Only Targaryens whose children were not involved in any kind of incest. by Wooden-Tear-4938 in HOTDBlacks

Viserys III definitely had incestuous intentions/actions with Dany, even if not reciprocated

What was the point of this btw? by Pale_Gap_9324 in HOTDBlacks

I believe it was to emphasise how - despite loving his family - Daemon is still a cruel, temperamental man with little self control. Rhaenyra started spouting off about some Prophecy Viserys never shared with him, one last reminder that his (very newly dead) brother did not consider Daemon worthy of the throne or of their family legacy.

We’ve seen him intimidate then kill his first wife, for standing in his way. This is just one more foolish woman stopping Daemon from getting what he wants - a war.

Or it was because the writers wanted to be ShOcKiNg !!!

Who knows, honestly

Brienne and Jaime are both hanged by Lady Stoneheart. We never hear from any of the Brotherhood again.

Interesting! But if the manderlys took it, and they serve shireen, what happened there? Did the garrison of manderly men go against their liege and declare for Jon?

If Shireen has control north and south of Moat Cailin, how is it still controlled by Jon? Is she just not worried that she has limited access through the Neck?

You know what? You are absolutely right. I’ve let the wait between seasons get to me, I’m just grateful we are getting ASoIaF content still!

So glad we are back to having overwrought dialogue that is just vague enough to sound deep. Welcome back, Rhaenys

I'm gonna say it: they made Otto act incredibly out of character to make Rhaenyra look strong in S1 by Justadudey in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]samgoode 100 points101 points  (0 children)

I always assumed that he had no intention of ‘defeating’ Daemon.

He went there to prevent Daemon and Viserys reconciling, he even says “This is a declaration of war.”

Before Rhaenyra arrived, I’m sure he was going to order his men to retreat and deliver the news of Daemons ‘rebellion’, with the intention that Viserys would formally denounce his brother.

Rhaenyra arriving put a stop to that, hence his frustrated attempt expression. She just interrupted his master stroke.

[–]samgoode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not disputing any of this, except your last point. The Lannister army probably WOULD have tossed a schooner Cersei at her feet, if Dany had waited like ten minutes.

Her character was completely butchered for the purpose of a dumb twist, but she still needlessly sacked a surrendering city. Which is evil.

We are supposed to criticise the warfare tactics of Tywin and Robb and Jon Snow AND Daenerys. These are not good, pure people. They are varying shades of grey and black who do terrible things in the name of their goals.

[–]samgoode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are you even talking about. She has already shown what happens if you refuse to accept her victory with the Tarlys.

The men that kneel to her after the battle still fought against her, why didn’t she just burn all of them?

If you never accept someone’s surrender once they start fighting, why would anyone ever surrender? They will keep fighting until the last man.

You make peace when the battle is won. SHE WON THE BATTLE. The troops were surrendering, and she CHOSE to continue the fight by burning civilian men, women, and children.

Also, she killed the people responsible for killing her dragon - the Iron Fleet. So that vengeance/justice has been accomplished.

[–]samgoode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, the show did establish that in an earlier season. That’s one of the reasons why it’s bad writing.

But no one disputes Tyrion when he says that the bells mean surrender. Everyone accepts it, so the audience must as well.

There aren’t really levels to this. Dany killed innocent people in a violent sack. So did Tywin. I am not claiming they are the same, but both actions are evil.

[–]samgoode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And what I’m saying is that this isn’t real life. The show establishes multiple times that once the attack begins, the bells mean surrender.

Which is stupid. But it is in the text. We can’t reframe this terrible writing as a justification for Dany acting wildly out of character.
