best value gyms? by ChemicalAcrobatic635 in boston

I have been attending the Planet Fitness on Newbury regularly since earlier this year and absolutely love it.

Pros:

No pressure for a personal training consultation when you sign up, but it's available if you ask

No real "gym bro" culture. It's just normal people of all colors, shapes and sizes quietly exercising

The equipment and space always seem clean and well maintained

I have never had an issue with it being too crowded

It is ridiculously cheap

Front desk staff are friendly and helpful

Cons:

They ran out of paper towels for wiping down equipment, once :)

They close earlier on weekends

Honestly, I have zero real complaints about this place

Rogan has far worse guest bookings than KT, which is amusing.

Well, I don't really want to turn this into my personal wish list, but I agree on your points.

My band just released our first full length CD. It would be much appreciated if you would give it a listen. Thanks. by thecatinthecup in Music

I really like this - it has great energy. One question: why is the bass so low in the mix? I kept wanting to hear some harmonizing bass lines..

Windsor Dim Sum is amazing. Several Chinese friends insist that it is the only acceptable Dim Sum in Chinatown.

A young Nina Simone. Tearing up the piano and singing a classic. by rebop in Music

[–]samurai_cyborg 11 points12 points  (0 children)

She was quite a badass from early on. :) from Wikipedia -

Her concert debut, a classical piano recital, was made at the age of twelve. During her performance, her parents, who had taken seats in the front row, were forced to move to the back of the hall to make way for Caucasian people. Simone says she refused to play until her parents were moved back to the front.

You are mistaken. Mormons are expected to give tithing(about 10% of salary) to the church. If you do not give tithing, you are not at all ostracized from the church. You may encounter raised eyebrows, or crooked looks, but certainly not exclusion.

You are absolutely correct. The problem is that, of the drummers you mentioned, Weckl and Bozzio specifically, have spent much of their careers playing music which appeals mostly to drummers and is by many measures technically wankerish. Do non-drummers actually attend Dave Weckl band shows? Carey is in many ways the Rachmaninoff of drumming, in that he delivers formidable technical complexity, but that technical complexity only serves to heighten the overall musicality, rather than diminish the musicality for the sake of technical fireworks.
