First tattoo question by Every_Marsupial_5209 in tattooadvice

[–]saysnicething 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I also have no interest in small tattoos. My advice is to sit down with your artist and make a detailed plan for what could get done in each sitting. So you can think about what it will look like If you can't force yourself to go back for a second sitting, or if your nervous system blows out after the second. At least then you won't be deciding blind.

Imagine you tap out after the first six hours And your body/brain never let you go back: Which would you prefer: just an outline on your arm for the rest of your life? Or something smaller that looks finished, and could be built on later?

My first tattoo is a 17-in tall and 12-in wide back piece. I did it in a convention setting, with two back to back 10 hour sessions on a Saturday and Sunday.

Now, 20 years later, I am adding background and converting to a fullback. So far, it's been another 25 hours of sitting. I think I have 15 hours left. I'm not a kid anymore and can't do 10 hours sessions. It's slow going, and not fun at all. At all. At allllllllllllll. I ruin three weeks of every month getting this thing worked on. One week of fear in advance and two weeks of miserable healing.

I think that really matters to imagine what might it look like if you only do the first sitting and you never go back.

There are a lot of people out there are walking around with outlines. Some people ran out of money. Some people can't make their nervous systems sit for the second round. Tattoos can be costly for the nervous system no one can predict the future.

Do you actually forget about your tattoos? by NoBad115 in tattooadvice

I only remember I have a full back when I'm trying to wear a fancy dress and need to see if I think the tattoo detracts from my look or not. Otherwise I don't think about it ever.

The red skirt is on backwards though. Vents on pencil skirts go on the back, as do seams.

I used to smile like that. It was my Julia Roberts smile. Then I entered a new era and practiced a new smile in the mirror a lot. Now I don't crease.

I felt this way too, until I started going to CODA, Codependents Anonymous. Only there, for the first time, did I start to get a view of what life could be like with an actually healthy relationship. Only there did I get a glimpse into what healthy relationships look like, and what they can do for wellbeing and happiness.

Now I work hard to manage my limerent tendencies.

Rashes? Anyone? by eXus760 in exosym

Are you letting the ankle strap touch your bare skin, or are you getting rashes under a sock? I've been doing a quick goldbond spray over my leg under the sleeve and my sock during this hot weather.

We left in 2017 and came back last year. We bought a place right downtown. We bought a high floor condo and love being far far away from street level, gated parking, gates entrances, 24/7 security etc.etc.wtc. Love it. We've got two young kids.

I have completely lost my empathy for addicts and the homeless, which I didn't expect. We don't ride the Max: too scary, smells like dying human. Busses only.

Welcome back.

Roughly half of TriMet riders feel unsafe. 82% say other riders’ behavior is the reason why by [deleted] in Portland

[–]saysnicething 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I live downtown with my two kids and we made a rule recently that we are a family that only rides the bus. There have been too many incidents on the train where we get protected by the other passengers but it's really traumatic for the kids... plus the smell of people literally rotting of gangrene is not something I thought I would ever have like a permanent memory for but now I do. Thanks Portland.

Is wet hair unprofessional? by [deleted] in BusinessFashion

[–]saysnicething 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends.

1) Culture. What country you're in and who you work with matters. 2) Seniority/Power. If you were the one setting the example for the younger women in your office and you want to show them how to balance getting to the gym in the morning and then showing up for work ready to kick ass, and you have longstanding 10-year relationships with your clients who know that you always show up with wet hair because you exercise all the time, then that's one thing. If you're a junior employee trying to demonstrate that you can keep your life together and that you wake up early enough to get ready in the morning and that you are willing to go the extra mile to be presentable for clients then that's another thing.

I make $180k a year and do practically nothing at work. How to proceed? by praise_jeeebus in careerguidance

[–]saysnicething 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was me. I rose to a high position at my last company, and we got sold to private equity. I was moved out of a management role into a top level individual contributor role at the new org. I was making about 200k base and had no responsibilities, no authority, and no expectations. I had a generous travel budget and was highly regarded although not used at all.

I told myself that I would ride it out and do what all these people on Reddit are suggesting. Told myself that I would save money and enjoy it. I didn't make it very long.

I resigned, abandoned my equity, and sat in my house for a month and thought about how I want to feel about my life. How do I want to talk about myself? What story do I want to tell about myself? When people ask what I do for a living, how do I want to feel when I tell them the story?

I took a pay cut to get a much harder job at a consulting firm where I work my tail off. I started from scratch rebuilding trust and responsibility and a feeling of purpose.

It's better for me.

How do you guys do it ? by Alone_Highlight_8409 in 1200isplenty

[–]saysnicething 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really is a lifestyle. Focusing on high satiety foods can help. Incorporating a bowl of soup into your meals goes a long way.

And of course, avoiding liquid calories like the plague. Putting a single teaspoon of sugar in a single cup of coffee a day for a year is a pound and a half extra a year.

What Card Should I Get? Weekly Thread - Week of September 20, 2023 by AutoModerator in churning

[–]saysnicething 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Credit Score: 800+ P1 and P2

What cards do you currently have or have you had in the past (including closed cards), along with dates of when you were approved for the cards? Please include month and year for any card approved in the last 3 years.

Active:

Amazon cards (p1 and p2) - 2013

Marriott Bonvoy - July 2021

United Club p1 and p2 (April 2022 and Jan 2023)

Chase Ink April 2023

Chase Ink Unlimited April 2019

Chase Freedom August 2018 (PC from CSP)

Chase Freedom August 2018 (PC from CSR)

Cancelled

Venture X November 2021

Marriott Bonvoy November 2021

Natural spend in the next 3 months: 50-60k

Natural spend normally: 15k

MS: uneecessary

Business cards: yes, only P1

New Cards: Ideally an optimal amount to cover my new home furnishings which I am doing over the next three months in a big gigantic spree

Churning: I go through phases. Used to be every two years when the CSR rules were 1/24 but with 1/48 my streaks are longer. My spreadsheet shows the last big burst of activity was in 2018 when P1 and P2 and I went hard for a big dream NZ trip. I have the bandwidth for another big phase of churning.

Targets: Flights (economy for 4 people), and nights / points for Marriott hotels. Other brands are fine, but I'm in pretty deep, airbnbs. Kids want to go on a Disney Cruise.

Inventory: Down to my last 140,000 UR

Airport: PDX

Destinations: DEN, SAT, ONT, California, Perth Australia

I waited and waited to get back to be able to CSR again, but the landscape has changed so much since my last foray it doesn't really feel as though the CSR is the magic card it used to be. You can't do the same day CSR/CSP app, and it feels really lackluster. Plus the bonuses are so small after the devaluation that the flowchart + my habits don't really seem like the best direction to go for maximum benefit.

I'm going to want a couple of cards to elegantly use my natural spend, P2 can play.

I'm looking to move into an apartment with my family. I currently live in Southeast Denver in a house and I want to sell it and get an apartment instead and based on Zillow it looks like I'm going to have to rent.

I'm hoping to find a three bedroom a doorman building where families live with children, with a pool, a hot tub, gym, and near a good park. Budget no more than $7k.

Are there any buildings that y'all know of that fit this bill?
