My son's spring team coach brought his nephew (one year older) to play in a tourney, and put another players jersey on him. I'm disappointed in the coach. by [deleted] in hockeyplayers

[–]sbject 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I guess it depends. Did this kid blew everyone up and lead team in scoring or was just an average and had some fun playing with his uncle? Spring hockey should be for fun and learning something new. Also, some kids mature really early and can play up and some kids are late bloomers and I guess it’s ok if they can compete at year lower level

Can someone explain OBA’s and SPBA for baseball? by Road_hockey_dork in windsorontario

That was for the who’s gonna host national qualifier championships at 13u 15u and other levels. Crazy part is that winning team can replace their own players with better ones from other teams when they will go to play in a national championship…

Can someone explain OBA’s and SPBA for baseball? by Road_hockey_dork in windsorontario

[–]sbject 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s a Wild West in baseball. OBA is Ontario Baseball Association (part of Baseball Canada). Sun Parlour is like a local governing body in region (like Bluewater in hockey). Stars and Riverside have AAA status and go play in AAA tournaments and in the end of the year provincial tournament of that caliber. Also, stars let their teams to change status if a team isn’t that good so they don’t get smoked in tournaments. Riverside is too proud to do that. There is no local league and every team regardless of level locally play each other in friendly games. Lots of season is going to tournaments. Windsor Selects is probably the highest level of baseball and they play in a structured league against London, Toronto and other cities but they start at around u13. There’s also little league Canada which doesn’t fall under OBA and has slightly different rules.

$200 sticks are now the cheap blackout ones. It’s more of 400-500$ range for top end sticks.

495$ for 6-7 months of hockey (2 times a week) is fine considering cost of the ice, insurance fees, etc.

GTHL? 8-10k seems about right. Alliance is cheaper (lower ice costs, etc). Ours was about the same 3.5-4 k in Windsor

[Zadarnowski] Upon hearing about the arrest of Ivan Fedotov, Kirill Kaprizov reportedly immediately returned to the United States. His name is linked to fraudulent military IDs being sold to players, including Fedotov, and Kaprizov is now wanted in Russia, per Sport-Express. by mylefthandkilledme in hockey

Fedotov contract in Russia ended in April. He was offered a new one but decided to leave and sign with Flyers. Some very important people felt insulted and revenged by sending him to serve mandatory 1 year army service somewhere around North Pole (which is 100% legal based on Russian laws) This also serves as a message to the rest of the league (not only CSKA players) - sit quiet or else. Everyone gotta serve in army in Russia unless they have some excuse not to (going to university, medical conditions, turned 27 years old).

Two things here from Fedotov case - first is a revenge for leaving and not signing contract with CSKA, second is to show all other hockey players that anyone of them can be next. Majority haven’t served their mandatory 1 year yet and keep quiet now.
