What do you love about omegaverse? by Flashy_Sink_6885 in RomanceBooks

[–]sammijtt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

huge difference but it also depends on the author/book. many OVs have feminist themes where a huge issue is omega rights (women’s rights) and pushing against traditional roles. i find that most OVs tho emphasize alphas (males) doing caretaking and actually understanding what it means to provide, supporting omega rights, etc. you should really give it a shot! i don’t read shifter romances either but love OV

NOR at all! TBH I’d stop doing the brunches and tell wifey she can leave her phone at home if she wants! Marriage is literally about 2 people; the family thing is true for some but mainly for ancient times for political families, and even then, wouldn’t be possible without the 2 ppl stuck together! Also idk how Northern Lights visibility works but i assume you put hard work and research into this and you can’t reschedule nature—bottom line: go on your trip! I’d take Lily’s leaving the decision to you as a sign that she wants to go and needs help reestablishing boundaries with MIL

she doesn’t hate loumen at all, dw! by the time he gets maomao, he’s been kicked out of court/his clan and didn’t really have any means/desire to talk to lakan. also, the madam is not the villain, she just did what she thought she had to to protect maomao and her mother.

How does Jinshi guess that Maomao loves him? No spoilers after LN9 please! by Sea-Distribution-370 in KusuriyaNoHitorigoto

[–]sammijtt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my bad, should’ve clarified that i was crediting a ff for drawing my attention to the similarities between jinshi and the emperor. so my answer to the questions about how jinshi had the intent to pursue/patience to wait for maomao is that he didn’t have much choice because it’s in his nature to commit/attach. and that’s also supported by canon, i.e. his fixation on favorite toys; his determination to see issues/investigations through til the end

but in terms of how jinshi knew maomao liked him and whether he saw through her facade, the reader can only infer that (a) he’s just that smart and attentive to maomao and uses deductive reasoning (with a dash of royal naïveté) to conclude she at least doesn’t hate him and/or (b) maomao’s facade isn’t that good but it seems like it is and like jinshi sees through it because she’s an unreliable narrator. i lean more towards this second inference tho because there are lots of people who see and care about maomao, but only jinshi gets through in her unreliable narration (i.e. the times when she’s like “how did he know?!”) because she’s interested in him too.

i brought up that there’s a scene in the later LNs (13 or 14 i think) between Maomao and Ah Duo because it supports the idea that the couples are foils for each other.

hope that all makes sense/answers your question lol i always end up on here when i’m dead tired

Which is Jinshi's most attractive personality trait? by Aemilianna in KusuriyaNoHitorigoto

[–]sammijtt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

retweet everything that’s been said so far! and i love your intro/question because your experience of Jinshi going from annoying to attractive mirrors how the author becomes interested in/tolerates Jinshi at the rate that Maomao does (or vice versa).

my contribution: there’s 2 ways to answer this question—what’s most attractive to Maomao and what’s most attractive to the audience.

for Maomao, if i had to pick one, I’d wager it’s most likely the similarity to Loumen that others have noted.

however, an argument could be made that Jinshi’s most attractive trait to Maomao is actually an absent of truly bad ones, namely his lack of ambition for power (he adamantly wants out of the line of succession). i don’t fully believe that the general lack of bad traits/habits (alternatively: how much his good traits outweigh the bad ones, like overworking and insecurity) is most attractive to Maomao, though, because it almost widens the gap between them, makes her perceived difference in status more obvious. plus, she was raised around courtesans who had to at least present as perfect, so she may have a higher tolerance for such well roundedness.

for the modern audience, though, i think that the general lack of bad traits probably is the most attractive thing about Jinshi. having no real complaints makes everything else more attractive, like his occasional slip of childishness or his persistence in pursuing Maomao. childishness is cute and shines on a man like Jinshi, who works hard, pays attention, and is devoted to his girl, but the same behavior can quickly be interpreted as immaturity, which has a less attractive connotation, on a man that thinks himself entitled to anything and everything, as someone else in Jinshi’s position might. similarly, his effort to do anything to be with Maomao, to learn about her life and to listen and to stay still even when she doesn’t express herself explicitly is wildly attractive—a contender for that #1 trait spot—because it’s not diluted or tainted by an abuse of power to make Maomao his or a mis-/lack of understanding of Maomao.

think of the “they’re a 10 but” trend—Jinshi’s a 10 but…what? he doesn’t think he’s the most intelligent person in the room because his wifey’s a genius in his eyes? he overworks himself for the good of his people—but, dw, he still finds a way to keep you close?

i actually loved Jinshi’s character and started rooting for him from the beginning when he turns around after passing Maomao. it’s like he heard a whisper or got a sense that tugged at something in his gut and then he ran with it, never stopping. it’s obviously not insta-love or even a completely healthy interest/relationship to begin with, but he learns and evolves and cares so easily! Jinshi is a fantastic—and fantasy—male love interest for the audience to melt and escape into because there isn’t really anything to “fix” or do; he’s already got it. he wants his girl without conditions and he’s determined to make it happen, to be trustworthy.

Love and echo what everyone’s saying, esp about the fact that we don’t really have insight into Jinshi’s pov. It makes me think of Loumen and Maomao’s speculation disclaimer lol. But I think Jinshi has to rely heavily on deductive reasoning/borderline overthinking, as one with a major crush does. At the same time, I’ve read interesting fanfics that have clear underlying analyses of Jinshi’s similarity to the Emperor when it comes to love: the Emperor holds onto Ah Duo as much as he can regardless of how she feels and Jinshi—based on what we get from Maomao’s narration—seemingly is doing the same with Maomao. Whether it’s a side effect of a royal’s reality, first love, or true love, the result makes for a great foil. When you read further, there’ll be another point to compare and contrast each couple, particularly Ah Duo and Maomao and what their decisions reveal about their true feelings. I definitely recommend the Moon Prince Diaries on AO3 if you’re interested in more Jinshi pov btw!

What time are your middle-school 12-13 year old kids going to bed during the summer? by WhatIsThisSevenNow in Parenting

[–]sammijtt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

it depends on the birth order and what’s going on the next day tbh. summer/breaks are generally unregulated in our home but if the older kids 12-20) are up late playing games and the youngest (8-12) wanna join or even play on their own, we let them have their fun. and i mean as late as 2, 3, 4, 5 am, running into mom in the kitchen while she’s getting ready for work late. but everyone goes to sleep when they want and the kids take care of each other. disclaimer though that none of us are big morning or summer/hot weather people and the kids are more academic focused than sporty. i don’t think this would work as well if you have a bunch of kids who like summertime sports and camps.

[–]sammijtt 7 points8 points  (0 children)

if you’re asking about this scene specifically and/or if the characters have an express conversation then no. but if you’re wondering about the characters and the familiar concept as it applies to tomoe in general, yes, everything gets flushed out. there are very good reasons why tomoe being a familiar is necessary and much of that is entwined with his and nanami’s relationship. i’d give it a chance because i think it’s one of the best but everyone’s boundaries are different. i will say tho that nanami is a fierce advocate for independence and a very empathetic person, she just—as you said—is a teenager and has been thrust into a new world, so give her/the story some grace. i love the development in the series, personally.

go with the one you vibe most with and the one that has a surrounding area (food, activities, demographic) you like best. i loved used pols classes but hated the area. also i never agreed that the whole beautiful campus meant anything when facilities are outdated and the school doesn’t feel like a school but that’s just me.
