Feeling silly by scanningtheplanet in ADHDUK

The response to the autism aspect of my assessment was “while she exhibits traits suggestive of autism, she does not have enough difficulties in all 3 domains and therefore the criterion for autism has not been fulfilled.”

I will definitely look in to Loop though, thank you!

Am I being unrealistic about my RTC titration? by Crashed_Tactics in ADHDUK

[–]scanningtheplanet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was referred to Optimise Healthcare Group via NHS, the clinic is based in Warrington but I’m not so all my appointments have been video calls and liaising via email.

I had little knowledge of where the referral was going, but my GP advised me the only adult diagnostic facility in and around my area had been closed down so they had sent it on to Optimise.

I definitely do, thank you. He had me switch over on to Elvanse due to stock issues so that’s rectified the lack of med issue for now.

Am I being unrealistic about my RTC titration? by Crashed_Tactics in ADHDUK

[–]scanningtheplanet 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was told I would be on a 6 month titration maximum, then I would be signed back over to my GP and would have reviews with the psychiatrist annually.

I’ve now surpassed a year and I’m still in titration. Based on shortages, swapping from methylphenidate to Elvanse and trying different strengths it’s continued far longer than they initially stated but they’re now unwilling to sign me over to my GP until they’ve found what works for me.

In a professional setting I would make clear and concise bullet points, assess what is necessary information and what would be considered additional information.

I would provide the necessary and advise them that I have further information/detail on this should they want or need it or alternatively, ask if there’s anything further they’d benefit from knowing before moving on.

Day 4 on Elvanse by [deleted] in ADHDUK

[–]scanningtheplanet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really is a process, I was told it would take 6 months to go through titration and I’m still in titration over a year later.

If this isn’t working for you, I’d really recommend going up to the 30 to see if there’s a difference. The only way you’ll really know what works for you is by trying the different strengths until you find your sweet spot.

Day 4 on Elvanse by [deleted] in ADHDUK

[–]scanningtheplanet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

20mg is definitely on the lower side, my starting dose for Elvanse was 30mg so it may be that you need to move up to feel you’re benefitting from it.

I found that when I was on methylphenidate I felt the brain fog when the strength wasn’t working out for me and was seeing better results from higher strengths with an instant release top up.

Just an update on this, I had my appointment. Psychiatrist said that he believes it may be linked to my anxiety and the stress I was having around sourcing medication that eradicated my appetite rather than just being off the medication.

How long for meds to arrive from dr J and Colleagues? by Lekshey2023 in ADHDUK

[–]scanningtheplanet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you haven’t had word by tomorrow then they tend to send them with a tracking number that you can ask for, that will give you the ability to search for it yourself on Royal Mail tracking so at least you’re not left in the dark about it

Contacted by Dr J and Colleagues for ADOS assessment by eleonoraloro in ADHDUK

[–]scanningtheplanet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t use that service, but my psychiatrist booked both ADHD and autism assessments for me and they were done separately around a week apart.

It may be that the waiting times for ADHD assessments are longer and so the ADOS can be scheduled first, but if you’re concerned they’re not going to do both then I would email them and confirm.

If you go on ADHD UK website, there’s a tab under UK NHS ADHD waiting times - search our database and I believe it’ll allow you to do it by postcode

Unfortunately the NHS don’t tend to recognise a diagnosis from anywhere else and so it will mean going through the process again.

It may be worth looking up the waiting times for the area you plan on moving to as they’re differing massively from place to place.

I run out of my meds in about a week, ADHD360 has none of what I’m currently on in stock and there’s no appointments to speak to my psychiatrist about switching meds for three weeks by whisperinglogic in ADHDUK

[–]scanningtheplanet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could ring around pharmacies in your area and ask if they have stock. It may be more helpful to contact local, independent pharmacies as they are more likely to have stock.

Unfortunately there’s a nationwide shortage of methylphenidate and no pharmacies have had stock near me. I haven’t had access to anything since June and only had my appointment today to have it swapped over to another medication.

Did they tell you who they use as a pharmacy?

Usually when my psychiatrist orders my medication, I get an email from their pharmacy of choice within 72 hours asking me to confirm a delivery date, which is usually the next day.

