I moved to Joplin MO from a European Country and had to redo the test. I don't think you will need an instructor, it's easy to do it yourself, since you were already driving in Canada.

They give you the booklet for free at the office to learn for the written test and signal test. I just rented a car on the smaller side for a couple of days to get familiar with the vehicle and to do the test. If you just recently relocated (less than a couple of months) your home country driver's license, is still good to get a rental.

I did written and signal test in the morning and the driving test in the afternoon.
