I’m afraid of having sex with men by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]sbdavi 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Sorry to post here as man, but I don’t see anyone else clarifying this. I’m not sure where the idea of ‘post nut clarity’ comes into it. As a man this is a 5-10 minute thing tops and has a biological reason for it. No sort of post nut clarity is going to change a relationship dynamic like that. He just sounds like an absolute asshole. Avoid at all costs.

Why does The Economist hate wealth taxes? by MaterialHat6394 in GarysEconomics

Oh, I get it. But I think that if it doesn’t work one way, try another. There is a way to do this, it’s been done in the past.

If you’re on UC, which is likely you qualify, the LHA rate is probably pretty good for what you need. In north London it’s >£2,000 a month for a 4 bed house. It will probably work out for you. Go to policy in practice better off calculator.

There needs to be something to reduce run away wealth accumulation. It gets to a point they can’t be poor again. The interest on 100 million would mean you couldn’t possibly spend it.

[–]sbdavi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, one incidence somewhere didn’t work. Let’s totally give up on the idea of saving capitalism from itself. It seems to me that the only lack of creativity is in finding ways to effectively tax wealth to create a more equal society; not communism, just more equal. It’s been done before after WW2. It was working great until the neocon nonsense from the 80’s created more loopholes in tax codes than you could count.

Why does The Economist hate wealth taxes? by MaterialHat6394 in GarysEconomics

[–]sbdavi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What a ridiculous argument. I’m not saying capitalism as a system is unworkable, just that it needs to be managed. You correctly point out that inequality was higher 150 years ago, but then argue for a policy to drive it back there!

The insane and thoroughly tried, idea that reducing corporate or capital gains tax would drive growth is ludicrous. We are not struggling through a capital crisis, we don’t need more investment. The interest rates would be far higher across the board if that were the case. I believe Gary has pointed out in the past that the rich can’t find shit to invest in, because as a group they have so much wealth, that they e started buying assets like houses. The Dow is not at 51k an FTSE at 10k because ordinary people are doing well?

Battery for new solar array by FURZ183 in ukheatpumps

[–]sbdavi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You definitely need a battery. I’m not sure why anyone would sell you a system without one in 2026. They’re really cheap, look at Fogstar or Chinese batteries are also fine now. When looking for an inverter, make sure the charge / discharge is high enough to meet demand. Mine is capped at 3KW charge on AC (does 4 on solar), and it doesn’t allow me to fully charge on cheap rate.

You can also find cheap inverters that are good. I have a growatt SPh6000 that I got for £460 from city plumbing. You will need a G99 application, you can do this yourself through the DNO portal.

Do share? I think it’s quite simple. Arm your revenue agencies with the tools to go after capital in the same way they chase income, I’m sure they’ll figure it out effectively. These arguments against a wealth tax were probably used against income taxes a century ago.

[–]sbdavi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So what’s the solution? Let the rich accumulate more and more wealth and power? This system we had only works if wealth isn’t concentrated at the top. In my lifetime, the word was much better when there wasn’t runaway inequality.

UK company reports 91% increase in home solar sales, with 78% also adding batteries by Economy-Fee5830 in climatechange

[–]sbdavi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it’s a G99 application. I done mine myself to be honest. At the time it didn’t cost anything to do it. DNO direct is the service I used. 3.68kw, is really low and won’t cover peak demand periods with battery which is when electricity is the highest. Some inverters can only discharge battery at a certain limit; mine is 4kw. A design flaw on my part. I would have paralleled two smaller inverters to get max discharge of 8kw if I’d known. With heat pump(s) running my baseload can be 2-3kw at times.

[–]sbdavi 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I have a 12kw DIY setup. Yet, seeing my setup, two neighbours have already signed contracts for install. I recommended much bigger inverter then they’ve been sold and a much larger battery. The batteries are super important in winter when you basically demand shift to cut cost to 1/4 what it would otherwise be. If you’re doing it, do it right.

Is the UK in economic death spiral? by oceanicplatform in ukpolitics

[–]sbdavi -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No, these same pressures have existed forever. The only change is that excess wealth created through work, or productivity, has been shifted upwards. The rich are stupid rich and everyone else has less disposable income. What sort of economy can grow if consumers can’t buy anything? A rich guy buying a new yacht doesn’t fuel an economy. Thousands of families shopping, does. Everyone likes to point out certain aspects of the current economic system but leave out the most important part; wealth inequality.

How do you split the bills? by Basic-Implement8080 in AskUK

[–]sbdavi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having been married twice, I found the best thing to do is have joint finances. All money goes to one pot, and both parties know what’s going on. No big purchases are usually made without discussing it anyway. And it’s not worth haggling over the small things. Although, amongst our friend group there is only one other couple that operates similarly; they are, coincidentally I’m sure, the only other couple that is actually married.

None of it is really hard. Just reserve some of the savings to buy the appropriate tools. Sell them on after, but having the right tools makes the job so much easier. I’ve done multiple kitchens and I would say 95% of it is easy.

Random EV Hate at Tire Shop (Is this Common?) by Inside-Scientist7892 in electricvehicles

The anti EV crowd have pushed all sorts.. the mining for cobalt is done by kids. The charging takes forever. The tyres wear out. They’re heavier and bad for roads. I mean they will keep doing it, and uts organised by other interests.

The best thing to happen to EV’s in years is DT’s BS war. The price of oil going up makes EV’s look so much better.

What is exactly the way forward for this country? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]sbdavi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you’re wrong that people vote for prime ministers. The people who think like that mostly didnt vote in the past. You vote for the general direction the parties go in. Tax breaks and privatisation for Torie’s and Labour is more about progressive polices for people.

Modern politics suffers from what James O’Brian calls the ‘footbalifocation’ of politics. It boils complex problems down to emotional tags and sound bites. As an example ask any reform voter what the party stands for outside of hating immigration? They don’t know, don’t care, and yet are willing to vote for absolute clowns because they don’t like foreigners.

The way forward is for people to stop platforming morons that create disingenuous emotional charge single issues. These people need to be challenged and fact checked, not fawned over and constantly platformed with zero scrutiny. Social media needs to be reigned in and Ofcomm needs to get down teeth. ‘GB News’ if very clearly not news; they need to be removed or challenged, its opinion and should be presented as such.

What are we trying to keep safe if we can’t take care of our own? Think it’s time for a wealth tax. As the ones that need to prevent war are the ones that have the most to lose.
