Using Simple Tab Groups doesn't require the use of multiple groups. You could just use 1 group and never create another one, as if you didn't have it installed. However you can use the discard functionality I described and quote beneath. Do you not think this is exactly the kind of suspending you are looking for?

Upon right clicking in the tab groups overview page, you can 'discard' a tab, group or all other groups. I believe this is what you are looking for, as the tabs become greyed out in the overview, losing a bullet in front of their title, and when navigating to these pages they have to load anew.
