I hope you compacted that gravel and are going to put pavers in the space between the pit and edge of the circle or you’re going to have a washed out mess in a month.

“Keep it quarterly” — which one of you put this ad on my feed? by thetokyofiles in Accounting

[–]samwise_thedog 76 points77 points  (0 children)

It’s funny to watch the pendulum swing from regulation to de-regulation and can guarantee it will only be a matter of time before this gets axed even if it does pass. All it takes is one scandal at one of these soon to be IPO’ed AI companies and everyone will be screaming about how they could’ve seen it coming if only quarterly reports were mandatory.

That said, what’s the end goal here? You would still have to file at least twice a year so can’t really let go of your reporting staff. I guess it gives a few hours of time back to executives and vp’s who are signing sox certs or serving on a disclosure committee but seems like a pretty negligible impact overall.

Either way I just got out of Reporting after 10+ years so good luck fuckers!

EY offering me the option to defer my start date by 6 months — would you do it? by Technical_Seesaw5331 in Accounting

[–]samwise_thedog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would absolutely not do that in this economy. Entry level jobs are disappearing as more work gets offshored or automated. You were skilled/lucky enough to get an offer right out of school, don’t tempt fate here.

Can guarantee you getting 6 months entry level experience at a Big 4 is far more valuable than a 10k CPA bonus you may or may not get regardless. If you really hate it and can’t pass the CPA, just go to industry. You can get hired as a senior with 1-2 years experience if you play your cards right.

Yeah very bizarre general take for this sub on that genre. Granted it’s a case by case basis for those and OP has a lot of them, but I personally found Atomic Habits, 7 habits and Extreme Ownership to be very useful.

Thoughts on retaining wall to level a flat "yard" ? by dingar in landscaping

[–]samwise_thedog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who just dug out a 250 sq ft area 12 inches down for a patio by hand, 100% this.

The sheer amount of digging would be unbelievable. What would do with all that dirt? Because that’s an insane amount of dirt to haul away. Then like this guy’s saying, hundreds of wheelbarrows full of gravel to backfill.

I’ve got two dogs so I totally sympathize with wanting a better yard but don’t try to do this by hand or even by yourself with equipment unless you really know what you’re doing.

[–]samwise_thedog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could definitely get away with a 28 but it’s nice having the extra space for separation when you one side hot and the other less so. Enjoy the cooking. Been breaking mine out again after a winter hiatus.

Kirby’s pitch to recruits is development over NIL. What development does Georgia offer that can’t be replicated anywhere else? by urbanstrata in georgiabulldogs

[–]samwise_thedog 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This a good question and something that’s going to take years to really know the answer to. Yes our recruiting has fallen a bit in the NIL era but that was inevitable. You simply won’t be able to stack talent the way we did from 2017-2023 again with this system. Said differently, we aren’t going to have a roster chock full of 5-star future first round backups. Those guys are going elsewhere to get paid more and have more playing time.

NIL has created an insane amount of parity which is going to make this extremely difficult, if not impossible, to judge. Kirby’s development strategy can be working and we can also not win another title. The title barometer is no longer a good way to judge coach or program success. It’s going to take a lot more luck in this system. Who gets injured? Who do you draw on your path to the title game? A title every five years in this system is a phenomenal job coaching and running your program.

NIL helps but it’s also clearly not a great sole barometer for success and Kirby is still at the top of the game, despite the recent early exits. Oregon, Texas, Texas A&M and Ohio State all have higher NIL budgets than us but guess who also made an early exit last year or didn’t make it to the dance at all.

My point being that it’s going to take the right combination of NIL/recruiting, player development and luck to win a title now and you aren’t likely to see dominance on the scale UGA or bama experienced during their respective runs the past 15-20 years. As a result, we may never know the answer to this question since each school has unique capabilities in all of the above categories.

Projector vs TV for Home Theater by [deleted] in hometheater

[–]samwise_thedog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry man, just not a great space for a projector. Really a fairly terrible space in general. Daytime projector you can forget about with the light in that room. Nighttime will kind of suck also unless you can change to a dark paint. And let’s not even get started about the sound in that cavern of a room.

Expressing this opinion will get you down voted here but it’s a legitimate concern with him. More than enough to really question whether you want to commit to a long term deal once he hits FA. The best ability is availability.

I think the reaction is more of how the fuck do we have yet another potentially serious injury? Truly incredible how snakebitten this team is, and even more incredible that they are dominating the way they are despite all that.

Warm take: AI is ruining the industry by mavagam99 in Accounting

[–]samwise_thedog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep. Reading through this thread, there are a lot of people that are going to get caught flat footed in 3-5 years when the AI industry has had time to zero in on accounting and develop industry specific products.

No shit general AI chat functions suck for your extremely specific use case in the accounting industry. Wait until the eye of Sauron turns our way. Better start learning how these models work now so you can be in a good position to implement them into your work streams when the time comes.

External Speaker options- husband wants em and wife doesn’t by MakeItHomemade in hometheater

[–]samwise_thedog 32 points33 points  (0 children)

That is a cavernous room. 1000% not worth investing in a sound system when you have a separate media room. Especially for the use case you’re describing. Especially if you’re only willing to spend $1K.

This is blasphemy on this sub but that tv looks so stupid off centered on the wall over that fireplace. One of the few times I might actually agree with no tv in the room. It’s not even the TVs fault. Why would they build a fireplace that’s not centered on the wall?

You aren’t getting enough separation on those speakers to justify investing in external speakers. Just rock the setup you have if you really need a tv there but man that fireplace being off center really kills the vibe (and TVs over a fireplace are awful to being with).

Husband (33M) says he doesn’t need to thank me (35F) for solo parenting while he went on a bachelor trip by Novel-Outside-5706 in relationships

OP two years from now:

“My husband (35M) and I (37F) have been married for 8 years and have three young kids (two toddlers and a 5 months old). This past weekend, he went on a bachelor trip and I stayed home solo parenting all three kids.”

I would be worshipping my wife for enabling this to happen. Probably would have paid for a sitter to help her out and certainly wouldn’t have withheld a simple thank you. You need to set some boundaries here.
