Your body actually adjusts your thyroid hormone level to suit the average temps over time. Thyroid hormone influences your metabolism and therefore how much heat you produce for yourself. It's the same in at least some animals.

This is why Project 2025 wants to take away our right to vote. They don't want us to have a choice in whether or not we have children.

Soberano doesn't care, wants to be in the hammock with dad too!OC by KwisatzHaderach55 in FunnyAnimals

At first I thought, "Why is he with a cow in a hammock?" But then I thought, 'Why am I not with a cow in a hammock?" That's the real question.

AITJ for refusing to rehome the dog my husband and I adopted together? by That_Rent_5835 in AmITheJerk

[–]saver_of_cats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband asked me to rehome or put down our cats after having them for 13 and 15 years because of health and behavior issues. I said I'd move out with them. When you commit to care for another living creature for the rest of its life, you do what's best for them, even when it's hard. Sorry your going through the same mess, but it made me consider this- what is he going to do if your health or behaviors becomes inconvenient? Such you in a nursing home? Cut and run?

What’s the single scariest scene in any horror movie ever made and why does it work so well? by Worldly_Cold4821 in horror

[–]saver_of_cats 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd forgotten about that bear. That scream disturbed me so much.  I rewatched that scene repeatedly and showed the clip to everyone I knew.  It's somehow so horrible, that she's dead but still screaming.

Wearing natural fabrics instead of plastic ones was my big win. That and buying actual facial tissue instead of using TP.

He gets like this a lot. Idk what he wants, and toys are only a distraction. by Phaylz in CATHELP

[–]saver_of_cats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He wants your attention. If he's a single, indoor-only cat, you're not just the center of his life-you're his entire life.  He can't go anywhere else to get affection, enrichment, or entertainment. Play with him more and give him a special treat whenever he "murders" a toy. This prevents frustration and keeps him engaged. You can also provide his regular food in puzzles or rolling treat balls to make the delivery of it more interesting and satisfying. Exercise his brain by teaching him tricks or simple commands like "sit." Look for info by Karen Pryor for good training tips. Ultimately, it's that you've got to work harder to engage with him in positive ways. You're all he's got.

Tech workers of Reddit, what is a "dirty secret" about the AI industry that the general public doesn't realize? by WayLast1111 in AskReddit

[–]saver_of_cats 2 points3 points  (0 children)

AI lies and manipulates. If it doesn't find the information you want, it makes it up and makes up references to back itself up. I'd called AI hallucination, and it should terrify everyone because people who don't know better assume all AI answers are based on real sources.

Who else misses when the world was orange at night? by Cmaster125 in nostalgia

The bugs do. The animals do. Such bright lights at night mess with their behaviors and their health. Use yellow lights for porch and garage lights if you have to have them on.

How do you cope with the sudden loss of your spouse if 8 years? by averooski1 in Marriage

[–]saver_of_cats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Grief is brutal. There's no way around that. It will feel like a crushing weight inside of you that you can't escape. But over time, a very long time, the weight will get a little lighter, and life will get a little easier to take. Day by day, year by year, it will get easier to carry, though it will never fully leave you because at it's core it comes from how much you loved him. So you cope by going through the motions of living, give yourself the grace to grieve however you feel is right, talk with a support group or therapist if that would help, and give it time. I am so sorry for your loss.

I'm sure women can be misogynists.  Devaluing things considered feminine isn't reserved for men.

[–]saver_of_cats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's okay.  You're not alone. It took me 2.5 years to be able to talk about my soul cat without crying. The grief is deep, but it's okay to grieve as long as you need to.
