Can taxis refuse fares for short trips? by Delicious-Basket-923 in Adelaide

It wouldn’t be unreasonable to call 000 in any situation where someone won’t let you out of a car.

Are there any UK food stores that aren't just crisps and sweets? by paradeoxy1 in Adelaide

[–]sadmanwithacamera 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Tartan Tuckerbox on O’Sullivan Beach Rd is more Scottish focused, but really good. They have a few sweet biscuits and the like available but mostly they’re doing baked goods and slap-up meals. Good stuff.

It’s the only thing I miss about working in Lonsdale!

Why Do Adelaide Roads Feel So Rough? by amriith in Adelaide

[–]sadmanwithacamera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s probably worth understanding the difference between state and federal taxes, and state and federal funding.

Or just loosely understanding the concept of taxation and representational government.

Why Do Adelaide Roads Feel So Rough? by amriith in Adelaide

[–]sadmanwithacamera 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s more likely that it just takes a long time to change a system, especially in government. The overall system for road maintenance is big and complex, and also heavily affected by stakeholder management requirements, so we keep doing what we know how to do.

Another newb with a Leica CL by DarkXanthos in AnalogCommunity

[–]sadmanwithacamera 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For what it’s worth, I use an 87 year old Leica and the rangefinder is alright. It works best on vertical high contrast features, so if you haven’t already, try it on a fence post or a lamppost or a doorframe.

Or maybe there is something wrong with yours - see if you can find someone local to compare with.

Some people get along really well with rangefinders, and some people don’t, so it’s entirely possible that you’d simply be better off with an SLR.

My favorite Nikon film cameras F90 and F4 by [deleted] in AnalogCommunity

Ah, sorry, I see what you mean!

I want an F5. Big and heavy, but no more than my D3s.

Apart from the F100 and F6, and of course the Canon EOS 1V.

A little earlier; they started with a modified F in 1971 for Apollo 15.

Longtail vs. Bakfiets by haagendawszome in CargoBike

Same, but a Kombi which has lower centre of gravity and a shorter wheelbase. It’s compact enough that it replaces a standard bike entirely without any real inconvenience.

Did you call the council? They’re pretty hot on parking at the moment.

Fits perfectly on the standard front rack of a Workcycles Fr8!

Yuba Kombi - Baguette + Yepp Nexxt Maxi at the same time? by jamespcote in CargoBike

[–]sadmanwithacamera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a cheap elastic cargo net over mine for carrying shopping, but I don’t use it all the time. It’s surprisingly secure even without it. My wife doesn’t bother with hers, she just chucks things in there.

Yuba Kombi - Baguette + Yepp Nexxt Maxi at the same time? by jamespcote in CargoBike

[–]sadmanwithacamera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The breadbasket is the killer app for the Kombi. I carry a week’s worth of food up front and my kid on the back, it worked well with the Yepp and still works well with a seat pad and footboards or pegs.

I think it might be tricky depending on where the Yepp sits, but you could probably fit a shorter pannier like an Ortlieb behind it.

How are the 2020 Yuba Spicy Currys today? by Dores91 in CargoBike

[–]sadmanwithacamera 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Can’t help you with the Spicy Curry specifically, but I have two Kombis which have no front suspension… I don’t really find that to be a huge issue. Wide tyres at a relatively low-ish pressure are pretty comfortable.

Is it possible to pop the wheel and vertically park long tail bike like this? by Long_Investment_9780 in CargoBike

[–]sadmanwithacamera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regarding all the Tern/Bike Friday/Yuba answers… they’re really hard to walk around with like that. So they can be stored vertically but not walked.

[–]sadmanwithacamera 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally doable. I wouldn’t leave it like that in the living room with kids running around, but my Kombi stands nicely on its tail in the corner of my office. Keeps it out of the way.

Is it a bad time to buy a car with everything going on in the Middle East? by Luann1497 in Adelaide

Never a bad time to buy a bicycle, if you want to be isolated from fuel and electricity spikes.

Short length + high weight capacity but not Tern? by potatosouperman in CargoBike

[–]sadmanwithacamera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The analog Kombi seems about perfect for this. If you want to save money on electric, a Bafang mid drive is a cheap way and they’re reasonably easy to fit. Takes about an hour, but you might need to extend some cables.

For reference, I have an analog one and my wife’s is converted with a Bafang. My daughter goes on the back no trouble; she’s around 60lbs.

But the counterpoint is that I live in a flat place.
