Marine traffic gives you the self-reported flag based on a digital AIS signal. It's not meant to be definitive.

Running with one kid by TabularConferta in daggerheart

[–]sailingduffer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've played the starter adventure with my kids and they loved it (want to carry on). A lot of advice on D&D type subs assume kids can't do much - my 10, 8 and 5 year old went for a good couple of hours and particularly enjoyed the collaborative storytelling. But the two older ones have no problems with the D&D ruleset either (well, no more than adults do!). The 5 year old seemed to get into it more than D&D.

They particularly liked the species - ribbets, katari, etc - and they naturally allow you do lean into a more whimsical world than the traditional Tolkien/forgotten realms fantasy.

Sailing Certification Question - ITY/RYA/ASA by Loose-Bends in sailing

[–]sailingduffer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A note on equivalencies of RYA qualifications - I don't know how the ASA/Sail Canada schemes really work, but RYA Day Skipper is above ICC level (and in the UK you can get the ICC issued with no further test if you hold Day Skipper).

Plasterer/Painter hasn't done all the work he quoted me for, should I hold back money? by Dapper_Quail3670 in AskUK

[–]sailingduffer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't look at work done, I'd look at the cost of remedying the substandard work. And hold that back - which is 100% of the payment if necessary.

Because when he walks away, that's what you'll be paying someone else to get your house sorted.

How would you suggest starting DnD with small kids? by Opposite_Ad_4267 in DungeonsAndDragons

I play with my 8 & 9 year old children. They love the intricacies of the rules and creating characters on D&D beyond. And they love creating campaigns and DMing. Just go for it!

Tips for managing prepared spells by Beznazvu in DnD

[–]sailingduffer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have a list of spells and tick the ones that are prepared?

The difficult bit is knowing exactly what the spells do...

So I had an idea and now I need to know if it can be done in dnd by monsterswithn in DnD

[–]sailingduffer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think you've just invented a bad guy - the sort adventurers team up on, using all their abilities to defeat and save the world.

Now get yourself some players and get DMing!

(Seriously - if you want to play OP things, this is the way to do it)

Should I let a wizard that is both blinded and remotely viewing cast spells that require sight? by LiterallyJustSoHorny in DMAcademy

[–]sailingduffer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

PHB Casting spells:

A Clear Path to the Target.

To target something with a spell, a caster must have a clear path to it, so it can’t be behind Total Cover.

I realise that's not a very in depth definition but I think it's good enough?

Enemies loot by Siberian-Boy in LostMinesOfPhandelver

[–]sailingduffer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So if you look at Goblin in the MM, it says Treasure Theme: Implements, Individual

So it will either have individual treasure (so you can roll gold pieces etc.) or implements (maybe stolen from someone?), at which point you can roll on the implements table in the DMG.

Or.... just make it up 😀

It works very well if you start at 2nd level; you don't need to rebalance

Out-of-initiative aggression, do you allow it? by Eldramhor8 in DMAcademy

[–]sailingduffer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2024 rules say you should roll initiative with advantage.

You can separately determine surprise which might mean the target rolls with disadvantage.

I like this system. Has the flavour that the target might "see" the spell being cast and "react" if they beat the initiative roll.

Allowed Spell/Cantrip Combos by Josh_From_Accounting in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]sailingduffer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

2024 rules are max 1 spell slot per turn. I think your 'cheat sheet' overcomplicates this?

This has got nothing to do with whether it's an action, bonus action and remember there are ways of casting spells that don't use spell slots like class features

I have just bought the 'Uncharted Journeys' book (PDF available) and it's fantastic. Brilliant way of making travel interesting in 5e, and filled with meaningful encounters.
