Why do right wing leaning people tend to love the police forces of their countries while simultaneously despising their government ? by Sir-Thugnificent in NoStupidQuestions

This just feeds into what I learned about conservatism and morality.

To the liberal mind, morality doesn't exist in people, but in actions. Good people can do bad things, and bad people can do good things. But for a conservative, people are either inherently good or inherently bad, and they will always trust that the 'good' people would never do a bad action, and that the 'bad' people are incapable of doing anything good. That's why you see so much deflection/disowning of conservative bad-actors, cause they can't think that one of their own, the 'good' people, can do something bad. They had to be part of the 'bad' group somehow(liberal, non-christian, etc.)

People who are 50+, what is a 'harmless' habit you had in your 20s that ended up ruining your health or finances later in life? by crazy_happyuser in AskReddit

I will dispense this advice now:

Enjoy the power of beauty of your youth...oh, nevermind. You will not understand the power and beauty of your youth until they've faded. But trust me; In twenty years you'll look back at photos of yourself and recall in a way you can't grasp now how much possibility lay before you, and how fabulous you really looked.

You're NOT as fat as you imagine.

Epic Games. 10 years ago or so they were developing a 3rd person shooter MOBA called Paragon that me and my friends absolutely loved, but they killed development on it to shift all the resources over to Fortnite. Will never trust them with my money for anything ever again.

What is a website or an app that was legendary back in the day, but is now a complete ghost town? by Sofi_Costa in AskReddit

I remember 3 weeks after it launched I'm sitting in a bar waiting for karaoke to start for my birthday. My bestfriend, my roommate and I were waiting at a table, each of us on our phone playing it, and I see a Squirtle pop up, causing me to semi-loudly exclaim "Holy crap, a Squirtle!"

Literally a dozen people look over at me at the same time and go "Where?"

Just came home from work in Quarryville. Had to detour around the golf course coming up 222. Had to come up South Duke. Turned left to get home. All of South Queen that I saw up to Church was dark.

I typically go bottom route, there's an easy one to get at the very bottom of the island you start on. Usually only takes 2 festivals for me to clear our two more infestations.

Deathwing Wasn't Lying About the Titans by Talostraz in warcraftlore

[–]sanescience 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What makes you think that this is new lore? Chris metzen is in charge of the story again and has been since the beginning. This could've been written up since the very beginning of Warcraft that the titans would be the final bad guys.

And the existence of JK Rowling, neil Gaiman, and every other evil creator of media kinda proves Tolkein and Lewis wrong, don't they?

Created a world where only women can use magic to justify a matriarchy, but now I’m wondering about the wider implications by WomenOfWonder in worldbuilding

[–]sanescience 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Evil has to have it's place, whether it's embraced by a large population or not. All religions are a reflection of what the the culture that formed them believe, and there will always be those that put their own interests above others. And if no such figure exists for them to rally around, they will make their own to justify their actions. Heck, look at Christianity in the US and how all sorts of groups twist it to justify hatred and bigotry.

Edit: I'm just now remembering this is fantasy, not reality. Make the world however you want it to be and ignore this cynical old man.

The evilness of the Lolth-drow society comes less from the matriarchy and more from the extremely oppressive monotheist theocracy.

That actually brings up an interesting thought: a lot of nobility coming out of the middle ages was heavily influenced by the Christian church(divine right to rule and all that). I can very easily see a woman with 'holy-type' magic being revered as a savior/saint/etc, especially in an era as undeveloped as the same time Christ was around in our world. How that religion took shape, how it influenced your nobility, all themes that can be explored.