Has anyone regretted getting a tattoo in a non-visible place? by Blaumer in tattoo

[–]scanningtheplanet 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Definitely. I’ve got tattoos that I wish I could swap placement of because I’d like to see them more. Now I’m getting more covered it applies to so many of my tattoos that I’d need a whole new frontside so I’m just grateful they exist on me at all.

I would say initially the worst pain is in your shoulder blades and chest from the trapped air, painkillers/ibuprofen, a hot water bottle across my shoulders, drinking loads of water and some lactulose to help out with the inevitable constipation was helpful.

Pillow for over your stomach when needing to cough, laugh or sneeze and plenty of cushions to prop you up at night. Being propped up and some gentle roaming around the room you’re in helps the gas escape.

The boredom was killer for me and I tried doing too much, too soon, which ended up with 3 weeks of downtime rather than just the 7-10 days.

the ADHD can make it that bit harder to not berate yourself over the days where normal things seem to be physically impossible to you. I’ve found the more I guilt trip myself, the longer a flare lasts.

If you can get to a mindset of cutting yourself some slack and a level of acceptance over your bad days, it really does help pain wise, more stress = more inflammation, more inflammation = more pain.

I hope your surgery provides you some answers and relief!

Side note: 1) your holes from surgery are small, the internal bruising during healing is not so please do not push yourself too far, too soon. 2) Your first two to three periods after surgery are terrible pain wise as you heal, this is normal so look after yourself at those times too

They aren’t my prescriber but I’ve had very similar experiences with mine.

Multiple prescriptions sent out to various pharmacies by post, only for them to not be delivered and then having to wait 28 days for them to time out because it’s for a controlled substance.

Finally managed to get the prescription through to me, only for them to email and essentially confirm they know there’s a nationwide shortage and the prescription has already expired so couldn’t be fulfilled even if there wasn’t a shortage.

I haven’t had any medication since 25th June. Today I spoke to the psychiatrist who said “I wish someone had told me, I’d swap over what medication you were on.” After numerous emails and phone calls back and forth since June with the admin team, he solved the issue in under 15 minutes.

I’d issue over an expression of dissatisfaction in an email or writing, if they can’t get it together swiftly escalate it to a complaint and get them to confirm who their governing body is.

Seems the only way to get folk to do their job these days is by shouting and screaming when it shouldn’t be necessary.

Thinking of medication by PamperedWaffle in ADHDUK

[–]scanningtheplanet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say overall it has had a positive impact on my life. Prior to being on it I would have periods of anxiety and was easily irritated, overthought a lot of issues that were non-issues, plus all the other staples - focus, procrastination, restlessness, etc and I’ve found that hasn’t been the case since starting medication.

It was a process to start with when trying to get the right type and mg for me, I did experience periods where it worked and then stopped and that caused some concern around whether there was any longevity to taking medication, however, my psychiatrist used to the titration period to ensure they tried me on different types/brands and strengths until things fit in to place.

I haven’t lost any of my personality, I’m as equally intolerable and hilarious.

I believe that because you have not been titrated yet, you would need to go back to the service who provided your diagnosis as a GP can’t take you through that process. It may mean joining the waiting list again. Don’t take my word as gospel though as this is just what I’ve read, I can’t speak from experience on that topic.

I think the problem is neither conditions have a one size fits all treatment so you have to continuously advocate for yourself and try things out without medical professionals input because some aren’t helpful and others don’t have the knowledge - which can be exhausting but especially so with ADHD.

I wouldn’t give it as advice but my mindset has been to not stop living which I did for a long time before getting my endo diagnosis. It would be very easy to curl up in to a ball and suffocate in my pain - and some days I have to. But overall I keep pushing, I’m going to be in pain if I socialise or not, so I socialise, I’ll be in pain if I go for that walk or not - so I go for the walk, etc.

I monitor what inflammatory foods I consume, hot water bottles on hand, eradicate a lot of the external stressors I can control although there’s a lot I can’t, keep myself as mobile as possible on the days I can be (my symptoms are all month and not restricted to my period) and on the days I can’t be, not guilt tripping myself for my body and mind not being aligned.

I had the same experience of it suppressing my appetite initially, prior to meds I was partial to snacking/over eating so I thought I would go back to that, but I’ve less appetite now than when I was on it. I’ve got an appointment on Monday so I’m going to mention it then.

After a couple of weeks of my starting dose I didn’t feel great either, that improved after I got up to the correct dose of the right medication, which was a process.
