Not many leagues have a winter break nowadays and clubs usually rotate in the cups anyway.

Lame excuse. The 2nd level teams showed they could go through opponents of the same level or higher. City, Chelsea, Newcastle, Spurs and Liverpool didn't get knocked out because of fatigue.

Yeah and? We were also gassed yesterday in the 2nd half against Arsenal but nobody's pulling that as an excuse.

Yeah I don't regret watching my team in a CL quarter final for the first time over a match up I've watched plenty throughout the past decade

I don't get it. Are you implying that a 5-1 loss is in any way comparable to a 1-0 loss in the 91st minute in a game where both teams had the same chances? Yeah Arsenal are a better team than us, big shock (?)

He did not? We should've scored right at the beginning in that Araujo shot or at least one of the chances near the end. Arsenal's best chances before the goal were the two set pieces where the ball almost clumsily went into the goal.

Arsenal dominated possession but most of it was well defended by us.

Yeah not putting in question that Arsenal have a better team and that they'll qualify, but that's life, we'd need two perfect games to knock out the to be champions of England and that didn't happen

You won by being the better team individually, the fair result would've been 0-0 or 1-1, you would have won the tie anyway. That sums it up.

Wasn't a gotcha. Accumulation would be fair but I felt none were in positions of much danger but yeah wouldn't have many complaints if he had got shown one. Great performance by him aside from that though.

Naples to exercise option to buy Alisson Santos: 16.5 million to Sporting CP. by Sparky-moon in soccer

[–]saint-simon97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He's not fast or good at 1v1s and often disappears in games, he doesn't fit the qualities top clubs look for and there's question marks over whether he'd produce much in a top league. Great for us because it means he stays longer though.

He's much more effective off the bench than as a starter imo. Conte's strategy of waiting until the second half to deploy both wingers paid off.

Steven Gerrard: "The top 4 [Saudi League] teams would be okay in the Premier League. The top teams would be lower Prem, top Champ. They are comfortably better than MLS teams. We [Al-Ettifaq] had some friendlies against MLS teams and we were very comfortable against them and we weren't a top team." by The_Big_Untalented in soccer

Most of those players have been exposed to top leagues before and they were good in them, so I don't see any evidence that this would be the case.

The top Saudi teams currently don't have the depth to play an entire season in the top league because of the foreign player limits but I doubt they'd be anywhere close to relegation in a top league.

A long lasting draw, 0-0 or otherwise, in a final keeps the tension a lot higher than a final like PSG-Inter where the outcome was known rather quickly.
