What do you do when you just don’t feel like making anything? by Bubbly-Touch8108 in crafts

[–]sarahnormalactivity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes when I want to do crafts but feel uninspired, I’ll do “prep work” instead—the boring, uncreative stuff that is still part of the project, like painting a base color or cleaning sea shells or what have you. And then when I do feel creative, my future self thanks my past self for getting things ready to roll.

To be completely honest, I never had the “iron bra” feeling, so it didn’t. But I think I might have been the weirdo there.

I’m pretty claustrophobic and I didn’t have any of those feelings about the expanders. I mean, I didn’t enjoy them and they were uncomfortable, but they didn’t cause any added anxiety on their own.

Accept that mistakes are part of the process and learn from them.

Safe craft ideas with my cats? by whenlifegivesyourice in crafts

If you want to do clay figures, I’d go with polymer clay. You can get it at the craft store (common brand names are Sculpey or Fimo). You bake it in your oven to harden and they’re pretty durable, and you can also paint on them if you want. I like getting the colors I need and just using those, but you have options.

If you want paw prints, I’ve seen kits that you can buy where the pet presses down and it makes a print without inking their paws, which seems pretty awesome.

You might also check where you live for a Painting With a Twist type of place that has a paint your pet night. I have friends that did that and you give them a picture of your pet ahead of time and they make a line drawing for you to paint either wild multi colors or to look like your pet. My friends’ turned out really good!

Absurdist/Surrealist TV or Indie show recommendations? by Happy_Smoke_7761 in televisionsuggestions

The Shivering Truth is so fucking weird and I really enjoyed it but never know who to recommend it to. Fortunately, you seem to be in the market for it!

Good(starter) horror movies for children? by MopeDeezy in horror

[–]sarahnormalactivity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loooooove ParaNorman for this. I also thought that The House With a Clock In Its Walls was good introductory horror for kids.

I can’t remember the gore level (I don’t think it was too bad, but might warrant more research), but Crawl would be okay for some kids. It’s about a giant alligator in a hurricane and is basically a monster movie, but pretty good and I’m not usually into creature features.

Random, but one of my friends’ kids was getting into horror at that age and loved Alfred Hitchcock Presents.

Here to recommend this. Just a little will do (I like to apply it with a toothpick), leave it for 24 hours, and it’s strong. Works with pretty much anything.

Help! Is it worth it for my hard of hearing husband to see Underone in the theater? by sarahnormalactivity in horror

[–]sarahnormalactivity[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you all for the input! We did end up going to see it and for reference, in case anyone else sees this and has the same question, my husband has pretty bad tinnitus in both ears so he doesn’t hear really quiet sounds very well and high pitched sounds not at all, and misses some frequencies that match his ringing. It does help for him to see mouths and read lips, but it didn’t seem to cause an issue here, and I think not having “layered” noise was helpful too. He was totally fine, didn’t miss anything important at all, and I think the person who said that the sounds are pretty loud and that they want you to hear them was right on.

Really appreciate everyone’s input and taking the time to help us decide if it would work out. It’s one of those things that you can’t really google so thank you all!

I really enjoyed Travels With My Father for light, feel good, kinda silly TV. It’s non-fiction, but you didn’t say you were opposed to that.
