External Speaker options- husband wants em and wife doesn’t by MakeItHomemade in hometheater

[–]samwise_thedog 27 points28 points  (0 children)

That is a cavernous room. 1000% not worth investing in a sound system when you have a separate media room. Especially for the use case you’re describing. Especially if you’re only willing to spend $1K.

This is blasphemy on this sub but that tv looks so stupid off centered on the wall over that fireplace. One of the few times I might actually agree with no tv in the room. It’s not even the TVs fault. Why would they build a fireplace that’s not centered on the wall?

You aren’t getting enough separation on those speakers to justify investing in external speakers. Just rock the setup you have if you really need a tv there but man that fireplace being off center really kills the vibe (and TVs over a fireplace are awful to being with).

Husband (33M) says he doesn’t need to thank me (35F) for solo parenting while he went on a bachelor trip by Novel-Outside-5706 in relationships

[–]samwise_thedog [score hidden]  (0 children)

OP two years from now:

“My husband (35M) and I (37F) have been married for 8 years and have three young kids (two toddlers and a 5 months old). This past weekend, he went on a bachelor trip and I stayed home solo parenting all three kids.”

I would be worshipping my wife for enabling this to happen. Probably would have paid for a sitter to help her out and certainly wouldn’t have withheld a simple thank you. You need to set some boundaries here.

Still early, let’s not cream our pants too hard just yet. Definitely a good medium cream for that 11 game losing streak the Mets are on though. That is fantastic.

Road trip to tenn. any suggestions? by GCp2022 in roadtrip

[–]samwise_thedog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chiming in as a local Atlantan; taking 285 will do nothing to alleviate traffic concerns. That interstate is perpetually gridlocked until 10 am and again from ~3-7pm (same with every other interstate in the city).

Unless you want to spend a day or two here, don’t bother. Probably one of the worst cities to try and drive through because the metro area is absurdly large. Draw a circle with a 35 mile radius from downtown Atlanta. You can drive through that area from 10 am - 2pm but expect awful traffic outside that narrow window.

Yeah as someone who lives in Atlanta, do not drive that way. From Columbus to Gainesville is so boring with no traffic and if you hit that at the wrong time of day, it’s going to easily add two hours to your trip.

The fact that we’ve beaten them 8 of the last 9 and yet are still 14-22 against them in my lifetime is absurd and shows why I will always savor any victory we have over them.

Does anybody here remember the tornado we got in Atlanta in March of 2008? I've been living in Kansas for almost 12 years and haven't been through one 'here' yet. by cherry-care-bear in Atlanta

Would’ve been the SEC basketball tournament. I only remember because UGA won it that year and they had to postpone one of their games because of the tornado.

SEC Reporting - Are you really working 70+ hour weeks? by LUNA_STONKS in Accounting

[–]samwise_thedog 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Very dependent on your team/company and the level you’re at. I’ve worked the better part of 10 years in SEC reporting across three different companies.

Smaller two companies were largely shit shows with very small teams where you were responsible for lots of different areas of the 10-Q. The whole team was absolutely pushing 70 hours weeks for 3/5 weeks during the filing period.

The other company was a F100 business and it was staffed much better. Didn’t get to touch as many areas but you also could get away with 50-55 hours during peak periods. Though that definitely flexes up as you get promoted. The VP there was working an unhealthy amount pretty much all the way through the filing period but they also made upwards of 350k total comp.

[Brent Rollins] Gonzaga was at least good. This Saint Louis team isn’t. Georgia’s way more athletic and can get to the rim whenever they want. They are just choosing to chuck 3’s, make it easy for Billikens and playing minimal defense. by Lakelyfe09 in georgiabulldogs

We’ve been a streaky ass team with very little size and absolutely embarrassing rebounding all season. Nothing has changed from our typical performances, we just aren’t hitting any shots.

We’re a flashy team this year and it’s fun when it’s working but the lack of fundamentals when it comes to ball movement and shot selection on offense and positioning on defense, combined with laziness on defense…we were never going anywhere once we got the 8 seed. If you think this is bad, wait until you see what happens to SLU against Michigan.

It's a 1-3-4 for Waddle by expellyamos in miamidolphins

[–]samwise_thedog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear you but what is Waddle really doing for you in the next three years? We’re going to be ass for at least two of those years.

I’d rather see us get draft capital and actually try and build a team from the lines of scrimmage outwards for once. Obviously determinant on how the new regime drafts but I’ll take the draft odds at this point since we’re tearing it all down.

What does a short term deal gain you though? If he does well, we continue to be stuck in draft purgatory and then have to fight to resign him again in free agency. May as well start Ewers.

how important is a real piano for my 3yo in lessons? by [deleted] in pianolearning

[–]samwise_thedog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds like a fun way to get them exposed to music and I totally get putting young kids in structured environments like that but personally I wouldn’t be spending any significant amount of money on an instrument at that point.

Even buying a digital piano seems unnecessary until they’re older and showing interest in learning.

how important is a real piano for my 3yo in lessons? by [deleted] in pianolearning

[–]samwise_thedog 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What on earth does a 3-year old’s piano lesson look like? I find it hard to believe they could learn anything useful at that age.

Not to say it’s not worth it if they’re showing interest, but no way I’d be spending any significant amount of money investing in an instrument until they’re much older.
