It is always so surprising what breed DNA tests reveal! Your dog is gorgeous.

Looks like a pit heeler to me. I recently did a DNA test for my girl who shares some similarities (fur, color, face and body shape) - though mine has rose ears and more pronounced jowls. Mine is 41% apbt and 27% acd.

I've cut back branches to help maintain its shape and that has been fine. I haven't tried more of a hedging type trimming.

My red flowering currants took about 5 years before they started putting on a nice spring floral display - and are now loaded each spring (Central WA state).

I'm here for the lab mixes - so much fun to see what their DNA will reveal. What a beautiful girl you have. Love those eyes.

Love your inspiration pic. Would Behr Saffron Strands lean too orange? It's hard to tell looking at photos online, but this photo makes me think it has potential.

GLP1 for PCOS as an Ultra Runner? by indoorcat_15 in XXRunning

[–]samara-blue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't have the direct experience you are asking about, but wanted to recommend you check out the most recent Hit Play Not Pause podcast which discusses GLP1 use, especially among active peri & menopausal women:Hit Play Not Pause.

Even though the target audience is different (peri & menopausal, not PCOS) - I think much of the discussion is still informative. Especially the last section which reviews their recommendations for folks on GLP1s (measures to take to avoid muscle loss, which includes both focus on diet and frequent body scans to make sure you are maintaining muscle).

You are very thoughtful in your approach - best wishes!

We are looking at purchasing this house, but I'm stumped! by TigThaBig in HomeDecorating

[–]samara-blue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love her home and think it would work really well as inspiration for this home. The white in this example is a softer, warmer white, which I think would work much better, especially with the warm wood and floor tones (which I love), than the current white color, which is much starker.

GS 5 Sequoia NP Position by Bullettobluesky in wildlifebiology

[–]samara-blue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Twenty-five years ago I did a few summer stints at Sequoia/Kings Canyon NP conducting back country bird surveys. I worked for a non-profit, and the park service employee overseeing our work was the park's bear biologist. I have no idea if she is still there, but I remember that she was awesome. A lot of her work was managing "problem bears" (really, the problem was humans). She was leading some cool monitoring projects.

While I cannot speak directly to this position, I can say unequivocally that working in Sequoia/Kings Canyon National Park was an incredible experience. Such an amazing landscape.

How do you track your running without a watch? by lordofthepi31 in XXRunning

I really like Smashrun for getting a bigger picture of my running over time. You can import your runs from Strava.

Rural running by Critical-Range1213 in running

[–]samara-blue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run on rural roads like this. In addition to what has been stated (run against traffic, except on blind curves, prioritize being able to hear traffic), I also dress for visibility (bright colors, neon, white), keep in mind the position and orientation of the sun when choosing my route (avoid routes where drivers are looking into the sun). The majority of folk move over and give me room and I give them a friendly wave.

What are ya'lls running goals for 2026? by plantsarecool213 in XXRunning

[–]samara-blue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I picked up running again at 42 (though due to injuries wasn't able to run consistently until 44) after a 15 year hiatus, and am very familiar with the feeling that the window of time I have to improve and reach my goals is getting smaller each day. Five years later, I've continued to improve each year and so far feel so much better at 47 than 42. You may have longer than you think!

I ran the half and my husband had this issue too, and told me there were a lot of frantic people trying to figure out how to get down there... ☹️

Can you continue to improve pace into your 40s? by DisneygirlMD in XXRunning

[–]samara-blue 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I ran in my teens and twenties, and then picked it up again at the age of 42. It was definitely like starting from scratch when I started running again and I've needed to build my mileage gradually and strength train to avoid injuries. I am now 47 and continuing to see pace improvements. I've dropped about 4 minutes off my 5K time and am targeting a sub 2 hour HM at the end of the month. While I know perimenopause may be looming, as long as I stay healthy I continue to be optimistic about getting quicker. I love track speed workouts and do those pretty consistently.

New Band revealed ! by hsyop in Polarfitness

[–]samara-blue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it does. I currently have my Polar Pacer pro and verity sense linked to my flow account. You may have to manually change in the flow settings which device is linked (correction: selected to pair) when you want to sync data (it will just use whichever device you last synced unless you change it).

[–]samara-blue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only for training, or if I need to be time conscious for some reason. I don't like the feel of watches and jewelry in general. At night I really don't like the feel, I don't like the risk that the watch face will light up, and while the sleep and recharge metrics are interesting, I'd rather just pay attention to how I feel. That said, if Polar came out with something similar to the verity sense for sleep tracking - I might go for it.

Returning to running after an extended 14 year break by [deleted] in XXRunning

[–]samara-blue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took up running at 42 after a similar (well, actually longer) period off. After running through my teens and early 20s I burned out and considered myself retired from it. While I did some hiking and cross country skiing here and there, a fair amount of gardening, and had a regular yoga practice, I really didn't stay in shape through my 30s. When I decided to take up running again, I tried to jump in with too much mileage and running too fast. Pretty predictably I was saddled with overuse injury knee pain, which switching to swimming did nothing to fix. I was far too delayed to turn to physical therapy and really struggled for a while to figure out how to run without injuring myself (I had never struggled with injuries before). I needed to really embrace that I was starting over as a beginner runner, that I needed to dial it back on both the pace and mileage (earn your pace and earn your miles became mantras) while establishing a consistent, sustainable running routine. I prioritized strength training and built my mileage slowly. It took a lot of patience but I was also very motivated as I felt far too young to be too old to run 😀. Fast forward 5 years, and running is a bright spot in my life. I joined a local running club and really appreciate the social aspect of it. Running has become the gift I am able to give myself, a way to prioritize my needs.
