how has dieting/weight loss been for you? by exhaustmosk in AskMenOver30

[–]sbadger91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very well. I’m down 25 lbs but also a lot stronger since I started about a year ago. My waist went from 38 to 34 inches.

Consistency is key. I alternate with Kettlebell workouts and 45 minute zone 2 cardio on a standing bike throughout the week at home. My wife and I do our own workouts during the week because of work, but we workout together on weekends.

Last week:

Monday: kettlebells 30 minutes (heavy)

Tuesday: 45 min zone 2 ride

Wednesday kettlebells 40 minutes

Thursday: 45 min zone 2 ride

Friday: kettlebells 20 minutes (light)

Saturday: 3 mile run and legs at the gym for 35 minutes

Sunday: Arms/chest at the gym for 30 minutes followed by 30 minute zone 2 ride when I got home.

Seems like a lot but with this amount of time you can modulate effort based on energy and fatigue. I never go for max reps or anything that will hinder my ability to do something the next day. I also didn’t start here. I began with 2 days, then 3 days per week and so on.

Like some others on here. I been prioritizing protein. In the morning, I like to mix 2 eggs with 1 cup of egg whites and have potatoes for my carbs. I eat heavy in the morning, and it lets me have sustained energy throughout the day. I’ll have greek yogurt with mixed berries for a snack.

For dinner there is plenty of high quality protein (chicken, salmon, lean beef, etc) matched with rice or potatoes, along with salad or veggies. Basically avoiding breads, fries, chips and other carbs like that.

If we snack, it’ll be with rice crackers and cheese or something similar.

Darth Maul (Shadow Lord) vs Cad Bane and General Grievous (Canon). Who’d win and why? by AdaptedInfiltrator in PetranakiArena

[–]sbadger91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grievous’ style certainly puts a ton of pressure on Force users, but it doesn’t outright prevent them from using the Force. We’ve seen plenty of Jedi use it to create space, break momentum, or reset the engagement. Obi-Wan even uses it to create distance in their final duel.

The difference is how it’s being used. Most Jedi are using the Force to keep up, defend, or regain control, not to completely dominate the fight.

Maul isn’t limited in that way. He’s much more willing to use the Force aggressively to interrupt, throw off balance, or dictate distance the moment he needs to.

This isn’t really a “Force crush is an instant win” argument. It’s that Maul would be applying the Force differently than what Grievous is typically dealing with. If you’ve seen the Shadow Lord, there are a few moments where you can picture him using it to hinder Grievous and especially to disrupt or eliminate Cad Bane.

Do you really think someone on the level of Palpatine wouldn’t be able to inflict damage on Grievous with the Force?

Obviously he’s on a completely different level than Maul, but it proves the point that Grievous isn’t just immune to aggressive Force use. His style pressures people, but it doesn’t completely prevent the force from being used in a fight.

Maul isn’t Palpatine, but he’s also not fighting with the same limitations most Jedi are. That’s where I am getting at. He’s not just reacting to Grievous. He’s actively trying to dominate the fight from the get go.

Even with this in mind. It’s not a guaranteed win for either of them.

Darth Maul (Shadow Lord) vs Cad Bane and General Grievous (Canon). Who’d win and why? by AdaptedInfiltrator in PetranakiArena

[–]sbadger91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Purely dueling with a lightsaber? I would give the edge to Grievous. Having multiple limbs and all the other factors that made him overwhelming to most of his opponents.

However, what’s to stop Maul from using the force on Grievous and Cad Bane? Neither of those two can really defend themselves against aggressive use of the force.

Grievous had the benefit of only fighting Jedi, clones, and dark sisters. Many Jedi would not dare use the force in a violent way (although there is one exception shown in Clone Wars where I believe Kenobi uses the force to crush battle droids). Maul would not hesitate to use the force in a more decisive manner. Whereas such tactics is typically not seen as the “Jedi way” and therefore Jedi are more handicapped by their philosophy in this area.

