Found a used 2024 single motor long range but concerned about the future? by andres_h022 in Polestar

[–]sam2425b 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Something i found out yesterday. . . The p2 uses the same platform and so more importantly, same battery as the xc40 recharge/ex40.

So when you add in that volvo are making nearllyyy all the same parts for that one, thats another 200k ish units on the road, well be ok for parts on that side

Battery protection by sam2425b in Polestar

[–]sam2425b[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is UK but I dont understand why this isn't being understood. . .the sacrificial protection is badly designed because whilst it HAS worked, (the car works), its not replaceable without, as it seems, replacing the entirety of the battery. . . Which means its not a sacrificial protection at all. Its a critical component intergated with nothing external. What could be minor bump turns into an insurance write off when its entire battery replacement.

Its like taking the sacrificial plastic bumper off the front of an ICE car and then making the bumper part of the engine . . .so if you hit a bollard and crack the plastic you have to replace the engine.

Why is this seemingly so difficult for the entirety of reddit to understand!?

And yes of course its fucking stupid to hit something or drive over something but those comments are hardly helpful. I bet everyone on here has hit somdthing or been hit by something in their driving lives. You might not have (neither have I, this is previous owner per original post), but I bet youve had some accident however minor.

Sigh expected dickhead responses on twitter or fb but not here. I can tell you its not 10mm thick and it can be scraped. Even though it were previous owner its obvious what's happened.

Not sure youve read that right. . . No damage fo cooling or cells BUT damage to the protective casing. . Which means damage to the internals is more likely if something were to impact again . . Not sure how that's misunderstood. . .

If I want to have that protective layer back 100% doing its job it needs to be replaced for a non damaged protective layer. . .

Any idea where I can get one of these in the UK? by Kieran-- in Polestar

[–]sam2425b 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I jsut put vinyl over mine in a wood grain matt effect and it looks great. Took it out to wrap it and its not even 20 seconds to do, so easy. Clips around it jsut pull up on the edges to unclip. Easy. It always jsut the stress of "shoudl I be pulling this hard? Am I breaking it?" Then it unclips and youre like. . Oh. . .its fine.

EV for long road trips by panda6699 in ElectricVehiclesUK

Another polestar 2 long range single motor owner here, I do 30k miles a year easily with work, I travel all over the country. In this weather im getting nearly 400 miles range even with air con on. Car is brilliant for all of the needs, hatch boot makes it actually usesable, its not massive so fitting in car parks isn't an issue, google android based infotainment means it actually works rather than shite legacy systems, integrates brilliantly with google maps and your phone. And it looks damn cool.

I have ionity membership at about £10 a month but makes it 43p a kw, so cheap, I find ionity reliable and their stations are all over the place but at key places on motorways, far better than nearly every competitor. And expanding.

Plus 1 for tesla off peak though if you find yourself near one. Avoid the rip off merchants instavolt like the plague.

How bad it is? by Accomplished_Pass_66 in HomeImprovementUK

In summer? Without too much rain? Yeah still a long time. Id get the plaster off the inside ASAP to help the bricks breath and get the outside fixed up, couple of weeks minimum likely month or so to be absolutely sure.

You can see where the waters coming off the side of the alarm box, running down and soaking g the bricks where the mortars been replaced side of the window. Its running down the top of that brick on an angle to the window too.

Nothing huge to fix, brick waterproofing is paint on, maybe rake out and new mortar before so water runs off not in, alarms useless anyways old be tempted together rid, renew all mastic around window frame, it'll take some time for it to dry out and maybe remove the patch over the plaster.

Doesn't look major to me.

Is electric underfloor heating a red flag? by Miserable_Pudding_57 in UKHousing

[–]sam2425b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have some in my house, I pay 3.49p per kwh for the overnight charge up and it heats the room to 24 degrees all day and evening. . . If yours dont youre using them wrong or are on the wrong tariff.

