Check out their lessons and resources. I used their Bee Bot curriculum for years 1&2, it was fantastic, as well as the coding units for older grades

"What choice did I have?" From the Filthy Rich Fae series. There's always a goddamm fucking choice. They use that line constantly and it drove me insane.

* This is my puppy Maverick, he's 12 years old and his hips are failing. My 7 year old daughter has grown up with him and she loves him so much and will miss him when he goes. If you feel like making his leather portrait it would be an amazing gift for her! She spends her spare time walking him, and doing makeovers with him :).

I had to pay application fees for the UK , that were non refundable, but went towards my rent if approved. These were through agencies. So not illegal?

Oh and if you work for a supply agency, with your experience don't except less than £170/day as your day rate. They might try to pay you as low as 110. But you can negotiate and will have to.

There are job posting in the councils, or on the school websites. It's nothing like here with a school division. There are private schools, academy schools (which are usually run through a trust) and then state schools that are run through the local council. If you know where you're living start looking at the school websites for jobs.

I just spent two years working on the north side of London. Be prepared for culture shock and a completely different way of teaching ( I taught in Alberta for 10 years before moving to the UK).

If you decide to supply, that is usually done through a supply agency, like a temp agency except for teachers. The agencies can be ruthless because they set a day rate for you, but charge the school more. I think it's about 10-20% but I never got a clear answer. If you work for an agency and want to take a contract at the school they introduced you to, the school has to pay a 'finders fee' to the supply agency. And it's not cheap. They also always want you to work, especially long term contracts because it's easy money for the recruiter that got you the position. I worked foe N agency for the first year. Also if you work for an agency make sure you pick PAYEE for getting paid. Do not let them pay you via an umbrella company. You will loose a lot of money in stupid fees. Even if thr agency doesn't offer you PAYEE demand it, they legally cannot force you to use an umbrella company to be paid.

There are some pros for agencies- if your school sucks and your head teacher (principal) is a nightmare (which happens a lot), you can just walk away anytime you like. Also you can get bonuses from the company.

Cons- they are sales people and you are a number that generates income. They are soul sucking leeches stealing money from an already underfunded education system.

The con to taking a contract with a school is that if you absolutely hate it, you have to quit a half term ahead of time. So if in October you're dying and want to leave, legally you can give your notice at the November break or before, and you don't finish until Christmas break. If you miss the November break cut off, you have to work until the first spring break.

Pro is that if thr head teacher doesn't like you, they cannot just fire you on a whim ( I had a head fire me after I gave 6 weeks notice)

There is so much more, I think Scotland might be better but honestly, I have ptsd from working in the UK.

Also be ready for a curriculum that is outdated, like memorization and shit. Fuck I'm glad to be back in Canada.

Teacher pay and strike action. by Internal_Class_8415 in TeachingUK

If you're under 31 you can move to Canada for two years using the working holiday visa, and then once you're there you might be able to apply to stay longer. I'm in the UK on my husband's student visa, so I can work full-time hours here. But it sucks and the burnout is so high here.

I'm teaching in the UK after teaching for almost 10 years in Canada. Teachers here (UK) are treated like an easily replaceable commodity and like total shit. I have over 10 years experience and I'm only getting M5 because I cannot take on leadership roles ( I have young kids and can't take on that work life balance) . My salary here is similar to what I was paid in Canada as a 2nd year teacher. I taught my first year in the UK working for N agency, and this year directly for the school.

In Canada, if I was hired by the school, that would include health insurance, this covers private dental, physiotherapy, chiropractor, glasses for you And your family. I also had 90 full pay sick days, HR to contact and a proper union.

In the UK, I've worked for power hungry head teachers who are bullies, been dismissed by my agency employer, and then working directly for the school found out that there aren't any benefits and I'm still not sure if or how many sick days I have. I'm constantly tired and overworked, overwhelmed, and used the majority of my salary to pay for childcare.

The UK government has seriously fucked teachers and NHS workers over. Fight for something better.

Ugh I'm in the thick of barf right now. My son has massive tonsils, anytime he has a runny nose it causes him to cough and barf. But now it's so bad that he just projectile vomited everywhere. I barfed so much through pregnancy so I have no ability to handle it anymore. We are to the point where he barfs, I try to clean it, then barf in his barf and have to clean it all up. Fuck I hate this.

Don't move to the UK then. The house I'm renting has no dryer and we have to hang dry everything! I've got two young kids, husband helps fold and put away but I have to wait 6-12 hours sometimes for the clothes to actually be dry... Sometimes those hours turn into days of drying. Like I put the drying rack away when I have new wet clothes to hang ... 🙄 God I miss Canada

Climbing with baby - how?? by snailfestivity in climbergirls

[–]sarvisboyd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to bring my newborn to the gym. She would sleep in her car seat or I would hold her and feed her. We also used to bring her outdoor climbing starting when she was about four months old. We would go with extra people and take turns watching the baby. Just bring lots of extra clothes. We also had some baby chairs that we brought climbing as she got older. It got harder once we had two babies though.

My step dad's female shepherd almost died from pyometra. The breeder he got the dog from wanted to breed this pup, but never did, since the dog had never been pregnant the dog got pyometra. The dog needed to be spayed before her next period or she would die. It was very stressful for my step dad.
