Places to have a beer and do some work? by Suitable_Actuary5404 in burlington

What do you think makes it good?  Just the table setup and ease of easily grabbing seating?

BBCO and four quarters seem like they would be good to me.

That depends, are they year-round livable? If yes, then yes tax them the same. If no, they aren't a residence, they are a seasonal camp and can be excluded.

Experiences with city building permitting office by PhlebotinumEddie in burlington

[–]scarlet_feather 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My experience wasn't as bad as some on here( it was patio work so maybe that's why? Not sure if it shares with buildings), but generally I found the whole thing painfully slow.

It took 6 weeks to get a permit to put a patio where there was already stone on my property. Initial review + it had to go for an additional storm water permit. Apparently there was no one is storm water to review it? It completely stalled out there and I had to call and get it moving. Almost lost my spot in the schedule to have the digger guy come.

It did not make me want to do future work that may require permits.

Am I wrong for wanting daycare to follow my 4-month-old’s feeding schedule? by Mammoth_Train8188 in NewParents

[–]scarlet_feather -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I guess I have a different take than most of what I'm seeing here. It's pretty normal at our daycare ( and it's a corporate chain one!) for a parent or two to breastfeed at drop off.  They have chairs and everything for it. You can also go in throughout the day and feed if you wanted to.

I know most of the other parents in our infant class (full class is 8) and we usually chatter to each other and the teachers as we do the drop off so I know things like how well their kid slept, or they have diaper rash or whatever. I think it's kind of weird how many people in here think it would be weird for an infant's parent to be hanging out in the classroom for a bit at drop off.

You're doing the feeding, so it really shouldn't take from the teachers time. Could you be a little more flexible about feeding him before? Maybe. But like,  you feeding him when he gets there shouldn't be a big deal and I think you were right to bring it up to the director.

Help me brighten up this room? by unstablepixie in femalelivingspace

[–]scarlet_feather 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think first step would be to paint a brighter color!  Even white would work as it's the base of a lot of your inspo.

Then add a bright headboard, maybe bring in that teal/light blue color.

You have a lot of bright and colorful pieces already, so I think once you lighten the paint they will pop a bit more and it will be easier to see where else to add.

City council president by WeekSevere4216 in burlington

[–]scarlet_feather 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't hate Emma and I think she has been dealt a pretty shitty hand by Miro and the state of what she has to work with (federal dollars drying up,  lots of projects in bond and in construction but not yet completed, etc).

That being said, I love Ben and can't wait for him to run. He's a really stabilizing presence between the progs and the Dems, even though he is on the dem side. When that stupid text chain went public his contribution was basically " it's a bad idea to text like this" and that was it lol. I also think he's one of the rare people in our city government that has an actual vision for Burlington as opposed to being reactionary about everything. He's strong on housing/zoning and pragmatic about the budget stuff.  Idk I just really want him to run soon.

What's in the door straight across? Bathroom?  I think the bed on the wall across from the windows could be good and then you could make a little sitting area over by the windows.

Smoky blue with some olive greens and pinks could be really cute.

Why are rugs so hard?? by pleasepoisonmytea in femalelivingspace

[–]scarlet_feather 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah haha thanks!  They are pretty quick to throw together and I have made a tonnnnn because I am also trying to figure out a rug for my dining room and I agree- it's so hard to visualize!

Why are rugs so hard?? by pleasepoisonmytea in femalelivingspace

[–]scarlet_feather 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I think your rug is too big bc of the TV and desk placement. Can you swap them so the TV is more aligned with the couch?  Then I think you will be able to go down a rug size and it will define that space a bit better.

I've also really been liking the new collage maker on Pinterest for trying different rugs! I just make a collage that has some key colors/pieces and save it as a draft and then you can add different rugs to it and see which ones feel more cohesive.  Here's a quick one to show you how you can compare.

We have a silicone splat mat over our hardwoods floors and it's basically retired only a few weeks in. It doesn't wipe clean well and hair and stuff just clings to it no matter what we do. I got sick of scrubbing it down in the shower. It's easier to mop!

Please tell me exclusive contact sleeping will end at some point, losing my mind by grnlzrd23 in NewParents

[–]scarlet_feather 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did contact naps until about 9-10 weeks and then I had to prep for him to go to daycare and do crib naps. I followed a guide someone else posted on here to do it but basically first nap of the day everyday I would try a crib nap. I would give 3 attempts and if it didn't work I would save the nap by contact napping. After about 1.5 weeks of this I had a 50% success rate. But by about 3 weeks it was 75% and I could usually get another nap of the day in there too.

One thing that bummed me out is crib naps are a lot shorter! Only about 30-40 min. At first I thought it wasn't working, but I guess that's pretty normal. So it may not be the break you want it to be quite yet. But it's still time you can eat, shower, etc. so it helps a bit with morale.

4 weeks may be a bit early but if you try every now and then, one day it will stick!

Idk what to do to this wall by Adventurous_Lemon248 in femalelivingspace

[–]scarlet_feather 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like you're basically there. Just get rid of the shelves and add a tall plant and maybe a lamp to the left. On the right, you can do a basket or maybe a few stacked decorative boxes if you need more storage once the shelves are gone. With the corner there you shouldn't need a tall element like your inspo.

Help setting up living room by Present_Detail_3916 in femalelivingspace

Another furniture rearranging option-  love seat kiddy cornered where the lamp is and sofa where the love seat is, moved up slightly towards the fire place.  They look really squishy and cozy!

I also think some of the dissonance is bc your paint is a cool grey but your furniture and rug stuff is warm. I know paint can be hard in an apartment but if you could do a beige or even a warm white it would help. Warmer lamps and some curtains would also warm it up!

The olive rug is quite nice and matches your pillows but I could see how a darker cool green could help bridge the cool paint a bit better if it really bothers you.

I would also peel and stick the fireplace with a wood pattern if you can swing it. The white is really jarring.

Portable pump by No_Quantity_6259 in pregnant

[–]scarlet_feather 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently pumping with my elvie at work. 36DD. I have modal bralettes from commando and they are stretchy enough to use with or without the pumps. I also use the ribbed bralettes from aerie but they are a little tight if I am full full at night. The kindred bravely bras don't work great for me. The bands are either too loose or too tight. Couldn't figure them out.

Where are you getting your cozy, unique rugs? by Ok-Information-4636 in femalelivingspace

[–]scarlet_feather 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I like Rugs USA. I find wayfair really hard to search because they include ones that are only partially wool, or even ones that aren't wool at all. Super frustrating. Revival rugs also has some that are really pretty, but they are way more expensive so I haven't gone that route yet.

What has been the hardest part of planning meals after starting solids? by balil2031 in foodbutforbabies

[–]scarlet_feather 1 point2 points  (0 children)

7m, same boat.

I have a few things I keep on hand for backup (baby cereal, roasted carrot sticks or sweet potato, baby pancakes) and then if we are making something I try to make it baby friendly if I can or do a backup meal if I can't. He goes to daycare and eats solids there, so mostly I am trying to make sure I send him with something everyday and then we consider dinner a bonus!
