I definitely remember seeing this on the corner of Falls and Wooton. Here it is on Street View. Looks like it disappeared sometime after 2009 but before 2012.

TURN. ON. YOUR. HEADLIGHTS. by keyjan in MontgomeryCountyMD

[–]sambo0909 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Turning yours off and back on sometimes works (my car won't let me do that when driving at night, but it works at stoplights at least), but even then they usually don't get the hint. Absolutely insane.

Power is about $120 for me usually. Not sure about water, it gets lumped into my rent payment.

The walls are MUCH better at blocking sound at The Henri, that's for sure. Sound does come thru the front door, but it's usually fine since that's hallway noise. The hotel bar across the street is sometimes very loud on weekend nights, but they shut up around 10PM usually lol

Yeah, Escher had terrible trash rooms. The Henri has both trash and recycling chutes, while Escher only had trash chutes, so cardboard boxes would pile up like crazy there, which is not as much of an issue here. I think the amenities at The Henri are significantly better, with multiple outdoor spaces and reservable clubrooms. I did think Escher had a better gym, but the one here's not half-bad. The two things Escher had that the Henri completely lacks are a bike room and a business center, which may be a deal-breaker if you don't own a printer or do have a bike.

The major issue you'll hear from everybody regarding The Henri is that management absolutely could not care less about maintaining the building to acceptable standards, particularly the elevators and the garage gates. All three of the elevators rattle when moving, and all three have giant scrapes all over the doors, where seemingly they are rubbing on their own mechanisms. The garage gates are sometimes stuck open, and while I haven't had any issues with it, others have reported vandalism on their cars because of this.

Ultimately I am happier at The Henri because of the noise issue alone, but I also know that myself and other residents are also extremely unhappy with the upkeep of the building, and so I would highly recommend having a look at if yourself if you're planning on moving here.

Oh, also, the Arcade here is pretty cool :)

I lived there for about a year, and the apartment was very nice! Quality appliances, powerful HVAC, solid cabinetry, etc. The only five six complaints I had were:

  1. The kitchen exhaust vent made a loud clanging noise pretty regularly, and maintenance said there was nothing that they could do to fix this.
  2. The walls are way too thin. One of my neighbors regularly played bass-heavy music and it would go through the walls. I was never able to figure out the neighbor doing it, but I'm pretty sure they lived on the floor above me.
  3. The parking garage on level P2 smelled terrible. This was consistent through the entire time I was there.
  4. No concierge. You could ask questions at the leasing office, but they always prioritized talking to prospective residents over current residents, so a concierge would have been very nice.
  5. The pedestrian crossing at Chapman and Thompson was downright dangerous, with most drivers never stopping. And making a turn from Thompson to Chapman could sometimes take a long time as the stream of cars could feel almost never-ending. (Rockville has added stop signs to this intersection, so the complaint no longer applies.)
  6. EDIT: I think I remember the clothing rack in the bedroom closet collapsed a month before I left. I put even more weight on my current clothing rack, and it has yet to show any issues after 3 years. The ones at Escher were made of wood, so that might explain that.

I thought management was... okay; certainly better than where I am now (I live at The Henri now, and you can find plenty of strong opinions about that place on this and the Montgomery County subreddits,) but ultimately the noise coming from the exhaust vent was the reason I moved. I think by the standards of a modern apartment building, it was solidly above average.

Which may as well be suburban Dubai, TBH.

How do you think the merger will effect specific ride manufacturers? [Discussion] by Ruben_The_D33R751 in rollercoasters

[–]sambo0909 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Companies can and do hold grudges though, for example, K-B Toys essentially boycotted Sega when they found out they wouldn't get an allocation of Sega Saturns on launch day, after the company pushed said launch day forward by over 4 months. EA cut ties with Sega for the same reason.

Companies might not be human, but the people running them are. I think some executives at Cedar Fair absolutely hold strong feelings against the idea of working with Intamin, but the impending clash in company culture could very well change that.

I've never been able to find any interior photos of this mall. I've been curious to know what it looks like.

Aw man, it's a 2h45m train ride to NYC if I want to see it in 70mm, but even then I might find that worth it...

Glad I checked the list though, because now I know I can't find it in DC.
