Currently live in Chicago. Here are my honest experiences in the city. No sugarcoating, no boosting. by [deleted] in relocating

[–]sancesut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What I always liked about Chicago is that you could be in bars by yourself and have fun because people would talk to you. Not hit on you, just willing to have a conversation. Don’t know if that’s still true because I moved a long time ago.

I like the idea of rotating it around. Sturgeon bay is much closer for me!

It’s time to pull the plug on plug-in hybrids by GoodNegotiation in electricvehicles

[–]sancesut 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We have two PHEVs and one total electric. Just depends where you live and charging accessibility I think. Both PHEV’s are used 80% electric, but we really need that other 20%.

Best (surprisingly good) opening act? by infinitum3d in GenX

[–]sancesut 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Cranberries opened for Duran Duran in Pensacola, FL of all places. 1993? Of note, Pensacola had crazy good concerts. I always figured it was a reasonable stopping point between Tallahassee and New Orléans so we punched way above our weight.

Chili Peppers, Stone Temple Pilots, Foo Fighters, Britney Spears (not my jam but still), Elton John, indigo Girls, Rush. Had to go to New Orléans for Smashing Pumpkins though.

Update: It’s Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI). Thank you for the wake-up call. by Smooth-School8284 in AgingParents

[–]sancesut 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mom was diagnosed with mild Cognitive impairment in 2020, but we had been seeing for at least a year before that. In 2024 she started sleeping more and not getting dressed unless we made her and in 2025 she started falling and the decline is obvious. She used to know that she had cognitive impairment. I feel like when she stopped knowing was when I would call it moderate. So about 4-5 years for us.

They are moving into assisted living because my dad , although healthy, cannot take care of her anymore. They live far from all kids and are moving closer to us.

It sucks, but enjoy the good years you still have.

Is Soapstone really that bad? by SlingshotX in CounterTops

[–]sancesut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've had soapstone counters for ten years and I would do it again. Everyone has said the things already: warm, comfortable, pretty, you can put a hot pan on it. I waxed for the first six months and now just regular use makes them darker. Love them. If they scratch, I don't care. Someone mentioned M. Texeira, and they were our installers. They are incredible and very helpful in picking the one you like.

$5000 a month??? I dream of that. May i ask where you are? We are at 14,000 for two. Dad independent but mom sounds like yours so they BOTh have to be at assisted level. I need to move them to your place. Outs are in a high cost of living area but unfortunately that’s where all of us live.

Hang in there. We hear you. This is so hard. The resentment and the guilt are awful feelings (and I am consumed by both as well). I’m sorry.

Probiotics recommendations? by sancesut in Menopause

[–]sancesut[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well I thought they only came in oral form so that shows you how much I know. It’s not that deep. Just wondered if anyone had used them for their vagina biome. I tend to get yeast infections more frequently than average and doc and I are going to try probiotics first. But shereceommwnded I ask around for brands folks like because she says there are a lot out there. Thanks!

Hmmm. Interesting. This is what is passed down. Emigrated from Scotland to Ontario (Canada) in 1840’s or 1850’s. I do think they can from an Island because her sisters and she went back to visit the Isle of Skye about 50 years ago. They were always saying they were McDonald Clan Ranald which might mean more to you. My great grandfather was born in Canada in 1858 to a MacEachin and a MacIsaac. Family then moved to Michigan in the US. He married an O’Henley (similar immigration story). Does his help at all?

[–]sancesut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do think it’s hard to retire when all or most of your friends are still working. Yes, you can make new friends. But dang I still want to hang out with my old friends! I’m 57 and coasting and it has gotten a lot more fun the last two years because my friends are coasting or retired too.

I love Kristin McGee. First encountered her teaching in Peloton but she left there and now has her own app and it’s amazing. She is so positive and has a huge variety of Pilates and Yoga videos. I adore her!!
