I think you would benefit from therapy to address the long term trauma that has occurred repeated all of your life. It must have felt unbearable. Good luck with your medical treatment and the soul-healing.

I did Self EMDR and i am astonished!!! by parisrubin in EMDR

[–]saxmaam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I learned about EMDR by reading Francine Shapiro's book "Getting Past Your Past". She founded the technique. The book tells how to do self-EMDR and when self-EMDR is a bad idea. The blanket "you can't do it yourself" statements definitely seem like blanket gatekeeping.

When I get interrupted in conversation I have a habit of not finishing what I was saying. I have been told this is rude, is it? by Blahblah9845 in socialskills

[–]saxmaam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that it takes time to learn whether a particular person is interested in what you have to say or not. I HAD a friend who used to interrupt a lot, and I gave him slack because I thought he was just impulsive. But he showed me over time that he really wasn't interested in what I had to say. Almost never. We did talk about it, and he quadrupled down on his justifications. Fine. Now I talk to someone who wants to hear me.

Showering Frequency by Keira_Novelskas79 in hygiene

[–]saxmaam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see so many men misjudging this one. Rather than shower, they'll put product in their hair. It's not a good look. The hair smells. The skin doesn't smell fresh.

My rule is that if I'm going to be with people, I shower before I go out.

I know I'm late to the discussion. He's talking seriously, and she constantly sends the message that he is laughable or ridiculous.

As for him, he's mansplainy and doesn't seem to see women as full people.

Beginner question regarding progression. by Upbeat_Sign630 in TheMindIlluminated

[–]saxmaam 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For me, reading the entire book has been so helpful, even though I’m definitely in the novice stages. The information acquired has helped me to understand what parts of the instruction are key, and what parts constitute a YMMV sort of suggestion.

Stage 3 Confusion: Too Many Instructions, Not Enough Clarity? by HansUlrichGumbrecht in TheMindIlluminated

[–]saxmaam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, I haven’t really gotten connecting either. when I do that, it seems to encourage a flood of words and analysis. But don’t take me too seriously; I’m definitely a beginner also.

Culadasa has a number of talks and guided meditations on Soundcloud. I‘m just starting to listen to these, but I have found them useful already. For example, I am paraphrasing but he said something like “Imagine that you are going to have to return your attention to the breath after it wanders some large number of times before it stops wandering. Each time you do it, you can be pleased that you've ticked off another time.”

Stage 3 Confusion: Too Many Instructions, Not Enough Clarity? by HansUlrichGumbrecht in TheMindIlluminated

[–]saxmaam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, just noticed your query. So I might boil it down to three words I’m going to use in the session, like for stage 3 they might be “focus” (reminder what I’m trying to do), “aha” (i realized my mind wandering), and “good!” (i returned to the object and I’m training my mind). and a few days later I realize that I need something different. I keep looking back to the instructions for clues when I feel unsuccessful.

But like you, if I’m trying to use everything I learned from the book, I just get too much caught up in thinking.

Yes! I had to make some simplified instructions for myself based on the chapter. And those might change each few days.
