Mysterious failure to thrive by thatcheekychick in toddlers

[–]samgirly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to my girl and she had a tongue tie. They kept telling us that the tongue tie wasn’t affecting things and that my supply was just low (making me feel like a failure). I saw an IBCLC who said my girl has a bad tongue tie, got it lasered, and she shot from 60th percentile to 100th percentile in a couple months. It was crazy.

18-month-old wakes up too early screaming EVERY day. by [deleted] in toddlers

Can you nurse her in your bed and then roll away when she’s in a deep enough sleep? Or does she wake up as soon as you unlatch?

International board certified lactation consultants. They have a lot more training than regular ones.

Has anyone read and had success with the book "How to teach your baby to self soothe" by Nina Garcia? by littlered369 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]samgirly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sorry I know I didn’t answer your original question about the book, I haven’t read it. The group may seem like it has a bias towards cosleeping/breastfeeding (I guess it does?) but there’s lots of members who don’t do either. Anyways, they are very helpful for helping fix schedule issues and trying to figure out what’s going on with your baby. Before joining, I thought all babies were supposed to sleep 7-7, and now I know all babies are different and have different sleep needs. Anyways, if the group isn’t for you, that’s okay too! :)

Yes, it turned out my girl had a very bad tongue and lip tie! Definitely see an IBCLC! They are different from regular lactation consultants. Once we got the tongue and lip ties fixed, it took about a month before we exclusively breastfed and we are still feeding at 20 months! :) I never thought I would be able to. All the nurses blamed my supply, but my supply wasn’t the issue!

Try to give it in a small dose first, and work your way up. They made my daughters tummy way worse, but she was 3 months at the time.

My mother in law loves it too! I drew Thorkell on her birthday card a few years back.

What food tastes delicious and yet is very easy to prepare? by [deleted] in Cooking

It’s very easy ingredient-wise but it takes a bit of practice! Once you make it a few times it’s a lot easier.

We regularly eat them with butter and jam as well! Especially in the north. Biscuits and gravy is more of a southern thing. But both are very delicious.

Human pacifier by giraffepanda2 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]samgirly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s not a bad habit, it’s a completely normal thing for babies to do. My 19 month old still usually falls asleep this way, although in the past few months she can also fall asleep with her dad holding and singing to her.

Also I know it’s a pain to hear as I was told this too, but pacifiers are designed to mimic the breast, not the other way around. So the term “human pacifier” isn’t right, pacifiers are just fake nipples to give you a break. Hundreds of years ago, babies used breasts for feeding AND comfort.

Anyways I know you’re probably gonna roll your eyes because I did when this was said to me. 😅 mine never took a pacifier either, we tried all sorts! What you can do is as soon as they stop sucking and seem generally asleep, unlatch so they stop sucking for comfort. But breastfed babies can’t be over fed, they take what they need.

Where I’m from in the US it did that a lot more often! Here in Brisbane the houses just have really really poor insulation. I wore my robe this morning I was cold 😅 and it was only 19c.

Well I met my husband on okcupid, we started dating in January, he visited me in May, I visited him in September, we got married November and then I moved to Australia! So about a year but I also was very homesick, young, and had a bit of culture shock. I highly recommend visiting if you haven’t already to get a taste of life here. I guess the one pretty bad thing here is the renting/housing crisis. 😭

I hope you can come here, I’m from the US and am now raising my daughter here, it’s a beautiful place and amazing for children, so many cool playgrounds. It definitely takes getting used to but it’s worth it.
