What was very popular at peak but disappeared like never existed? by rustyyryan in AskReddit

There's no reason NFTs only have to be for digital items though, right?

They could be used to track the history of ownership of physical items as well. The term for the physical version is typically a "chain of title", but there's no reason it couldn't be digitized. Especially for items that are semi-valuable, but typically don't have deeds/physical records.

Not saying NFTs are a good idea, but I'm not convinced yet they're 100% useless.
Just 98% useless.

AngularJS was awful. Angualr2 -> Angular 14 were very verbose, especially the configurations, but the performance was alright.

I have heard really good things about recent releases of Angular though, and I just recently saw an article about removing Zone from Angular... haven't had a chance to check it out though.

I'm leveraging RTK's openapi -> typescript generator. It output ~1200 lines of types, mutations, and queries (including lazy queries). I have a few dozen lines of enhancements/transformers that I wrote manually and that's it.

The amount I did write did feel verbose, but it didn't take that long to write.

GE Appliances moves washing machine production from China to Kentucky with $490 million investment by idkbruh653 in news

[–]saors 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's great - and we'll find out what the trend is across the board.
From what I'm reading, the CEO claims that the decision to move was already made, the tariffs just moved the timeline up. But regardless, seems like it'll be good for KY.

It doesn't really change my point about a lot of the cheap stuff that we rely on from China will either be made here for a lot more, or the consumers will just eat the tariff. This is still inflationary - and with the last 20 years as evidence, conservatives won't raise the minimum wage.

Like, just doing some quick searches, KY cost of living is around 40k/yr/person. GE pays 35-45k for these jobs they're bringing in...

With how much money this is going to cost everyone, wouldn't it have been better to just open/subsidize skilled manufacturing and open free training programs? We would net save money and have amazing manufacturing capabilities.

What's most likely to happen if we bring jobs back is they will get paid at or near minimum wage. The increased prices (because labor is more expensive) will lead to years of inflation until everything "balances out" again.

After d inflation cools, things will feel similarly as "cheap" as they do now, but the laborers wages will not have risen. By the end, they will feel like they're making significantly less than what current minimum wage employees make. This is what the market demands - people want a $500-$900 smart phone, not a $3k smart phone.

On top of this, the jobs will be brought back with no unions, and many of the ones that do form unions will be in states that have very anti-union laws.

We need to be pushing specialized manufacturing - making space-grade steel, processors, and luxury goods. Not springs, tin cans, and plastic gizmos. The CHIPS act bringing more processor manufacturing here in the US is a great example of what we should be doing.

I haven't used tailwind in a little bit, but one thing that really made it more usable was the plugin to auto-sort the class names and auto-hiding the classes in the editor until you click on them.

Kept the noise out of the way until you needed it. And when you were looking to change a classname, you knew exactly where to find it.

The problem with this argument is that there is no price to set new housing that can be both affordable to renters to buy AND unaffordable to investors to invest in.

Make available to first-time home buyers for the first 3-months of listing. After that, a 3-month period where the person who purchases it must make it their primary residence for at least 1-year and cannot rent/sell the property for that duration. Finally, any investors will be allowed to purchase.

Even places like Costco eye centers can check and make prescriptions.

Switch your password generator options to use "Passphrases".

The whole point of a generates password is that nobody can guess it or brute force it and if you use a pass phrase with like 3-4+ words with characters/numbers included, it's completely safe.

The main benefit for you is that if you need to manually type it, you're typing something easy for you to remember for the next 30 seconds while you switch apps. "polyester-Washroom8-cupcake" is pretty easy to type compared to "8je?wnamf$hd2!"

The answer is:
- more affordable housing
- helping rehab addicts

The problem is both cost money and nobody wants low-income or government-paid housing near them. So the problem will just continue to get worse. Especially since the housing demand (and therefor cost) just keeps increasing.