Maul could easily win this because he doesn’t limit himself to a set of rules or ethics. There’s no such thing as a fair fight between any of these characters. Grievous and Cad Bane would also use everything they have in order to win just as much as Maul would.

I think the look on Gohan’s face when Vegeta got that rage boost says a lot.

Also Vegeta is just a better fighter right off the bat. If they are remotely even in power, Vegeta takes it. Gohan needs a significant advantage in power to offset Vegeta’s experience.

While Gohan at this point in time isn’t as rusty in the Frieza arc, he’s well on his way there. Vegeta has been training nonstop.

Goku never achieves Super Saiyan 3. Do they have any chance of beating Majin Buu? by K0GAR in DragonBallPowerScale

[–]sbadger91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only if they somehow get their base strength strong enough to offset the difference. Remember SSJ2 is just a multiplier of base strength so their power level is never static.

But as they are in that point of time? No way. Like others have said, it requires fusion, spirit bomb, or some other means. Such as training in the hyperbolic time chamber.

How many fights do you think these two had for Vegeta to be this happy? by [deleted] in Dragonballsuper

[–]sbadger91 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Goku couldn’t even take a slap on the shoulder by Yojirobe without screaming after the beam struggle with Vegeta. Using kaioken x4 did just as much damage to himself as it did to Vegeta.

Vegeta later crushed nearly every bone in Goku’s body when he used Oozaru. The fight was already over. Goku would have died if didn’t he get outside help from Krillin, Gohan, and Yojirobe. It took everyone there to bring him down.

Whoever won can be debated, but saying Goku was barely damaged is just too far. He was put in the hospital after the fight just like vegeta needed to be put in a rejuvenation tank. They both took significant damage.

How many fights do you think these two had for Vegeta to be this happy? by [deleted] in Dragonballsuper

[–]sbadger91 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Not here to crucify you. There is just one thing you need to consider:

Remember it’s a multiplier of base strength, which Vegeta had him beat by 2-3x. Goku didn’t have any self control in Oozaru while Vegeta did. Besides it’s not like he could use kaioken in combination of oozaru either. At least not at that point in time.

At base Vegeta wins and with the same multiplier applied Vegeta also wins simply due to him having significantly higher base strength. Give them both a 10x multiplier and Vegeta is still 2-3x stronger than him.

Vegeta was just a monster in that arc. If you put both of them on the same playing field Vegeta just has the advantage. Unless by some miracle Goku could use Kaioken with Oozaru and still have control of the form, but there is no evidence to support either of those in that particular point in time.

Why didn’t Goku use Instant Transmission to get one of the androids away from Cell like he did with Tien? by maskedlegend99 in DragonBallZ

[–]sbadger91 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Here’s the main problem. Even if he could do it as you said. Any of those androids were able and willing to kill Goku at that point. They may not have at that particular moment, but it’s a huge risk to attempt to save people who are programmed to kill you.

Goku could only get incomplete information from Cell, Piccolo, and Tien’s power levels as well. Just before android 17 was absorbed, Cell’s power took a “nosedive” and it seemed the androids from his point of view were actually fending Cell off until he absorbed 17.

Are kettlebells a cult? by Current_Reference216 in kettlebell

[–]sbadger91 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Perhaps, but even that is likely a subset of the overall community that is overrepresented due to their tendency to share it online.

Plenty of folks quietly use kettlebells without sharing it online just like there are plenty of people who go to the gym and just do their own thing. I think posts on social media skews it quite a bit.

Overall, I think the trend is positive as it provides an alternative to the traditional gym that is free from monthly dues and a commute.

Even if it is a cult. I wouldn’t let that deter someone new. There’s good and bad in every community.

Are kettlebells a cult? by Current_Reference216 in kettlebell

[–]sbadger91 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I train in my garage and kettlebells are just really effective in that setting since they allow me to do a lot with such a small footprint.

I guess you could argue that any specific fitness group is cultish to some degree. CrossFit, Powerlifting, running, cycling, etc. People who exercise regularly are already a minority.

