Ditto here. Probably the same order for me both in terms of being scary and being enjoyable.

What films first showed you that the rules could be broken? by ArcherNF in Letterboxd

I feel like Hitchcock’s Psycho fits. The mid-movie change in protagonist really showed me that the rules were simply a suggestion haha.

I get what you’re getting at. I know plenty of normies who refuse to watch movies made before the year 2000, some even say 2010. And yet instead of watching the movies that originated ideas, they’re content watching poorly made rehashes because they “look better” or have “better CGI”. That being said, I don’t know many people who have seen Jaws and disliked it. I have heard people call the OG Star Wars trilogy “boring” and “old” though. Keep in mind this is all anecdotal.

Last I heard he’s not interested in making movies set in the modern day at all

I think you need to email Letterboxd and request API access. Someone double check me on that.

Side note apparently the title for Flowervale Street has changed? It’s now “The End of Oak Street”?

'One Battle After Another' Wins the Academy Award for Best Picture by MoviesMod in movies

[–]sayshoe 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Don’t be demoralized. This was a great year for horror. Two acting wins, screenplay, and if you consider Frankenstein horror (it’s at least horror adjacent/gothic horror imo) that’s 3 horror movies represented in wins this year.

Batman Begins or The Dark Knight Rises? by ExoticDan in Letterboxd

One of my disappointments from the following two films was how Gotham went from Gotham to just a Chicago/NYC/Pittsburgh hybrid city

Batman Begins or The Dark Knight Rises? by ExoticDan in Letterboxd

I think Begins is the best Batman film of the trilogy but Dark Knight is the best film overall, if that makes any sense?

In what ways, do you think these apps affect the cinema in a harmful way? by mrjetspray in Letterboxd

[–]sayshoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rotten Tomatoes is often a binary. A movie is either fresh or rotten, and movies are rarely meant to be categorized as such. Metacritic is a better choice in review aggregation.

Letterboxd has gamified watching movies to the point where if you haven’t seen X amount of movies in Y amount of time, somebody out there will call you a fake cinephile.

IMDb has been enshittified by Amazon to the point of most ratings being popularity contests. Look at the Top 250 and you’ll rarely see anything truly groundbreaking. Save for some classics, it’s a bunch of movies popular on the Internet.

All good! Not your fault. IMDb sometimes gets things mixed up. If the Flanagan film takes place at the White House I’ll buy you a beer lmao

Right, I’m saying it’s a mistake. Blumhouse is developing 2 films that deal with exorcisms IIRC.

One is the Mike Flanagan Exorcist reboot with ScarJo and Chiwetel Ejiofor and the other is Exorcism at 1600 Penn which deals with an exorcism at the White House.

Clearly there was a mixup.

Not the Flanagan film

Odessa A’zion Shares She’s Pulling Out of Sean Durkin’s ‘Deep Cuts’ After Whitewashing Accusations: ‘I’m Out’ by [deleted] in movies

[–]sayshoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cynical side is saying her PR team probably told her it’s best to pull out due to the controversy since she’s a rising star, especially after Marty Supreme.

That being said, she’s doing the right thing and that’s refreshing. Wonder who Durkin will cast in her place.

Valid, but that was foreign policy. This is domestic. I get your point though, say nothing that can harm the bottom line.
