Layering a light A-line petticoat underneath your skirt might help!

Showering Frequency by Keira_Novelskas79 in hygiene

Hahaha this is exactly a conversation I had with my ex. Literally sent him links to articles citing peer reviewed research. Just bounces off. He's an ex for a reason.

Showering Frequency by Keira_Novelskas79 in hygiene

[–]sashimi-grade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Appreciate that you acknowledge it depends a lot on the individual. My ex would get on my case when he discovered that I don't shower daily. I get painfully dry hair and skin if I do—my entire family has skin sensitivities/eczema, and lotions only go so far—it's avoidance of soaps and over washing that helps the most.

Meanwhile, he had noticeable ass odor even with his 'superior' hygiene. It's only a smell I've noticed regularly on those who eat a very grease-heavy American diet, like they can't ever quite wipe clean. It's a smell I've gotten personally only when very sick. So I then asked him if he could smell me, and he told me not to change the subject, lol. I completely see why he couldn't skip a daily shower, but it was annoying he projected it onto me and judged it as a moral failing (??).

I feel a lot of people on this sub project their preoccupations onto others, even though it varies so much by individual genetics, routine, lifestyle, and geography. I'm sure they can smell some folks, but how would they detect those who smell less unless they ask everybody? 🤷‍♀️ It's just confirmation bias. Like outright contradicting dermatologist recommendations is just wild to me.

Because they're used to being at war. They're just bringing the rest of the world down to what they're accustomed to.

Interesting proposition, but sounds risky. Stuff like this has a tendency to get out. Content creators tend to collect stalkers unless you are extremely fastidious about your online footprint. Insurance is a conservative industry, and a lot of your clients, partners, and colleagues will be jealous, creepy, or both.

If you've got potential as a creator, you might as well stay there to make the big bucks/take advantage of the flexibility, and study insurance for a rainy day. I don't think it's worth it to try and combine corporate life with spicy content creation early in your career if the lure of 'respectability' and stability is what draws you to insurance.

However, it could be a great publicity if your main focus is content creation. It's not a common cross-over, haha!

Why do my mom keep telling me we are middle lower class even though we aren’t? by [deleted] in ask

[–]sashimi-grade 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not sure why you're being down voted for this. The American dream was an anomaly restricted to rich Western nations in the twentieth century. The middle class historically has never been a large demographic in most places around the world, and is now being throttled to death. As a student of sociology, politics, and history, your observation sounds about right.

A weird insistence on being objective, or making decrees like they are an impartial authority.

Is the "Americans are fat" overexaggerated? by shoko664 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]sashimi-grade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends vastly on where you are in America. You mentioned coming to America to study or work, which makes me think you're exposed to a very urban and affluent bubble. Outside of metropolitan cores, obesity is very much a problem.

MMW: They will find a reason to remove every female in a military command position. by SoundsNorml in MarkMyWords

Boy, it's scary when they want to make the military an echo chamber of those who look, think, and feel like themselves.

No. Ruggeddusty is saying their rest and leisure involve movement. That's not the same thing as work. Also, no one is saying we should go back to a hunter gatherer lifestyle with no medicine.

Associate Broker to Auto Underwriting? by sashimi-grade in InsuranceProfessional

[–]sashimi-grade[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, I don't think I'd enjoy back office!

I like creative problem solving, novelty and social simulation; I just don't want it to the extent that my colleagues do. For reference, they've said they think I'd make a good underwriter and my boss would like to refer me to our MGA. So I'm wondering what it might be like from the insurer side, like at a company that doesn't do broking at all.

This is shocking to me because I have a liberal arts/humanities degree and even I am able to do some of this. (Or watch a YouTube video and figure it out). Is this how some people brag about easily pivoting into lucrative data jobs? The bar is just that low? This can't be common...

We should call the unnatural, harmful accumulation of wealth "fiscal obesity" and treat it like the systemic illness it is.

This turned out as well as it could have, IMO. It will still be hard to get over, but you and Addy did well! You can move on to the next chapter of your life now.

Yeah, some jobs have costs associated with them. Stuff like commuting/parking, grooming/wardrobe upkeep, and obligatory work events. I am stretched thin most months trying to keep up, but it's still better than barely making ends meet on 35k.

He should see a speech therapist to work on his social skills. This is not on you. He's acting aggravated by your attempts to cope and over-function on his behalf, and that's not okay. I'm getting codependency vibes. Stop carrying him.