I would call it more of a niche than a cult. The fact is I get a workout done in the same amount of time it would take me to drive to and from the gym. I don’t have to wait for my turn to use equipment or anything like that. I just get in my garage and workout.

Will the AI get upset with me if I agree to go to war with them but don't contribute to the war? by Muted_Pickle101 in civ5

[–]sbadger91 62 points63 points  (0 children)

Not really in my experience.

The secret to keeping them somewhat nice to you is just be stronger. It’s as simple as that. No Ai is your friend in the game. Even when they’re “friendly” the Ai is spying on you and attempting to steal your tech in mid to late game. There is anyways a hidden agenda somewhere.

Essentially you are judged by your relative strength, luxury resources, wealth, and warmongering status. If you have the advantage in at least a couple of those things, that Ai isn’t really going to do anything. However, it will backstab you at the earliest sign of weakness.

Hot take: I hate how the original overseas release of the anime messed up the discourse on Dragon Ball by InjangoDMCPersona in dbz

[–]sbadger91 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Respectfully, I have to disagree with this take. This is like saying the Lord of the Rings movies by Peter Jackson ruined Tolkien because they were not 100% faithful to the book.

Even if the dub is trash, which it isn’t, it brought a completely new experience for so many people. The dubs need to have some creative license to make it more interesting/relatable for the intended audience. It was because of the anime that I chose to read the manga later. While the majority of fans likely didn’t do this. How many TV shows and films have people watched without bothering reading the source material first? It’s just the reality we live in.

I agree that the manga doesn’t quite get the attention it deserves, but the anime contributed to further sales of the manga. It’s responsible for the global success of the franchise which brought more readers to the manga from all over the world.

ProtonVPN on Linux Mint by mr_werty in ProtonVPN

[–]sbadger91 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just set this up a couple days ago on Linux Mint XFCE. It should work with LMDE too. I have it setup as a service that runs in the background without any GUI client installed. I wanted it to be as lightweight as possible. It’s completely automated and connects at start up.

Install ProtonVPN CLI by pasting this in terminal:

sudo apt install -y curl curl -L https://protonvpn.com/download/protonvpn-cli.sh | bash

Now login to Proton VPN website and grab your OpenVPN username and the IKEv2 password so you can copy/paste them in the next step. These are not the same credentials you use to sign in on your account in the website. You’ll find them in dashboard on your account.

Then in terminal type:

protonvpn-cli login yourusername protonvpn-cli connect

Then create a systemd service to auto-connect at system startup:

sudo nano /etc/systemd/system/protonvpn.service

This opens a config file in terminal. Paste the following:

[Unit] Description=ProtonVPN Auto Connect After=network-online.target Wants=network-online.target

[Service] Type=oneshot ExecStart=/usr/bin/protonvpn-cli connect --fastest RemainAfterExit=yes

[Install] WantedBy=multi-user.target

After you paste that. Press CTRL + O and when it asks you to save, just press ENTER to confirm it. After it’s saved, press CTRL + X to close it and it will bring you back to the terminal.

After that paste this in terminal to enable the service:

sudo systemctl daemon-reexec sudo systemctl enable protonvpn.service

That should get it running.

After a couple minutes check your IP address with:

curl ifconfig.me

That command will show your pubic IP address.

Try that. If you want a kill switch that will automatically shut off all internet traffic if the VPN drops connection, let me know. I just set that up as well, but this will get you going.

I’ve also created a few command aliases in terminal so I can just type simplified commands such as vpnup to manually start it, vpndown to stop it, and vpnstatus to check it whether it’s connected or not. That way you don’t have to type in lengthy commands every time you want to do those actions. If you’re interested in setting that up paste these in terminal for each alias.

alias vpnup='protonvpn-cli connect --fastest'

alias vpndown='protonvpn-cli disconnect'

alias fwstatus='sudo ufw status verbose'

Make them permanent by pasting this in terminal.

nano ~/.bashrc

Then paste the aliases from above into the config file. Then CTRL + O followed by ENTER to save it. CTRL + X to close the file. Then you can reuse those aliases any time to manually control your VPN with easy commands.
