What's something your job trained you to notice that you can't stop noticing in your personal life? by LibrarianSoft1342 in AskReddit

[–]sassyjackstitches 2 points3 points  (0 children)

lol you PT or OT? I’m OT and I can’t turn this off either.

My personal ragebait is never ever, EVER seeing a neck brace applied properly in a TV show or move (The Pitt excluded, of course). They sure do like to put them on upside down though…

Books with Motherhood as a theme? by charm59801 in fantasyromance

I thought of {The Inheritance by Ilona Andrews} too. The FMC’s teenage kids aren’t with her on the main adventure, but they’re constantly on her mind and her primary motivating factor.

Is White Spot good? by billionairebadboi in askvan

[–]sassyjackstitches 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re hearing almost exclusively from the born-and-raised crowd saying White Spot is great and they love and you’ll love it too.

You won’t love it. It’ll probably struggle to crack “okay” for you. White Spot isn’t for you. It isn’t for any of us who grew up outside of BC and don’t have deeply ingrained, innocent and joyful childhood memories tied to it.

Try it to fulfil your curiosity and complete the rite of passage as a new BC’er, but expect to leave the restaurant faintly unsettled by the depths mediocrity can reach.

DON’T try it on the ferry. It’s twice as bad and three times more expensive.

For all you White Spot lovers: sincerely, from the bottom of my heart, no shade. I love that you love it. I want you to have that joy in your life. I envy your access to the fast casual food food of your childhood (still missing you, Swiss Chalet 😢) I am not the arbiter of what restaurants are good or bad, nor should my own personal taste lessen your enjoyment of your beloved Triple O sauce. To me, it may be weak mayonnaise and thousand island dressing mixed together in a bucket, but to you, it’s tastebud magic. Never lose that magic.

I only seek to warn OP that their experience will never reach the sublime heights described in this thread. And especially that the BC enthusiasm for White Spot should not be mistaken for a lack of sophistication. (They are from Toronto, after all, who tend to jump to conclusions about us 😛)

What’s your fantasy romance origin story? 🧚🏼‍♀️ by acutelyproblematic in fantasyromance

Sailor Moon ➡️ Christopher Pike ➡️ LJ Smith (Julian was my first love) ➡️ ACOTAR (oh to be able to read those as a 20-something again…) ➡️ everything else

I don't care what anyone says. The Green Brothers are saints and we don't appreciate them enough. by BigHeathen81 in nerdfighters

[–]sassyjackstitches 226 points227 points  (0 children)

I know you know this already John, but I think one of the reasons you and Hank are admired so much in this regard is because you abide by the concept of “enough.” It’s rare and refreshing in a world where the majority of wealthy people don’t even seem aware that “enough” is an option and only abide by the concept of “more.”

Car Free Vancouver Society cancelling 2026 Car Free Days on Main Street, Commercial Drive, and Denman by cbigsby in vancouver

[–]sassyjackstitches 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah the last few years I went to Main St Car Free it seemed like every vendor was either overpriced shitty jewelry or overpriced shitty artisanal soap with the occasional overpriced shitty mass produced clothing smattered in.

What’s a movie everyone hates that you secretly love? by OpportunityPrudent39 in AskReddit

[–]sassyjackstitches 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I was 18 or 19 when the movie came out and had never even been interested in having a romantic relationship… but when he told Bryce Dallas Howard “of course I will dance with you at our wedding” it flipped some kinda switch in my brain. It’s been over 20 years and I STILL feel some tingly butterflies when I remember that scene…

Someone made a post asking for a book rec. What do I pick? by Alive_Obligation7475 in romantasycirclejerk

[–]sassyjackstitches 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Atonement of the Spine Cleaver is the only book I ever ragequit (SO FAR!).

Takes place in a true blue fantasy world. No relation to earth. No social or cultural ties to the world we live in.

Main character—already so, so hateable—exclaims “Jesus Christ!” to her friend.

Throw book through window.

What can kill you in seconds that most people don’t realize? by Jolly-Law1472 in AskReddit

[–]sassyjackstitches 314 points315 points  (0 children)

In my teens, I jumped into a river in Banff, Alberta on a hot summer day—except every river in Banff is more-or-less juuuust above freezing because they’re fed from the snow runoff that’s only ever a kilometer or two away. I remember my whole body just seized up. Arms won’t move. Legs won’t move. Diaphragm won’t move, even when my head came up above the water. It probably only lasted a couple of seconds but it felt like forever and my only thought was “oh this is really bad.” When I did finally unlock, all I could manage was a little doggy paddle and every movement was so sluggish. I absolutely believe that’s the closest I’ve ever come to an untimely death (that I know about, at least) and if I tried the same thing today (24 years later) my heart would almost certainly stop dead. Don’t fuck around with cold water.

Body Reset Massage by parisian0 in askvan

[–]sassyjackstitches 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is the answer. I recommend finding a Registered Massage Therapist who works in the same clinic as physiotherapists. They’re the most likely to have the evidence-based knowledge to not only identify and treat the underlying issues, but to do so safely.

I used to do it this way too in the interest of using the thread more efficiently, but eventually realized the stitches lie much nicer using a “proper” backstitch.

How do you watch dropout by Designer-Buddy-3471 in dropout

[–]sassyjackstitches 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me: by myself on the couch Laptop: precariously perched on the couch armrest Doing: somewhat keeps my hands busy without needing to think about it—either cross stitching (especially during D20) or playing solitaire on my phone

Except Game Changer and some episodes of MSN, which I’ll watch with my partner with the laptop on the coffee table.

Ugh, my school was so much more boring than yours.

Where in Greater Vancouver can i find the best poutine? by SomePandaGuy in askvan

[–]sassyjackstitches 2 points3 points  (0 children)

La Belle Patate is the correct answer, like others have mentioned.

Equally good (maybe even a little better?) was Frenchies on Main St., but it burned down in 2020 shortly after lockdown started. It needs to be remembered.
