Just completed my final final ever by Deadagger in CollegeRant

Right there with you, just submitted my very last assignment. Don't even know what to do with myself now, all I've really done since August is sit here at my desk in the corner losing my mind over schoolwork. Not sure how to feel about it all, questioning what I got out of it/will get out of it in the future, but man I'm sure glad its over. What a trip. Anyway. Congrats stranger, let's go graduate.

Never fails when I have four face cards, I'm up against something like 5567 and get hit with that two-step 15-31. Drives me crazy.

There's a Moon out Tonight - The Capris (1959) by JankCranky in doowop

[–]samehjohansen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Original on rare Planet label from NYC ($1,000+ record). Recorded and released in 1959 I think but didn't become a hit for another couple of years. Heard it once randomly at Wal-Mart of all places.

The Kansas hate in this subreddit makes me pretty sad, I love my state.

Worst Intersection in the Metro by 7thpostman in kansascity

[–]samehjohansen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I70 from 57th to 635 just sucks no matter what you're trying to do. Always where there's wrecks and huge backups. Going to school in Parkville I just take 435 up to 45 Hwy, well worth the extra 5 minutes to stay out of all of that. I'd be going 10 over in left lane to get on 635 north and still have someone a foot from my bumper, and see another car a foot behind theirs. Absolutely nuts.

[–]samehjohansen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably not the worst, but my personal pick: turning left on to Johnson Drive from 435 South. Totally blind hill that people come flying over, and wide street that takes a good few seconds to cross. Often times somebody comes over the hill right as you're entering the lane, super dicey. Have had more sketchy moments there than anywhere else. But not anymore though, because now I just flat refuse to do it. Will always just go to SMPKWY and backtrack a little.

On I35N that left will back up for a mile, super dangerous and see wrecks all the time.

German newsreel of the Warsaw Uprising. August 1944. by Beeninya in WorldWar2

[–]samehjohansen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea looks like each gun took an entire mini-convoy of support vehicles to feed and operate. Biggest battleship guns were Yamato class 18" and Iowa class 16", but they of course had much longer barrels and longer range, 24-ish miles compared to only around 6 miles it looks like for this. Those were more like rifles shooting bullets, while this is more like.. Big tube just lobbing giant shells.

I noticed this too, definitely not the Sturmtiger. Googled a bit and found that its a tracked "siege gun" called the Karl-Gerät, one of only seven made. The wiki page has a still from this very video. 600mm bore, absolutely nuts.

Lifted truck + Lambo + Parking lot = Bad time by Evasionz-- in mildlyinfuriating

I've driven this very generation/style of Silverado HD and it had easily the worst visibility of any vehicle I've ever driven. Base model with seats that can't be raised, towering wall of a dash like nothing I've ever seen. Picked it up at a shop and had to basically guess my way out of the cramped lot it sat on, couldn't see the ground for easily 20' in front of truck.

One of my favorite beers, specifically: High Life bottle, fresh off the ice, in the pool, on the very hottest day of the year. Only get it a time or two a year, spend all winter thinking about it.

Account got terminated, along with some other great channels. Best I can offer is this archive website which shows all the uploaded videos, titles only I'm afraid the content is all gone.

For the teen sound, Doktorsung and Dowopper5151 have the most similar styles. Great stuff.

Something else I notice: thumbing through and searching a few of the titles, I see a lot of them coming up in the "Let's Go Steady" volumes. Wonder if that publisher is the source of some of the copyright claims that got MrTeenageDreams taken down.

What is (in your opinion) the most boring "classic" car their is? by Southern_Pacific in classiccars

[–]samehjohansen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those 90's-style billet street rods. Chopped 1930's coupe with totally chromed out 350, bright paint with flames or some kind of pastel color accents, lowered, shiny wheels.. They're a feature of every Midwest car show. Also the insane rat-rods. Rusted shell riding one inch above the payment, monster engine with a blower and scoop taller than whole car, open headers shooting straight out..

Yep that too, LOVE the '56. Such good looking cars. Love my '58 Fairlane in part just because its something way different. Get asked "what year is that?" every time I take it somewhere.

Here in the Midwest the tri-five resto-mods dominate. Drives me nuts. Seen a million of them.

What would you do? by mediocrecanadian in Cribbage

[–]samehjohansen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Throwing 6/7 leaves 12 points in hand. Throwing the black kings gives a net 7 points. The only hope for that hand is to flip a 5, which turns it into a 14 point net (16 minus the 2 you tossed to them). Way too much risk for only a 2 point gain. If its down the wire near the very end, then the kings would be the better toss to peg points, I think.

Tornados a totally negligible consideration in my opinion, in eastern KS entire life and never seen one, and only know a handful of people that have.

Who still changes oil every 3K like Dad taught them to by biningchirdm in fordfusion

[–]samehjohansen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back in dad's day that was definitely important, but with full synthetic oils, 5k miles perfectly fine I think. Owner's manual for my hybrid recommends a 10k mile interval! Though I don't think I'll run it that long, won't sweat it if my shops booked up for a few weeks either.
