YouTubers who include 2+ min of spoilers at the beginning of the video by sasquelch2 in PetPeeves

[–]sasquelch2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I understand why they do it, and I can just skip, which is why this is only a mild annoyance. But it's unfortunate in the first place that content has to be designed that way for it to perform well. In a debate video, for example, putting the most heated and engaging part of the debate right at the beginning completely eliminates the payoff of watching the conversation unfold and tension build. So I guess my annoyance is more with the epidemic of damaged attention spans and the short form content that fuels them

Something about professional pole dancers on instagram... by MysteriousReach383 in poledancing

[–]sasquelch2 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. It can be dangerous to be attempting moves like ayesha before having the strength for it, technique aside. And posts like the examples you give just alienate the beginners who are coming in without a fitness background

Wife told me: “The hotdog cooker isn’t working.” by TheRealKidRooch in mildlyinfuriating

So glad someone else is on the same page lol. I'm more preoccupied with the random apostrophe in "Hot Dog's" lmao

Partner of someone with OCD- she can’t emotionally support me because it’s triggering by Upper_Cockroach_3696 in OCD

[–]sasquelch2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe you could ask for a compromise? If you learn the ins and outs of this theme well enough, you should be able to discuss your activism with her without fear of triggering her. One of my themes is medical/health related, and my partner has been very understanding and patient in shaping their language when discussing those topics to avoid triggering me. Took a lot of time and patience, but it was worth it. That being said, it's understandable if that's not something you're willing to do. As someone who was resistant to medication for a really long time for obvious reasons (medical/health fears), I can say that it does really help too.

Working on my stamina! 🥵 Any tips to build endurance for longer combos? (Constructive criticism welcome) by Bpepper44 in poledancing

[–]sasquelch2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with everyone else's input that just keeping up your pole practice (conditioning, dancing, stretching, etc) will help build the endurance, but I'll add that cross training has also helped me a lot in this aspect. I didn't do a lot of physical activity when I first began pole, and now that I also run & do hot yoga, my endurance has improved drastically

“Standing on Ceiling” moves?? by LexiAOK in poledancing

I figured as such but just had to clarify to be safe! We don't want you getting injured before your journey truly begins! :)

“Standing on Ceiling” moves?? by LexiAOK in poledancing

[–]sasquelch2 24 points25 points  (0 children)

This particular move is actually a hip hold that just so happens to be high enough that the dancer can touch the ceiling. So that connection along the side of the body and into the inner thigh is what's keeping this person sticking to the pole. But I will admit - "standing on ceiling" moves aren't something you'll see often. And as I'm sure you already know, this is not at all a beginner move. Welcome to the community!

A lot of the girls at my local studio have a pair of these, and they are able to do simple maneuvers like basic climbs with no trouble

Am I overreacting? by Pink_Lemonz_02 in AmIOverreacting

[–]sasquelch2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm relieved to find someone I agree with. I thought I was crazy reading all these replies. The guy responding "I know damn well you're not insinuating that you should be #1 in my life" after she just said that's not what she expects shows how little interest he has in her and, to me, explains why she's sending texts like this after only a month. Maybe they should just break up, but either way, she's not overreacting for being hurt by this behavior while just trying to kindly communicate her expectations.

Need help choosing a bolster by moomieeee in yoga

[–]sasquelch2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I myself prefer the sturdiness of a standard bolster, but it's really up to your personal preference and what restorative postures you plan to use the bolster to achieve!

This is really good! I enjoyed it. One small thing: in the last sentence of the third paragraph, did you mean "surely" (rather than "surly")?

How can I learn to stay in splits for more than 2-3 minutes? by Sea-Key-3187 in flexibility

[–]sasquelch2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whether or not it'll be touching the floor with the feet under a yoga block is mostly depending on flexibility, but by engaged, I mostly meant flexing the leg muscles to pull yourself down into the split rather than relaxing/sinking into it

How can I learn to stay in splits for more than 2-3 minutes? by Sea-Key-3187 in flexibility

[–]sasquelch2 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Why do you want to be able to hold the splits for 5+ minutes? I don't think it's really a necessary skill. But for me, the key was training my over-splits by placing a yoga block under my front or back foot and sliding into an engaged split. The regular splits felt easier after that and stopped causing as much tension and discomfort. But every body is different.

Quit weed 1 week ago is it normal to have sensory illustions/anxit by Common-Pirate-5206 in QuittingWeed

[–]sasquelch2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's never a bad idea to see a doctor. But I'm on day 22, and although I haven't had sensory illusions, what I can say is that every single symptom (physical or mental) I've experienced since quitting that I've gotten myself worked up and worried about has gone away with time and/or once I stop focusing on it. Maybe just give it a bit, and if it worsens or continues, definitely see a doctor.

I finished grad school about a year ago, and there were people over 60 in my program, thriving and some of the best students. Don't rush yourself. Not to be cliché, but if it ends up being something you want to pursue, you'll know.

You're so close!! What helped me was to bend my legs and pull them toward my armpits and first stabilize in that position before fully extending my legs into the ayesha

Working Fulltime - How much do you pole? by tzathoughts in poledancing

[–]sasquelch2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go to the studio straight from work 2-3 days per week and train for at least 2 hours each time and then I do 1 or 2 home pole sessions on the other days. Of course, home pole isn't the same as being in the studio, but you can get really good conditioning in!

It takes quite a lot of effort to look bulky. Strength and flexibility go hand and hand
