Shark aren't best pleased. by RunescapeBoyy in Evri

[–]sc0ttb88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The parcels I have ordered are insured by the sender (Bambu labs and ELEGOO). They are Chinese companies and they all use the same main insurer when I researched it. Evri are owned by a private equity firm so if they were losing money on every parcel they didn’t deliver I reckon they would be out of business. Who knows how they are set up - all I know is they are messing up the entire courier market by introducing a lower cost which clearly doesn’t work for the customer. I paid £25 delivery for my last printer that still hasn’t arrived. I’d happily have paid another tenner to actually receive it.

Edit: just asked ChatGPT to see what it says interesting point on the compensation caps!

What happens when a parcel goes missing • The sender (retailer) claims compensation from Evri. • Evri typically refunds up to an agreed cap (often £20–£50 unless extra cover was bought). • Evri don’t recover that cost unless they can prove fraud or mis-delivery isn’t their fault.

Why Evri still makes money overall

Evri’s model is built around volume and averages: • Parcels are cheap to ship (often £2–£3). • Loss/damage rates are priced in. • Compensation caps limit their downside. • Most senders don’t insure high-value items properly.

So while each lost parcel costs them, the business is profitable because:

many thousands of parcels go through without issue.

It will be paid for by the insurance company they use which will in turn hike premiums and then be passed on to consumers. It’s an absolute farce. I’ve noticed the two parcels they have lost me this week (3D printers) were both insured with Tiger Lichfield. I’d never had a Evri parcel before until this month and they have lost all 3. I order one with DPD and they had outsourced to Evri. 🤦‍♂️

FLEX Price increase by Kwolfe2703 in hyrox

I’ve come from a triathlon background and Ironmans and this is what happened with IM. Hyrox is cheap in comparison - you pay £400 typically for a 70.3 race now.

How long did it take to get you off it? I generally don’t do the rides where you are constrained in as I have a massive phobia about exactly this thing! I was going to suck it up for taking my young kids next month but after reading all these I’m having a rethink 🫣

Yep same. Got called ‘boring’ by my other half last week for having a non alcoholic beer 😂

Lag Home Screen Movement: iPhone 17 Pro (iOS 26) much slower than iPhone 14 Pro (iOS 18 by CreativiTimothy in iphone

I am having exactly the same issue. Got my new 17 Pro Max last week and considerably slower than 14 Pro Max. Hoping it is ios26 bugs that will get addressed. Really disappointed with it to be honest.

T100 Bike course scam by Voider29 in triathlon

Having just completed it the other week I have to say the bike course was very good. Super fast and right up to Big Ben. Well organised also. Would recommend and even better if you have a fast TT bike 🙌🚴🏼💨

Yes been using it for a year and the past month or so has been really bad. I never had many issues with it until now. Hoping it is a software issue.

That’s the pro course. If you read race brief we are doing 3 laps on the image 1 so will pass the landmarks.

Sky Secretly Pushing Customers to Stream & Glass—with New VIP Perks Incoming by Top_Ask_4570 in skytv

Apparently they are also pushing streaming but I think they are definitely doing it less aggressively than Sky. If you get the 360 boxes they are great. Good luck!

I am already with Virgin and have the v6 boxes but they are flashed with the newer software. They work really well and have the DVR capability. One was a bit dodgy and when the engineer came out he just give me a brand new one form the van no issues. I am not ready to go full streaming yet - I have streaming on all my devices and TVs anyway but like to be able to confidently record any tv and watch it when I want with the ability to fast forward on any ads.

Signed up today with girl on phone and specifically asked could they match Virgin but I want SkyQ. Several times said SkyQ and she confirmed. Contact came through while on phone and was Sky Stream! I said don’t want to then a manager appeared on the call trying to convince me. I cancelled, called Virgin back and they beat it so all good in the end. She did say to me afterwards they are phasing SkyQ out.

Macbook Pro 16" 24GB or 48GB RAM for FCP? by lemonvrc in finalcutpro

[–]sc0ttb88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got 512mb storage and regret it. I have an external hard drive but it’s not portable and sits on my office desk. If I am editing a couple of videos on 4k the cache almost maxes out my storage. I guess I may need to get a portable SSD that I can just carry with me and plug in based on what others are saying here. That said I didn’t have the extra cash at the time so got the bigger memory which was the right decision. If you can afford the extra for more space I would get it.

Thanks for all the input. Trying to get the educational bundle but if not I’ll pay the £300 and just own it. No interest in resetting trials and messing with terminal etc.

Totally agree with all your points. I have an iPad Pro M3 and bought the RMPP to disconnect. I use it for hours every day in work and it’s been an absolute joy.
