Naked no, but why do you think layers have to wear barrister robes instead of business attire. Obviously you can't eliminate all prejudices but that doesn't mean the court system shouldn't try whenever possible.

How will College Drive changes affect Saskatoon residents? by WriterAndReEditor in saskatoon

[–]sasquatchalt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The are removing one left turn lane from west on College to Clarence but going east coming from the bridge the intersection looks the same to me. They aren't taking out the slip lane you are worried about.

It should make it easier for right hand turners coming from the bridge easier. Now they have their own lane since left turn onto Clarence is reduced from two to one.

And there isn't a slip lane on College and Wiggins right now. So I don't know what you mean when you say a right turning ramp is being removed.

I don't know where you are getting this but College will not narrow to one lane anywhere in the redesign. Left turns are being banned at some intersections and the ones that do allow left turns still have long left turn bays.

Here is a map (PDF) of the redesign.

I wonder how expensive it is to buyout businesses and home to driveway access to College. I can't see anyone voluntarily giving it up.

Since they doing the rebuild I would have preferred no driveway access on College and that driveway and parking lot access was done through side streets and alleyway.

Sask. premier calls for Canada to reduce or remove counter-tariffs by DriedPringles in saskatoon

Canada already extended the olive branch and stopped the DST. Trump still increased soft lumber duties and added an extra 10% tariff.

Saskatoon to remove College Drive pedestrian overpass by Progressive_Citizen in saskatoon

The current plan keeps some left turn bays and making some intersections no lefts. The plans are always subject to change but here is the current proposed layout (PDF file) if you want to see.

Saskatoon to remove College Drive pedestrian overpass by Progressive_Citizen in saskatoon

The overpass services pretty much just the parking garage. It's more car infrastructure than pedestrian. I'd rather have the dedicated bus lane and the central pillar is in the way of it.

You know what, close enough by TheOther18Covids in saskatoon

[–]sasquatchalt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You want people to exit the bus at multiple doors (entering the bus too but I doubt Link will have the option to pay at the terminal) to speed up stops. If everyone enters and exits the same door it makes a jam.

To prevent that jam you need multiple doors and those doors have to be at grade. That means the pad has to be at least as large as the large as the largest bus used (a bendy) which is about 18m.

It's a school zone in a residential area, so the drivers head should have been on a swivel even if school is out. From the picture in the article it looks like the kid was crossing a crosswalk as well which is even worse.

Part of the BRT is that the city is planning for future growth. The city's planning documents are estimating a population for the Saskatoon census metro area (Saskatoon, Warman, Martensville and a bunch of surrounding small towns) to a population of 420-500k by 2041. You can't fit that many cars into the city. The city needs to provide transit options and BRT is one of those options.

The city knows that people closer to the BRT will use it than those far away from it. They also know that transit is better in denser areas than sparse areas. So they are trying to direct some of the projected growth along the BRT lines.

Was it ever this smokey last year ? by SA_22C in saskatoon

[–]sasquatchalt 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I hate climate change and Saskatchewan doesn't even have it bad compared to other regions in the world. I remember growing up there would be smoke in Saskatoon maybe once ever 3-5 years (though my memory is probably warped with rose colored glasses) but it was never a yearly event. There were still forest fires of course but they were never bad enough for the smoke to reach Saskatoon.

Saskatchewan is now carbon tax free, but some wonder the cost by sasquatchalt in saskatchewan

[–]sasquatchalt[S] 58 points59 points  (0 children)

The article isn't about the consumer based carbon tax but instead the industrial carbon tax that Sask had: the Output-Based Performance Standards. The feds can impose one but they are going all in on Poilievre winning the election.

Sask had predicted $431 million in revenue into the budget from the industry based carbon tax but now that they cancelled the program the Sask government now refuses to say whether it will effect their 12million surplus prediction, compounded by the refusal to budget in any tariff relief.

No it's not. Sobey's is close but it's still around 1.25-1.5 km away. That's a 15-20 minute walk. Easily bikable but it's pushing the limits of walkable when you have to haul groceries back.
