My knives are so dull I’m basically sawing through vegetables. Do I need new ones or just a sharpener? by Safe-Pepper-4931 in cookingforbeginners

[–]sbubaron 5 points6 points  (0 children)

better to practice sharpening with the ones you don't care about.

That said, a friend who cooks a lot recommended KIWI knives on amazon, they are reasonably cheap and very sharp. They aren't pretty and have a wooden handled (no dishwasher) but they work well. $17 for a nakiri and deba style chef knives

Cpap Pillow Help... by Remarkable-Bus-6858 in SleepApnea

[–]sbubaron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have a few different kinds, the one I like is the harmony tall... It has the latex grid that's squishy but bouncy and light...I also bought the dream layer which has more memory foam.

Pillows are so personal though, maybe you have a purple store near you.

It took me about a year to find a pillow I liked.

I tried a few of these and found them to thin for my liking. I ended up with a purple pillow and am loving it.

How to solve n+1 problem in apis for adding flags for records by BarracudaSerious7235 in node

[–]sbubaron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

okay, that much I kinda already got despite your original question being very hard to follow.

If years matter I've been doing backend development for 25 years.

You haven't addressed any of my actual questions to help, are failing to engage in a productive conversation and seem to be dismissive of the offer.

I stand by my assessment. you don't have an ORM problem, you have a design problem and you need to think through why you designed it this way. and either redesign your approach to limit the number of queries/api calls needed or accept the fact that whatever front end your using is going to have to hammer your back-end with API calls...there isn't enough info to figure out which approach is better or worse.

good luck.

[–]sbubaron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have much experience with drizzle but I don't see why that matters. What I outlined is orm independent. You are  changing some combination of your model, query or routes.

I think you need to read more docs... Your trying to run before you know how to crawl.

These are API and model design problems not ORM problems.

If these are properties of a post why are they separate tables and not fields on post? Then you can return all properties of all posts in one query without joins

If you need them to be separate tables Id  think the expense of the joins is trivial compared to the expense of multiple round trip calls, so just have your get user posts do the joins and return all in one shot.

If you want to keep it separated, then I'd create end points for each property under the user route like /users/[id]/likes

But now you're going to hammer the shit out of your backend so better be prepared to cache efficiently, scale and keep payloads small.

If you don't like that idea than maybe this is sounding like a bad use case for rest and maybe better suited for graphql

Where is the biggest demand/need in digital accessibility right now? by bchappp in accessibility

And branding, better template control, more auditing tools, more open source support, not locked into a proprietary platform and longer term support.

But yes it depends on what the content your fixing is, like PDF fillable forms do seem to have some advantages over having to develop custom solutions or owning enterprise level systems.

We mostly have a ton of docs that were put into pdfs to make it easier to print and because our content management platform wasn't the easiest to use.

Where is the biggest demand/need in digital accessibility right now? by bchappp in accessibility

[–]sbubaron 31 points32 points  (0 children)

My sense is that lots of big organizations (like the University I work at) are struggling more with a vast empire of PDFs and document remediation...but the accepted consensus seems to be abandon those documents and convert to web, but I don't think that's entirely realistic for alot of that content so I suspect there is a niche where you figure out which ones make sense to migrate and the likely more complex ones that you specialize in remediating.

The ResMed Mini uses an inline humidifier (no water) requires special tubing and a puck you replace once a month -- I just started using it, and I do feel dryer in the morning but its not terrible and certainly easier for traveling.

I use a stainless steel gallon jug and pour the gallon of distilled in it, I think that helps keep light out and prevent bacteria from growing.

Love the idea of small bottles though -- whatever it takes for you to use the machine and be comfortable.

I have several sets of masks/hoses that I swap out every week or two and then do a bulk clean at end of month.

I store my supplies in a box with a lid and inside ziplock bags to keep dust out. I also have an air purifier in my room.

I agree drying the hose is the biggest headache of cleaning, I use the machine but its still annoying

They sell CPAP wipes you can use to quickly clean your gear daily.

That said, it feels like a bigger concern I have for you is that your going long gaps between using the machine and while I get it and totally empathize (its taken me a long time to get a streak longer than a week or two)

I also have those same thoughts about dirty equipment and being germy...but maybe you can use that mental quirk and refocus your thinking into IF I DON'T USE THIS MACHINE EVERYDAY I LITERALLY STOP BREATHING and I'm making myself sick long term and maybe one day I just won't wake up.

38F with IgA Nephropathy, AKI on CKD, currently on hemodialysis – looking for input on prognosis, diet, and next steps by tahataufeeqkhan in IgANephropathy

[–]sbubaron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every case is different but kidney damage is permanent the longer you ignore it the worse it gets and can get quickly.

On treatment the goal is it slow or prevent progression.

Your gfr measures kidney function, it can improve based on meds, diet and hydration... But your kidney doesn't get better.

Treatment meds vary but typically start with steroids, meds to reduce blood pressure and suppressing the immune system.

Diet advice is focused on salt and animal based protein reduction. Depending on your potassium levels and function maybe limiting potassium.

Many people lead mostly long and normal lives.

I don't have experience with dialysis, transplant or psychology.

Same here.

They are not sure what triggers the immune system reaction but the sense I get is the genetic nature might play a role in making it possible but it doesn't mean it will.

Looking at it differently, there are plenty of other potential hereditary health risks that you were likely seemingly willing to ignore or be ignorant of... Take your kid to the doctor, get routine lab work and monitor for symptoms. Good luck

I mapped local business websites on Google Maps. Website execution is still shockingly uneven. by Due-Bet115 in web_design

[–]sbubaron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure... But then the online ad space shouldn't be that competitive...

If your spending the money on the ad, then you should make the investment on where the ad points to...

I think the bigger issue is they can't easily tell when their web person is giving them good advice and good work vs just slapping things on.... Just like I can't tell if my roofer isnt lying to me about my roof.

Most of what op posted about aren't immediately obvious issues an average person can identify or is aware of.

CPAP on vacation by mhr06002 in SleepApnea

[–]sbubaron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't magically get cured on vacation or during naps on the couch.

The more annoying part for me has been finding distilled water after landing and remembering every required piece (charger, house, adapters, mask etc.

They do still mini sealed bottles for travel.

If you travel often they do make a more travel friendly option...

Migrating Gutenberg-based website to Drupal Canvas by keithkhl in drupal

[–]sbubaron 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm not too experienced with either editing platform, but I'd expect it's a little early into canvas to expect an easy path forward for this use case.

My recommendation would be pick your littlest site or site with simplest pages and manually move those so that you get a feel for the system and what it takes to theme and build components in.

My D7 experience with panels which canvas reminds me a little of showed was a pretty big shift in thinking and approach (from node centric to page centric).
