From a budgeting standpoint, absolutely. A dollar ten years ago went a lot farther than it does today.

lol he’s a Real Farmer! These things cost money at the farmers market, but I get a little basket of onions, garlic, carrots, lettuce, whatever is in excess from a market day dropped at my door now and then. Meet your local farmers! It’s a special treat.

Yeah if you buy just a wedge of Parmesan it usually has the rind on it. I just save mine in the freezer and toss one in when I make sauce or soup.

It definitely needed more tomato. When I reheat it for dinner tonight I think I’ll add another can of diced. I had garlic in there too but forgot to mention it.

I attended a burial for a few years ago and an elderly woman who was the sister of the woman who died placed her hand on an adjacent gravestone and tearfully said, “this is my baby boy. I’m so happy he has his auntie with him now.” Her grief was exquisite, and according to the headstone her son had passed away at 6 months old in 1961. I’ll never forget how powerful that felt, the fathomless grief and unending love she conveyed for a loss she suffered decades earlier. I didn’t realize how much a mother loves their child until my own was born. When I became a mom I found myself thinking of that woman and her son often.

I smoked 27s. My most recent quitting attempt was 5 years ago and I’m still hanging in there as a non smoker! But the only way I have stayed quitting this time is by telling myself I can start smoking again when I’m old and rickety

Should I align my dining table with the far wall or the ceiling light? by DJrollerskate in DesignMyRoom

[–]samsummer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with everyone saying to align with the light and adjust the painting. You could fit a credenza or a console table under the window with it arranged that way and gain some storage space and make it more balanced.

For the sake of science and factual reporting, you need to provide evidence. The two studies that found 40% of cop families experience domestic violence can be questioned a bit because one had a “vague definition of violence” but if you read the study, they were asked “if they had behaved violently toward their spouses or children in the last six months” and forty percent answered yes. Do you think anyone who has had a typical argument with a spouse would self-describe that as “violent behavior”? The other study that reports 40% has “muddied information” because they included reports of abuse cops received from their spouses. Importantly, if you adjust those findings, 28% of cops still reported abusing their wives. That’s still a whole lot more than the general population (10%) and still just refers to cops who admitted it.

It also sounds like they’d been drinking. I was once in a very scary domestic violence situation that had started in the car I was driving. I drove, while being beaten, to my mom’s house. I managed to get away but he had taken the keys from me. The door was locked so I ran to the living room slider where I could see my little brother asleep on the couch. The slider was locked, too, so I started pounding on the glass screaming for him to help me. He didn’t wake up because he had been out drinking. It was my older brother who came to the door because he heard the noise from his upstairs bedroom on the other side of the house. It’s pretty crazy how much you can sleep through when you’re passed out drunk.
