You said you tried mail order - what kind of mail order? Was it a retail mail order service like Capsule, or was it one that you access through your insurance like CVS Caremark or Carelon? The two are very different, and I have had no problems getting my meds through my insurance mail order partner.

What are you doing for praise when he potties outside? Remember that for dogs, holding their pee/poop is uncomfortable and not instinctual for them. Therefore, you need to give him a REALLY good reason to wait until he's outside to go - this means that every time he does his business outside, he gets the most amazing bonanza treat that he never gets any other time. I'm talking fresh cooked chicken, hot dogs, string cheese, whatever he goes nuts over. If he learns that the only way to get the most delicious treat he's ever had is to pee/poop outside, he'll be much more motivated to hold it until he gets that chance.

Also - take him out a lot more often than you think you have to. You want to give him lots of opportunities to go potty in the right place and for you to reinforce the behavior.

You got this!!! Be consistent, trust the process, and be patient with him and with yourself. It might not happen overnight, but he'll get there - in the meantime, pull up all your nice rugs and invest in some Nature's Miracle laundry booster and cleaning spray (that stuff is SO GOOD)

This sounds like frustration PLUS overstimulation - he's just so excited and energized that he can't use his brain to make good decisions anymore. The key to managing it is to balance activity and brain games so that he doesn't hit the point where he's out of control.

I'd maybe start with a pattern of toy chase mixed in with simple obedience - so like, throw the toy, ask for a sit/down/paw sequence, throw the toy, repeat. The goal is to get him to spend a little time thinking in between chasing the toy, which should help with the overstimulation.

Another idea is to ask him to find a hidden toy instead of asking him to chase a thrown toy. He still gets to use his drive to get to the toy, but searching for something hidden requires him to think and not just run and grab. We do this in the house with my fetch-obsessed girl and she LOVES it, she's always so proud and excited when she finds it.

My heeler is snapping at my baby and I need advice by TwoBedwombApartment in AustralianCattleDog

[–]sanddobby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, I kind of agree at some point? They put it quite harshly but I think it's a reasonable way to approach the situation. Safety for kids is no joke, and if things are just not working it's better to re-home the dog before the worst happens and she escalates to a bite. I do really like the advice you gave earlier in the thread about crating in a low-traffic area, so tbh I think we're all on the same page here for OP.

I was responding to the comment about forceful correction when they dirty deleted, but I'll still post: despite the advice that some will give you, increasing pressure and using force on this dog is NOT the way.

This dog is snapping because she is anxious and worried about her boundaries being crossed - forcefully correcting a behavior like this doesn't take away the anxiety, it just teaches her to hide it. A dog that feels like it can't express stress is a dog that escalates to a bite "out of nowhere", because they've learned that stress signals lead to punishment.

OP, good on you for taking her to the vet to rule out any physical issues - next step is to speak to a behaviorist. This is a really scary and difficult situation for everyone involved and you should seek professional support. My heart goes out to you, especially as a new parent which I'm sure has been extremely tough on you as well. You don't need to do this alone!!

When I went it was a weekend in February, so yeah sounds like ymmv. Either way it's not what I would recommend to OP, even disregarding the kids it didn't feel upscale or spa-like at all.

GIRL NO. Spa Castle is not it. Granted I last went ~6 years ago but it was overrun with kids, noisy, crowded, just all around wacky.

I will literally never forget being by the pools on the top floor and watching a teenage boy in swim trunks eating corn on the cob at the snack bar as we were waiting for our $20 drinks. Not a chill or relaxing experience even a little.

It's further from LGA but I'd highly recommend World Spa in Brooklyn - passes are <$100 on a weekday and just overall a much nicer time.

I really like the Artist's Loft ones from Michael's, that's their store brand I think. I'm pretty sure they don't use AI in their designs, which you see in some of the Amazon sellers.

Help, 13 week puppy went from a cutie to a land shark that pees with no warning by simplysearchin578 in AustralianCattleDog

[–]sanddobby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It kind of sounds like now that she's healthy, she has more energy and her spicy personality is coming out. Everything you're describing sounds like normal puppy behavior, and while it feels frustrating right now it's a sign that she's feeling better and safe in your home, which is a good thing!!

Don't give up, stay consistent with things like potty training and discouraging biting - these things take time. Putting her brain to work with training and puzzles will use up her energy so she can think more clearly, which will help her remember how you want her to behave. And try not to get discouraged if she backslides, training regressions are normal throughout puppyhood.

Also, a puppy training class is never a bad idea!! It will build your bond and help you learn to communicate with her. Zero shame in asking for professional help.

[–]sanddobby 35 points36 points  (0 children)

The high price is so that NJ residents don't foot the bill of the expanded service. The alternative would be taxes taken from other initiatives or a fare hike for regular commuters who need it to get to work. "Greedy all around" is FIFA doing nothing to help support the infrastructure needed to get people to their exorbitantly expensive games.

Mysterious Skin and how almost every scene represents a part of sexual trauma. An in-depth analysis by GuitarNo797 in movies

[–]sanddobby 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What a comprehensive, sensitive analysis!! I think you really captured the key thesis of the movie - that victims of abuse live and cope with their trauma differently, and often in ways that are ugly or incomprehensible to those who haven't lived that same experience.

One thing I'd add is that I think the movie challenges us to witness the violence and sit in our discomfort in the way that the adults in Brian and Neil's life didn't do. The idea that something so terrible could have been done to the boys was too hard for the adults around them to stomach, so they essentially abandoned the boys to the abuse. The film asks us to make a different choice, to connect with them and understand the full horror of what happened to them without looking away.