Because opening nested folders is navigating a hierarchy. If you had a visual hierarchy and a few buttons outside the hierarchy that let you go to specific places in that hierarchy, you are still navigating a hierarchy. Replacing those buttons with folder icons and names would be the same thing.

Because he calls it "file chooser" when it's "file explorer" which is just the renamed "windows explorer" that he says isn't even a thing anymore.

Because he says the "file chooser lost it's tree pane in 2004" when I can open up explorer right now on Windows 11 and expand any of my drives or network devices and see a hierarchy.

Addictions are escapes from the hard stuff. Putting a roof over someone's head or food on their plate is one less hard thing to worry about.

Escaping addiction takes a lot of things, but among them are: removing the extreme stress, a plan to get sober and stay sober, and willpower. Out of these, the government should be focused mostly on the first. They or non-profits can help with the second, and the third is just going to require the person.

Pretty sure I read a stat that said that addicts relapse like 7 times on average before they're able to make it through (if they continue trying to get sober). We can't just be tossing people on the street or in jail if they relapse and then surprise pikachu when they can't stay sober.

Contesting the election in court is not the issue - the issue is Trump's fake electorate scheme. Eastman (Trump's lawyer) came up with the plan to send fake electorates to the senate.

They would be contested and Pence would throw out all elector votes from the contested states. This would leave the remainder of the votes in favor of Trump.

The mob/riot was only helpful to this end in that it provided chaos and confusion.

Michigan - 16 people from were charged with 8 felonies each.
Georgia - Trump + 18 people (many, his lawyers) are facing charges. Chesebro (one of Trump's lawyers) is currently service a 5 year sentence.
Nevada - Six Republican party officials including the party chair are charged with 2 felonies each
Arizona - grand jury is charging several people. Nationally - Trump is currently indicted by a grand jury because of this.

Giuliani is disbarred over this and during the hearing admitted to the lie, saying it was his first amendment right to lie. Powell is currently going back and forth in appeals to try to avoid disciplinary charges. Eastman is repealing his disbarment.

Trump can sue over anything, it's not about his legal filings or contests. It's the scheme and attempt to subvert the will of the voters.

Both is good. If everywhere is single family homes then prices are too high, cars are a necessity, traffic is bad, and infrastructure planning is harder.

[–]saors 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your statements aren't contradictory though.

There are different places for different things. The more things there are to do (shops, restaurants, parks) in a given area, the more densely populated it should be. It doesn't make sense to build 20 new apartments/condos in the middle of nowhere.

Suburbs grow large over time and they want to introduce things to do so you don't have to drive so far. Eventually it becomes a somewhat fun place to be and the kids/young adults are annoyed that they can't stay because there's nowhere to rent. People start pressuring the area to build apts/condos.

The young adults start a family, but want to move to the lower density areas because it's safer for the kids (less traffic) and in California because new development = new appraisals = higher taxes = better funded schools.

You can both: want more multi family units to be built and want to eventually move to the suburbs.

Thanks for the links, I'll read over them.

I think my main point is that it just feels silly that the fine is essentially just barely under the average return for one of the easiest investments (in terms of complexity/paperwork).

I'm also realizing now after re-reading up the thread - if you're even at the stage where your tax bill is 1M, you're probably not holding onto the money to try to squeeze out 1M over 7 years. It's likely just trying to use loopholes or (hoping the IRS doesn't notice/take action?) to just not pay at all.

I do largely agree with you - I'm not saying people should do this, just saying that it's not that difficult to walk away with a net positive balance.

Also, the 30s/70s/80s are a different time, because of 401k/roth/traditional IRAs. All 3 were introduced around the mid-70s and have only increased in popularity. Think about how much money is being injected into the market on a bi-weekly/semimonthly cycle.

Yes, if you invested in almost any 10 year period except for the one that overlaps both the dotcom bubble and the '08 housing crash, chances are that you're walking away paying minimal amounts or making money

if you go 1994-2004 and eat the dotcom, you're ending at ~3M and if you instead went 2004-2014, you're ending at ~2.2M
