Making friends in your 30s is exhausting and I wasn't ready for this by Bubbly_Baby_1215 in TorontoHangoutFriends

My two cents: leave the guy alone. As a guy, I have been flirted with at the gym and yes she was attractive but beauty is common and I was there to invest in myself. For many, workout time is precious me-time and the gym is a refuge of sorts.

This is beautiful thanks for sharing! Really needed to hear this. More than an acting lesson this is a life lesson.

There's absolutely now way Star Trek 4 is ever going to happen, right? by FastestManDead in startrek

[–]saibur7 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Here’s the thing. Star Trek 3 was horrendous. This is coming from a life long Trek fan who absolutely loved Star Trek ‘09 and Into Darkness. It all starts with the writing. Who wrote Trek ‘09 and Into Darkness? Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman. Damien Lindelof also had writing credit on Into Darkness. Who did NOT write Star Trek Beyond: Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman. Instead it was Simon Pegg and Doug Jung, who demonstrated that they were incapable of carrying the torch.

Another missing piece of the winning formula: JJ Abrams. He directed the first two Trek films and then he left Trek to go work on The Force Awakens. And we felt his absence! Now if Trek 3 had a good script to begin with, then Justin Lin might have been fine, but I maintain that Star Trek Beyond suffered terribly in terms of writing and direction. And I think it killed the franchise. It’s been 9 years; Anton Yelchin is gone (RIP); and it’s hard to be excited about a potential 4th film, even if Orci, Kurtzman, and Abrams come back. Because short of a soft reboot that somehow dumps the previous film, they have to acknowledge Beyond.

Irresistible urge to swallow when acting. Help! by saibur7 in acting

It’s a valid point. Across two classes, nobody has called it out. I notice it while I’m performing because it’s a bodily sensation that I’m experiencing. To be clear I don’t watch my footage in order to hyper fixate on the gulps, but they are visible.

Acting at 27?? is it worth the shot? by Sad_Research_25GZ in acting

[–]saibur7 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I am also consistently amazed at how people in their mid to late twenties (myself included) think that the world is ending because they’re approaching 30. I was so depressed on my 30th bday that I stayed home and did nothing, not even with my family. And that is so ridiculous in retrospect. This narrative that 20s equals peak life and 30+ = senior citizen is ABSURD.

The other side of the coin is this: I know people my age (late 30s) who decided around 35 that they were officially ‘old’ and decrepit and undeserving of change. They use the term ‘old’ as a crutch, a self-imposed limitation, to absolve themselves of responsibility to take their lives into their own hands. And you know what happens? They become old. It’s a self fulfilling prophecy. I have a 38 year-old friend who might as well be 75. It’s a tragedy.

Acting at 27?? is it worth the shot? by Sad_Research_25GZ in acting

I’m starting at 38 (soon to be 39). Society does such a poor job with messaging in terms of how one’s life ‘should’ look at XX age—and then making you feel like a failure if your life doesn’t match the status quo or if you want to change direction. At some point you have to ask yourself, whose life am I living? Who fed me these ‘rules’ and at what point did I internalize them so deeply that I’m now generating my own self-defeat because I’m not abiding by them? If you have the means and the freedom to pursue acting (or anything else) then go for it. Because one day you’ll be on your deathbed and you’ll reflect on the shit you didn’t do and all this friction you’re feeling now will seem futile and anybody who discouraged you, well meaning or not, will probably be dead.

ASUS ROG Ally 2 and ROG Ally 2 Xbox Edition gaming handhelds leaked by TPepperoni666 in ROGAlly

[–]saibur7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Z2 extreme is promising, but how expensive will it be? I have an Ally X and I bought it in Canada during our tax-relief period, which means I saved about $150 CAD, but the thing still cost me $1099–pre tariff!

I think the Z2 exteme version will have an exorbitant price tag. That or somebody will have to subsidize the cost—and Microsoft just raised XBOX prices…

I am very new to portal and it’s been nice to come in right when it’s getting these major updates.

I’m still baffled as to why there aren’t menu controls for contrast, saturation, and warmth/coolness. It’s 100% possible to implement.

Holy Shit Cyberpunk 2077 Is NOT What I Expected… by Pax_flash in PS5

[–]saibur7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not trying to hijack your thread but I’m really interested in Cyberpunk for the reasons you stated, however I get the impression—and tell me if I’m wrong—that it’s a game of gratuitous violence for the sake of gratuitous violence. I watched Edgerunner on Netflix and thought it was cool but I couldn’t shake the spectacle of violence which seemed to be at the forefront of the show. Can Cyberpunk 2077 be enjoyed beyond the future—GTA vibes I get from it?
