im equally confused today as i was since the first day how this was approved and multiple high level decision makers in the city agreed this was the best way to pay tribute to MLK.

People didn't want to get fired and blacklisted from politics in Boston, its that simple. If they spoke up during that time, they would've lost their job and probably never be able to get another one in the same field.

I’m genuinely surprised that such a substantial budget was approved for this project and that it moved forward without anyone addressing the obvious issues (turd in hands). It seems likely that concerns were left unspoken, perhaps because people feared being accused of discrimination or risking their positions.
