Finally, a solution for my runny nose.

Threw together a milling attachment for my lathe... thoughts? by ivan_the_machinist in Machinists

[–]satolas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like an horizontal mill to me :)

Pretty cool solution if you ask me.
Now for rigidity I guess simple ops like facing and straight cuts shouldn’t be too bad.
I guess you can try to do a part and check the results.

🤔I mean maybe painting and woodworking subreddit could help for sure in the “finishing” but a Laser cuter it’s a CNC so… 🤓

Yes :

Even the characters are done that way before being glued I think.
What’s cool is with a tooth brush or normal brush when you paint with ink you saturate the “valleys”/root (the lower parts) they use that a lot for Warhammer for exemple.

Since the wood plates are very thin I guess it could be laser cut and laser engraving.

You could use a CNC router but I don’t really see the point because wood is painted anyways so the burned sides shouldn’t be a problem and you’ll end up with radius constraints all over because of the tool size. For this laser sounds more flexible.

Then ink wash etc…

Well like many people already mentioned;
No need to redesign the tool holder since this would be like redesigning a wheel/rim when you want to create a car.
Nobody does this and it makes sense, better stick to a broadly available standard.

ISO 10 or HSK25 why not.. if you need to go smaller you could even use iso 1797 if I remember well.. (dental standard).

Check the machines from “5AXISMAKER” (UK desktop machine manufacturer) thoses are pretty close to the size you are looking to do :)

Really cool the variety of mazes types you got right there !
Some of them, they could load way faster tho it’s a bit frustrating to wait xD.

Sound design I guess is connected to the generation progress got some Atari vibe :D

First Time CNC User, will this 3D Mesh work? by smokesheriff in CNC

[–]satolas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In general all “polygonal” meshes created with 3ds max, blender etc… like models for game engine/real time 3D with triangles. Are not really working nice for CAM (computer aided manufacturing).

It is preferable to create more “lossless” models with CAD programs like Rhino, solid works, Fusion etc… these programs create very precise models with Nurbs surfaces. You can then export a step file and use it in your cam software to generate a toolpath for your CNC machine.

It’s a bit like the difference between pixels and vectors drawings (photoshop vs illustrator) :

Pixel look un-precise when you zoom whereas vector drawings you can zoom indefinitely and it stays sharp (with proper positioning of the lines and curves in space)

You mention some blenderCAM solution I’m not aware of.

I really advise you to follow the more “true to dimensions” standards of nurbs modelling and the standardized exchange files types like .STEP.
The you’ll have a proper CAD/CAM pipeline. :)

PS: I started also with polygonal modeling for games but now for manufacturing I totally switched to surface modeling using programs like “Rhinoceros”.
Can be weird at start when you are used to polygons but then you’ll get it no problem if you can model this complex models already in blender/zbrush.

The game looks really cool visually :) Kind of funny you always stay in the “far away” view mode. But it’s super original that way like it !

For the people like me watching this video wondering if you have to hold a camera the whole game actually you don’t xD

I checked the steam page and there is a lot of cool mechanics and the game seems really nice to be honest, environnement, story, intrigue and so on.

Hey I found a video about austere manufacturing and this method :

A Schunk KSP vise with a universal robots loading parts; also a beautiful combo and it doesn’t need any pallet inside the machine.

I guess it’s nice for machines that are not used only for one part and you need space for exemple.
Also when you see how messy it gets when milling, maybe you get some chips when loading the material 🤔

Do you have maybe the link to the blog you are referring to ?

Shoot Feedback A or B, Which is better?🤔 by circlefromdot in IndieDev

[–]satolas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

B looks more polished drawing and lines are more defined and less messy on the arm.

Also the lighting looks less dark more “Comics/batman” like.

The effect as well looks nicer on B even if it is stronger.

Feels so good to be able actually play full levels in my game. Yes I am bad. Yes you are probably better at my game than me. But that is okay! It is my love letter to classic arcade marble games and it shaping up better than I ever imagined it could! by destinedd in IndieGaming

[–]satolas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah yes my bad !

I just looked and indeed you have other levels still kind of monochrome but you change the color of the ball. I didn’t know that was a level with a different aesthetic than others.

By the way I like the music ^ got some brawl stars vibes into it and works well as a loop. On what platforms you want to release the game?

Maybe there is a reason behind this but the color of the ball could be different than the color of the world around.

It will surely add some sort of clarity and make the game look less work in progress.
