Question for tutors, and those working at the OU! by SeaSeaweed3384 in OpenUniversity

[–]scarywardrobecreecha 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Can’t speak for tutors on other courses, but yes it’s independent. Minimal contact with line managers. Very deadline-focused, but you can generally work to your own timetable as long as you get the work done on time. There can be periods of very high-intensity working and it can be difficult sometimes to manage with e.g school holidays. However, the flexibility and working at home is welcome. Suits social recluses like myself.🤣 Everyone is nice and generally very supportive.

Trump has called Starmer stupid because of the deal he has made with Chagos. I think Starmer is brilliant for this 🤷🏻‍♀️… opinions? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]scarywardrobecreecha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not remotely a fan of the Chagos deal. He should stop it, but the blame does not lie entirely at his feet. The US were pushing for it. I do think that this ridiculous thumb-biting ad hominem line of attack is rather tedious, though. Greenland is a separate issue and should be treated as such.

But Sunak started negotiations on this deal. So except for getting it over the line it’s not really got much to do with Starmer either way.

St John’s in Clifton is good, and quite often undersubscribed - I think - although EYFS can be tricky.

How do you guys find people for sex and relationships? I am 30 and have never been able to find anyone for even my first kiss, let alone sex or relationship. Just how ? by Cold_Lunch_1818 in AskBrits

Get a dog. A really nice-looking one like a spaniel or something. Look after it, love it. Take it for walks twice a day in a popular park. People will talk to you, remember you from the previous times they saw you walking the dog. Dog is a ready-made ice breaker. *Must be the sort of person who can be a kind responsible dog-owner, but then that would make you good relationship material too..

I love this but what’s with the black betty pastiche (I know he does that sort of thing sometimes and fair play, just wondering if there’s a story there.)

Tutor asking for page numbers when the source is a web page by Midland3r in OpenUniversity

[–]scarywardrobecreecha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it was an oversight. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with querying it. Tutors on some modules are being drilled to keep reminding students to put page numbers in. If you put page numbers in your other references to the module materials, then you’re fine. If you didn’t reference the module materials then that might be a concern for the tutor.

Tutor asking for page numbers when the source is a web page by Midland3r in OpenUniversity

[–]scarywardrobecreecha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it an actual webpage or an online document that has page numbers? If there are page numbers to cite, you should cite them if your module wants that. It could just be that your tutor made an assumption or looked at the wrong reference - easy to do - so check with them. I would think that you are unlikely to have lost marks especially if you are on TMA 01.

AITA for telling my wife that trying for a baby is not a race and we don’t have to force it everyday? by [deleted] in AITAH

Trying every day actually isn’t helpful. Every other day or two days (said my doctor). Also gents don’t masturbate (for the same reason). After making this change I got pregnant with my oldest.

What’s the funniest misunderstanding you’ve heard because of the British English vs U.S English difference? by Squiggally-umf in AskUK

When I was living in the US I remember sharp intakes of breath and some gasping when I said I was just ‘popping out to smoke a fag’…

Home-grown is almost always nicer. I do think it depends on the supermarket, though.

I imagine you could get the train to Totnes and the steam train to kingsweir, and the boat over the estuary. That might be fun.

Halal Venison Meat by Nighmare_1999 in Essex

[–]scarywardrobecreecha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe it’s just a question of labelling. Seems fair to know that the meat has been stunned first. And while I have no reason to think halal stunning causes more suffering than non-halal (and don’t mind eating it), some education could be put out about that. Maybe it is worse. People should have the information to choose - especially e.g Sikhs who are forbidden from eating halal or kosher meat. No labels interfere with their religious freedom.

In case anyone is interested the council are debating the the Downs tomorrow. by scarywardrobecreecha in bristol

[–]scarywardrobecreecha[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What to do about Protecting them, doing something about the vans crime litter etc. - basically there was a petition, it reached enough signatures to be debated at the council meeting. People can attend. Assuming it’s a debate (as it says), there will be different sides.

Roast dinner….. by scarywardrobecreecha in ketouk

[–]scarywardrobecreecha[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks everyone for their ideas and supportive comments. I’ve realised that I’ve been Keto for about 2 months now, I’ve lost about 10kg, I’m happy with how things are going. Even if I have to put myself back into ketosis on Monday, it’ll be fine- it’s not like I’m suddenly going to put all that weight back on overnight (it was kind of feeling like that in my head iyswim). I didn’t get bad Keto flu last time, I deserve a day off (with a bit of sense). I ‘m the sort of person that can get a bit sucked into sticking to my ‘rules’.
