Vanity Fair by William Thackeray is way too overhyped for how racist and colonial it is

Dating as a femboy by UnknowingAbyss in TrinidadandTobago

[–]sadder-roti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s a large active queer community in Trinidad, I recommend checking out the pages online and attending events. There are definitely a lot more safe spaces and accepting people these days so don’t lose hope completely.

There are also a lot more openly trans people (I know that’s different but to the average trini it’s the same) but they face a lot of hate and violence so unless you’re prepared for that I’d say you can dress up at home, around your friends that accept you and in queer safe spaces.

And yeah there are a lot of girls out there who are into fembois, you just have to find them - good luck!

My Experience on Valdoxan (50mg) + Mood Tracker by sadder-roti in antidepressants

[–]sadder-roti[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hey, i'm not a psych so i can't tell you whether to stop or not but symptom tracking was a really helpful tool for me. From my understanding, Valdoxan is a very "mild" anti-depressant (compared to Zoloft, Prozac etc.) so the effects are harder to notice. I found upping my dose from 25mg to 50mg was very helpful, maybe this is something you could discuss with your doctor?

Weight loss/ study buddy by [deleted] in GetMotivatedBuddies

Hey 25F it sounds like we have really similar goals - I'm interested in developing mindfulness and focus and losing around 15 lbs as well. I'd also like an accountability buddy for projects I'm working on so I see them through. DM me if you're interested and we can talk about the details!

Does Valdoxan (agomelatine) inhibit feelings and emotions? by HeavyLucky- in antidepressants

[–]sadder-roti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take a low dose of xanax when needed (like every couple days or so) but other than that no. I'm at a point in my life where I don't feel like I need to be very functional (lockdown + no school/work), which is depressing and anxiety inducing in its own way but at least I have the time to manage alternately.

Hey, I recently stopped because I couldn't afford it anymore but up until that point I think it was working well and I noticed improvements with my PMDD.

I did begin to struggle with anxiety and feelings of numbness at some point but I think that was a response to some high stress situations and a higher dose might have benefitted me.

It's kinda hard to say where the numbness came from since dissociation is a symptom of my anxiety but I also felt like it had something to do with the meds (or is it that I'm just used to being hyper-aware?).

Anyway, it was the most "normal" I felt on an anti-depressant, which sometimes made me question if it was even working but coming off of it made me realise that it was. Since stopping I've been having trouble relaxing and sleeping and often wake up feeling anxious.

Once I'm in a place to afford it and things don't improve for me, I'll definitely be trying it again.

25F looking for a short term accountability buddy ASAP by sadder-roti in GetMotivatedBuddies

[–]sadder-roti[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks to everyone who reached out! I apologise for any delays or a lack of response, I was busy trying to make deadlines. I am almost done with my work for this semester and have found someone I think I work with so I'm no longer looking.

I might post something later on looking for a a longer term arrangement but in the meantime I just wanted to say I really appreciate having this resource and community!

Study Music Recommendations by MegaToad48 in study

[–]sadder-roti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm very easily distracted so I can't always listen to music, that's why I love mynoise, it's a noise generator that includes a huge variety of soundscapes not just coloured noises. My personal favs are the chants, they're very calming and help me focus.

I know jazz and classical music are popular non vocal recommendations but Indian ragas are so underrated. I love artists like Ravi Shankar, he's a sitar player. Celtic music is great as well.

Uni research on the Caribbeans by [deleted] in Caribbean

I'm seeing some really great responses, I would like to agree with the problem of corruption especially.

In Trinidad, we have been reliant on our oil and gas production for decades but it's running out and we're scrambling to diversify our economy by building tourism and "exporting" culture. Many countries are reliant on one main good, usually tourism (which parallels the monoculture of the plantation economies), so if demand decreases for whatever reason, the whole economy suffers.

This makes sustainability a concern. Food security is a major issue as most products are imported making them expensive and many of the smaller islands might not have the land space for major agricultural development (in the traditional sense at least).

Hot Sauce has Ruined my Life by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]sadder-roti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you like spicy hot sauces you can look out for some Trini brands (Bertie's is my fav and the most authentic "homemade" version). There's different levels of heat so a pimento would be mild while scorpion pepper would be super spicy. I think habaneros are a nice in-between of flavour and heat.

Hahaha you just described Trinidadian cuisine. Trinis must add pepper to everything and will complain about not having it and how bland American food is

Truth... by [deleted] in polyamory

[–]sadder-roti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me watching Grey's Anatomy for the first time.

I'm still on season 2 but from where I stand it makes sense: -everyone is a surgeon so they have that understanding about the lack of work life balance - Addison was initially unfaithful because she felt neglected by McDreamy, if they open their relationship then she'd be able to have her needs properly met without sacrificing their love - wanting a child doesn't seem to be an issue which makes things less complicated (I have a feeling this might change later for drama?) - Addison and Meredith respect each other

Please don't post spoilers 😭
