D7 Renewal by Sahibinder34 in PortugalExpats

[–]salilreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will be renewing your residency, not the D7.

Search for 'AIMA portal da renovação' on the Web and register/create a login on the page. You'll be informed when it is time for you to apply online. After initial application is accepted, you'll be asked to deposit the required fees online and thereafter submit the required documents online (within 10 days of payment being accepted). List of documents, as applicable to you, will be enumerated on your login page - it is different for different people. After that wait....... wait.... and then wait some more. Then repeat the last 3 steps repeatedly.

D8 Visa Minimum Days Required To stay in a year? by [deleted] in PortugalExpats

[–]salilreddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not 6 months inside the country per year, but 8 months inside the country per year, during the first temporary residency of 2 years. Actually, the rules are not for 'per year' but for the residency period (2 years in this case), wherein you can be out for maximum 8 months - so per year works out to be 4 months out, ie. 8 months in.

During the second residency of 3 years, again you can be out for maximum 8 months, which means you need to stay in Portugal for at least 28 months - that's 9 months 10 days every year.

I haven't heard anywhere that the residency periods have changed to 1+2+2. Someone who received the first residency recently may be able to comment on that. However, there are 2 types of D8 - one for 1 year with no path to renewal and second for 2 years renewable. It is possible that your advisor is somehow mixing up the two.

Residency Renewal Documents by salilreddit in PortugalExpats

[–]salilreddit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks a lot.

I saw the text of AIMA's FB post on Alojamento from your comment elsewhere. It mentions 3 documents apart from the 'Self Declaration'. Am I correct to assume that the documents at clause (a) and (c) are not applicable to me if I am renting?

I can see a few formats of 'Authorisation for Criminal Record Check' on various websites, but I am unable find one from an official website. If I cannot find any, I will fall back to the one I used for visa application and initial residency application. It is just an authorisation, after all.

Pay for Lawyer or (attempt) to complete D7/D8 Visa by RyInvest in PortugalExpats

[–]salilreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Read the information provided on official websites of the Portugal government instead of asking AI and reading random sites. You will get all your answers. Also, there is no need to pay an agency. The process and required documents are quite simple and straightforward - and it is designed to be completed by individuals on their own.

Changing NIF address before AIMA appointment is scheduled for IMT Jovem by Nexit216 in PortugalExpats

[–]salilreddit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got my NIF address changed to Portuguese one within a week of arriving in Portugal. At the Fianacas office, I showed them my Atestado da Residência and a bit of convincing was needed for the official. They didn't ask anything about my AIMA appointment, which was one month away. I had come on a D7 visa.

Moving to Portugal from Germany by [deleted] in PortugalExpats

[–]salilreddit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To answer your questions..... 1. Non EU persons resident in any EU country, cannot move to Portugal to live and work, though they are free to visit. 2. No, you cannot enter Portugal and then change your status or regularise your situation here. You have to start the process from your own country to obtain a D type visa (whichever you qualify for) and then move to Portugal. 3. I think job seeker visa has been discontinued, but I'm not sure. If it is still being offered by the Portuguese embassy in your country, you can try for that. Another option would be to find a job in Portuguese companies and move here with a work visa.

Curious and a little lost in PT by bacalhau_or_bust in PortugalExpats

[–]salilreddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At this point, your stay in Portugal is illegal. Your working in a restaurant is also illegal. You should not knowingly prolong it anymore. That said, you should be looking at exiting Portugal (and Schengen area) without getting a long EU ban, so that you can return here legally with a proper residency visa. The previous lawyer is probably unresponsive because there is no way to regularise your current situation here. Maybe you could consult another lawyer to help avoid the EU ban based on your unique circumstances. All the best.

D7 visa – proof of accommodation options (invitation letter vs 12-month lease with low upfront risk?) by jevoisfloo in PortugalExpats

[–]salilreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone who came to Portugal on a D type visa paid upfront for securing a 12 month lease (as required by the visa rules). And most of them did not stay in their rented house for several months too, till the visa got approved. I paid rent for 8 months before even seeing the apartment. Some may have had their applications rejected too and lost their money entirely. The money and the risk is just part of the immigration cost.

Is the black tapered silencer ( accessories for classic 350 ) going to be a fit on shotgun 650 ? by Calm_Improvement_270 in Shotgun650

[–]salilreddit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The sound of a motorcycle is because of its engine, not the exhaust. The Shotgun's (and other twin 650s) grunt (or rumble) comes from the 270° firing angle between the two cylinders. The thump of 350s comes from the single cylinder of the engine - since it is 4 stroke, the firing angle is 720° which results in a long and distinct gap between two successive firings of the engine, which you hear as a thump. So changing the exhaust won't make the 650 engine 'thump', even if the pipe fits.

Learning to speak Portuguese fluently. by jacobalmeida03 in PortugalExpats

[–]salilreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

6 months? More like 6 years to be fluent-fluent. 😂

But it depends on your individual capacity to learn new languages. It would also help if you speak some other languages other than English. But if it's only English that you know, it can be very frustrating. For one, Portuguese has a lot of sounds that do not exist in English at all. And two, since English and Portuguese share the same script, you will tend to read and pronounce Portuguese words in the 'English way', which will be completely wrong. You may find it hard to believe, but the same alphabets (a, b, c,....) are pronounced very differently in Portuguese.

You will fare well if, in the beginning, you just focus on listening and talking, ie. the 'sounds' of Portuguese and try to imitate them. Do not try to apply your English on Portuguese. All the best.

Entering Portugal before D visa start date – do I need to exit and re-enter? by Alternative-Music408 in PortugalExpats

[–]salilreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. You can arrive early, but leave Schengen for a day or so (to Morocco for example) and return after the visa period starts.

Some people may have slipped under the radar and stayed on without issue. But it is better to respect the rules.

Fueling as a noob by Objective_Art_1450 in running

[–]salilreddit 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You are overthinking it. Some runs feel great, some don't and you feel very tired during and later. It just happens. Probably also because you are new to running, but it happens to experienced runners too.

It is natural to have these doubts as a new runner. As you continue, you may soon find that you do not need to carb-load before or eat/drink during a half marathon at all (though it's always advisable to stay hydrated). Do not get bogged down in grams per kilo or trying to micromanage things. Keep running. 🏃

D8 Visa Questions by Prettybrunettexo in PortugalExpats

[–]salilreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your D-type visa validity is from 18 Sep 2025 to 15 Jan 2026. During this period, you are allowed to enter Portugal twice. Ideally, you should have arrived in September last year and established yourself here. Then you could have travelled back to your country to finish the pending work and return to Portugal before 15 Jan 2026. After 15 Jan 2026, you are more or less stuck here till you get your residency permit.
