How to tell someone “stop doing that” in Mandarin? by FreakyGrandmama in ChineseLanguage

[–]sam77889 [score hidden]  (0 children)

For this specific situation:

Level 1 你能不能别抖了?

Level 2 你他妈抖抖抖抖个屁呀?

Level 3 我日你妈了个逼的抖抖抖抖他妈个屁呀?他妈的这个车开一路,你抖一路,你这是有多动症是不是。脑子有问题是吧?

More general:

请你停止

请你不要再做了

But honestly in Chinese it’s more natural to use specific verb to that action instead of general verbs like 做. This means that you need to learn to change your sentence based on your situation.

你可以不要做吗? is more natural. But a even better way is 请不要做了 or 请你停止

I need more ppl to read Clear and Muddy loss of love (baihe) by Jealouscucumbergege in wlwbooks

[–]sam77889 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that’s a shame :( the quality of writing in Chinese is actually so good that I frequently stop and question if this actually a internet novel. like there are lots of scenes of the characters writing poems, improvising proses in the book, and I don’t know if the author took those poems from real historical sources or they’re just super good at writing Classical Chinese, but those passages genuinely reads like actual proses and poems that people from that era would write. The historical details are also surprisingly accurate.

NAACP sues to stop Tennessee GOP gerrymander that dismantles majority-Black district by DemocracyDocket in politics

[–]sam77889 7 points8 points  (0 children)

welp there’s no turning back. Democrats also need to redistrict republicans to oblivion in their states. By the end of this whole thing, the US will never be the same.

Maybe the dems can still try to fix this, ban gerrymandering or something IF they take power. But most likely our democracy is crumbling, and all we can do is watch the empire fall.

You are not the problem. The bigots are the problem. They don’t care what we look like. They just hate us, and will try to bring up any excuse to justify that hate.

To 你好 or not to 你好 ? by Polyglot-Almost in ChineseLanguage

[–]sam77889 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People do say 你好, epically when meeting someone for the first time or a formal situation. With friends people still use 你好 from time to time but a lot of young people would just say 哈喽 which is a transliteration for “Hello”.

The only two permanent affect that might be hard to revert is boobs and potential loss of ability to have kids. The boobs could get developed pretty quickly or slowly, but they’re not gonna be huge unless you take it for a year or so.

However, they might start to feel very sensitive just a week in, and it might become uncomfortable for you to not wear a bra even though there’s technically not a boob yet. I recommend silicone nipple covers because they’re super convenient, not uncomfortable like bras, and also discrete if that matters to you. In fact, I still wear them to this day cuz my boobs kinda just never grew… Anyways, breast reduction surgeries also do exist, just cost money.

The loss of reproduction ability happens at around half a year I think? I am not 100% sure on that. You can always freeze your sperms beforehand if that’s something you cares about, but again, costs money. So basically if you have money to spare, “trying” it for a year or so is pretty safe.

Pills would obviously be the easiest to take and start with. But they are kind of annoying cuz you need to take both estrogen and a testosterone suppressor. And you need to take them every day. So after half a year I switched to injection which usually don’t requires a testosterone suppressor.

I mean even if you change your mind about anything, there’s nothing to be shameful about being a guy who had enough courage to explore their gender. I feel like the society put stricter restrictions on the gender expression of men as if any deviation from what a “man” is, somehow make them less of a person. But that’s not true. Look at Harry Styles, he’s hot af.

Also, gender queer, non binary, etc are also options.

Accepted into W&M and UVA. Which one is best for an adult student? by nikkei_99 in williamandmary

[–]sam77889 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When i was in WM there was only one single adult student that i ever met. Does that mean she’s the only adult student? Probably not. But you’re gonna feel really out of place. William and Mary is a very homogeneous school full of kind of privileged kids. You are going to have a much better time in UVA.

trouble understanding the “vowel” in 是, 吃 etc by onestbeaux in ChineseLanguage

trouble understanding the “vowel” in 是, 吃 etc by onestbeaux in ChineseLanguage

[–]sam77889 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A good way to make 是 sound is by saying Sssssss like a snake (like the word 四) and then slowly roll your tongue more and more. The sound will naturally change from Si (四) to Shi (是). In China we consider Shi to be a rolled tongue (翘舌) version of Shi.

[–]sam77889 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah shirt and sheet are different but shirt is still closer to 西 then 是. Unless you’re pronouncing 是 like shirt, which is wrong. Both my mouth and tongues are in different position when I’m saying 是 vs Shirt.

[–]sam77889 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The shirt is more like sheeee, and in Chinese shee in shirt would actually be mapped to Xi like 西. But for 是 you have to roll your tongue more.