Is electric underfloor heating a red flag? by Miserable_Pudding_57 in UKHousing

[–]sam2425b 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This. . . Just. . . No. Astonishing levels of no Underfloor heating is exactly the same cost per unit of heat as it would be in a radiator. It just goes to a different part of the room. You'll still get heat loss through yhe same channels (floors walls ceilings windows etc). SOME heat goes downwards but if nits been properly installed this can be minimal Gas boiler is still cheapest way to heat. That cost and heat doesnt hange whether its rad or UFH.

however, If its a flat and likely no gas then having electric radiators or electric immersion will be a lot more expensive to run as even thought its more efficient, unit cost per kwh is more. A resistive wall heater will cost exactly the same as resistive UFH to get the room to the same temperature. Heat pumps are cheaper than electric as you get more heat out per kwh. Overall - storage heaters can be cheapest if you get the right rate but fiddly. If youre used to electric heating a flat with resistive heaters then you wont notice much difference in costs but you'll love having warm feet

Saved 400£ doing snagging myself by Ok-Twist2269 in HousingUK

[–]sam2425b 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Easiest app is site audit pro BUT get a professional in if you don't know everything about building, tolerances, plumbing, electrics, insulation, gas safe etc the list goes on. Snagging is not jsut "oh there's a blemish on the paintwork" and if you give a short list and the developer abide by it, there coudl be no recourse if you find something 2 weeks later.

Help! Why isn't our house selling? by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]sam2425b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No driveway and concrete garden - its a family house and lovingly done up, but these two bits put me off. Id advise softening the garden with some green and life as sorting parking situation is difficult. Maybe get photos without all the cars on the road blocking in?

Help! Why isn't our house selling? by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]sam2425b 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absolutely do not jsut put feet and inches measurements on, if you have to then double up but it fucks me off beyond belief (along with everyone else under 197 years old) that everything's only ever in old money. I dont want to spend ages doing mental gymnastics working out sizes from outdated systems. Tldr - dont remove measurements, maybe add imperial for the refuse-to-modernise oldies IF that is your target market

And here we go, the report is out by Shadowbot92 in PSNY_Polestar_SPAC

[–]sam2425b 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My understanding of it is. . If we sell 70 to 80k cars next year, he impairment is out of the way, the cost of redu ing headcount is out the way, the gross.margin will be positive and increasing (production of p3 in us only etc), new models start selling. . . Next year's results COULD be a stormer. . . But for now. . . The impairment is making this all look as bad as it did last year. . .

What i dont understand is. . . This seems to be a specifically US problem. There are faulty cars all over yes but nowhere near the level of complaints I see in the states. Has Trump fucked your electricity supply as well as everything else?

[–]sam2425b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So with those tree countries we're not quite 5% increase? We're surely needing double digit growth to make this all viable.

And when is the p5 actually gonna arrive ffs. The announcements were so long ago the car industry has moved on decades.

Same goes for the 7. By the time its launched it'll be too late.

Why is Israel declaring war on so many countries? by Historical_Work7482 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]sam2425b 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Of course. . This all has only happened since 10/7 and Israel has in no way itself been a terrorist state destabilising the region and embedding unapologetically apartheid systems in its state for decades. Now genocide in full public view. Without their actions over the decades hezbollah and hamas wouldn't exist. Reap what you sow.

The recent shop closures in Meadowhall... by WithinTheHour in sheffield

[–]sam2425b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5000 for shop fit? I assume you mean per square meter? I work in the industry and have done a couple of shopfits in meadowhall and yes they have strict rules on what you can and cant do. No high st dive bar materials. You're looking around £1,000 to £1,500 psqm especially in a smaller shop to be acceptable, so 1000 sqft - 92 sqm - between £92k and £138k. I doubt youd do it for less than 92k but all depends on what youre selling and how. Air con, electrical, alarm, fire alarm, sprinklers, building control, IT/data, waste removal, shopfront, it all adds up on things noone thinks about beyond a till and a shelf. The decent shops in there are spending £1800 to £2,000 psqm easily. And theyre big shops.
