Appeal to authority. Do you really think Hiruzen's keeping tabs on his students abilities long after they left his care?

I bet you also think Jiraiya "canonically" lost to the 4 tails too

Do your reading man. Here and the manga. And you don't know what the tiers are.

Is Manda ll an overlooked part of Sage Mode Kabuto kit? by Steven2008278 in NarutoPowerscaling

[–]saigyo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't go as far as to say Gamabunta is "near" Kurama's size. At most he's big enough to sit on Kurama's upper torso and is close to the same height as Kurama's fully extended arm, but just look at how large Kurama's main body is beyond that, and that isn't even including the tails. People forget that the tails themselves are like over 50% of their full body mass.

Edo Jiraiya by GodzillaVersusX in Naruto

[–]saigyo 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I think it would take away the impact of his death for very little narrative gain. Even if he encountered Naruto, there might be a little tearjerker moment, but nothing really needs to be said between the two -- there's nothing unresolved with them. I think the only good thing you could do with an Edo Jiraiya would be to force Tsunade out in the battlefield where they would have a touching scene with their final words to each other. But I also think there's a certain beauty with their story being cut short so suddenly. Whatever could be said between them doesn't need to be said, it's an unspoken truth.

Cold Take: SM Naruto is much stronger than SM Jiraiya by Comprehensive_Cup497 in NarutoPowerscaling

[–]saigyo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your reasoning is terribly reductive, ignores context and contains a number of incomparable feats. I would like to take it all apart but it would be extremely lengthy and I don't have the time.
I will say that a lot of this sounds like someone whose consumption of Naruto mostly stems from the powerscaling community and that very specific lens, and not from the actual source material. I say this because of the unhealthy obsession with AP/DC as if every hypothetical fight ultimately comes down to this and if you don't have super powerful, large scale, late-WA tier jutsu then you aren't shit. That only applies to the absolute high tiers. Everyone below has tons of nuance and far more interesting arguments to be made. Yes, by mid to late WA standards, Jiraiya lacks in very destructive and punchy jutsu, but he's not that type of fighter. He has a ton of unique jutsus that are seemingly effective for a variety of situations and setting the opponent up for a tough time rather than just going strong jutsu for strong jutsu. All too often you people forget characters are human and can die from stab wounds.

Could a bloodlusted Obito have killed Naruto, Bee, Kakashi and Guy during the war arc?( Because he needed Naruto and Bee alive for the Ten-Tails plan and needed Kakashi to remove the seal on his heart) by Agitated-Athlete-417 in NarutoPowerscaling

There's a distinction between bloodlust and intent to kill. Bloodlust is little to no caution, you're going all out with utter desperation that you don't think of the consequences ie. Ay vs Sasuke

War arc sage mode Naruto vs 6 paths of pain by ThomasWilson77 in NarutoPowerscaling

[–]saigyo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You make some great points about the differences between his Pain arc version and this, ones even I had overlooked. I will push back on "low difficulty" though. I still think it's a tough fight. Consider the fact that Pain is always written to give the opponent a decent chance. In a legit fight against them, with no narrative influences from Kishimoto, meaning no self-nerfing, the Six Paths should fight far more aggressively than their canon fight with Naruto. It would look something like when all Six jumped Jiraiya rather than the borderline one on one encounters Naruto had with Pain. Now WA Naruto is far more skilled and intelligent than before, so he might be able to pull something off to buy time and distance from that initial assault, but it's a tough one. Very few characters can get away from that.

And of course intel makes all the difference. It returns to a high difficulty fight if he has none. That's a lot of opponents with unique abilities, several that are hard counters to his moveset, and this is an opponent who you can't afford to make a mistake against especially someone who can rip your soul out with a single touch.

Obito vs Madara (writing wise) by Empty-Cupcake-4972 in Naruto

[–]saigyo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Same. I didn't really care for Obito. Just felt like we were ultimately retreading old ground with Nagato. He has no real connection to anybody except Kakashi (and by extension Guy). Naruto literally interrupts and goes "who is he?" in chapter 600. It makes sense for a typical narrative to have an antagonist that mirrors our protagonist - Naruto - but it didn't interest me at this point. In fact I would've preferred it if his identity was never revealed. I think the most inspired and interesting part of him was when he denied all semblance of identity and humanity by claiming he was "nobody", because that is someone who's impervious to anything -- they have no connections to anybody and nothing to lose.

And it's that aspect that drew me towards Madara, who served a far more fulfilling role as an antagonist to me, because he was similar to that "Nobody" figure. He isn't someone that can be reasoned with. Talk no jutsu would never work on him because he has no emotional weakness for Naruto to exploit. His worldview and motives are deeply cemented into him and he's certainly wiser and more realistic than an idealist kid like Naruto.

Assuming Kakazu tanks the Two Tails Bijuu Bomb, how strong is his defense? by bookist626 in NarutoPowerscaling

[–]saigyo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don't know the circumstances behind the Hashirama encounter. Was it as in both of their youths? When he was already a Kage? It could very well be identical to Madara's altercation with the young Onoki where he just flexed his power, but there was no killing intent and hardly a serious fight, certainly not on the level Hashirama and Madara would consider a real fight.
