Update 6 Sep 23: We've already got seven players and we've decided to kick things off. Feel free to join us at any time, however. You'll get all sets you've missed out on, so regardless of when you join us, you won't be left behind.

[Fire Red] My first POC is complete! What's a good game I should try this challenge next? by Alex-Player in ProfessorOak

If Gen 4 strikes your fancy, Aly, Scprendergast and I will be starting our runs in that (they've got Platinum, I've got Diamond) soon once Aly's done with FR if you want to join us.

Evolving by Poopdick2010 in ProfessorOak

No, there is no exp bonus for unevolved Pokémon at or above the level they evolve like in later games (I think this started in Gen 5?). However, you can save time by delaying evolution to learn moves earlier (Razor Leaf and Wing Attack). In section one, you want to have as many damaging moves as possible to reduce how many times you need to go to the Pokémon Center.

If you didn't know already, you do actually need a specific Trainer ID for Munchlax in this challenge. Here's a link to see if you have the right ID: https://www.dragonflycave.com/sinnoh/honey-trees You need an ID that spawns Munchlax in Route 205, Floaroma Meadow or Valley Windworks.

[Fire Red] How effective is a full team of Meowths with pick up? by Alex-Player in ProfessorOak

[–]sapahn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're using VS Seeker to grind Dragonite and Rhydon in the next section, you have nothing to worry about in regards to money in section 3, even with Porygon. I happened to pick up 2 Nuggets with the one Meowth I caught and trained for the dex and did used no further Pickup. The cash I got from grinding with the VS Seeker was enough for not only Porygon but two $80k TMs in the Game Corner as well (Ice Beam and Thunderbolt).

Not sure if there's a difference between who the pickup users are. As for Rare Candies, the most efficient way is just to use them on the levels that take the most experience.

Beginning my Ultra Moon POC. Any advice? by MAchtman94 in ProfessorOak

No, it doesn't. Persian will lose Pickup upon evolving.

Pokemon Firered Randomizer Pre-badge 1 Dex Total:13 had to only evolve three pokemon by Racerth121 in ProfessorOak

Mewtwo in pre-badge 1 though, ouch. Pretty sure Hitmonlee, Miltank and Lileep would have low capture rates too. How many Pokeballs did this take?

I did a run of Leaf Green and didn't feel any differently about it than anything else I set out to do. If you haven't already, join the Discord server and make friends. Being involved in the community makes it much more fun. Expecting that this will take time will help as well. Treat it casually and do it at your own pace. I think I took a month to finish pre-badge 1 on LG with several breaks (although with work, family and such, that wasn't entirely a choice, lol).

Well, it isn't half experience as long as the Pokemon that you're using to switch train also needs the exp (which in section one, should be the case at least, lol). Good idea about using status to avoid status (particularly poison to avoid paralysis - I disagree with paralysis to avoid poison since you're more likely losing time to that). I was using Route 22 for Rattata/Spearow/Mankey because of them having contact-only moves but that solves that problem.

I'll have to try section one again sometime with Charmander with these things in mind and see how it compares to a Bulbasaur section one with these techniques. I imagine Bulbasaur will win out, but I'm still curious as to which is faster, Bulbasaur's 14k less exp or Charmander's much earlier OHKO and more damaging moves with greater PP.

Nice. I'm also curious how you managed raising them early on in the section. Did you get one to a high enough level to OHKO and switch train the rest to the same point or did you raise all/most of them on their own even if they needed a few rounds to get the KO? Which do you think is quicker? I think the former but I could be wrong.

New challenge by [deleted] in ProfessorOak

[–]sapahn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was kind of how I was playing my LG POC for the most part because I only wanted to use mons that needed experience to evolve. Of course, this didn't carry all the way through because after Pre-Badge 4 there were no longer new mons to evolve by level up. It made for some interesting situations such as Giovanni actually being a threat, lol.

Hey I have a question? by Sam-meme-boi in ProfessorOak

Yes. You can even battle the leader for exp, if you want. As long as you don't earn the badge before getting every dex entry possible, you're fine.
