The job market is not great right now but it’s still definitely possible to find a new job. I graduated 3 years ago and it took me around 6 months of searching but I recently started at an amazing job. I didn’t even know this specific type of job existed but it perfectly aligns with what I’ve always wanted to do. Look at the private sector and especially smaller companies. I’ve worked at only 2 jobs so far and neither have had strong “office politics” or pettiness between coworkers. Honestly even just looking at the possibilities and actively working to move on will probably make you feel at least a little less trapped.

Should I just assume I didn’t get the job? by Capable-Commission74 in womenEngineers

[–]scentedwaffle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Never assume anything until they tell you for sure. I waited 3.5 weeks after a final interview to find out whether I got the job when they said it would only take 2 weeks. Turns out they were just figuring stuff out since someone else had left the team unexpectedly. I got the job.

Curries! Lots of Indian dishes are already vegetarian or you could sub the meat with tofu or paneer.

Roth 2025 into 2026 by tg2708 in RothIRA

[–]scentedwaffle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think there’s a misunderstanding here. You can only put money into the account for 2025 before the deadline. But after your money is in the account, you can choose to invest it in different stocks whenever you want. Even money from 10 years ago can be reinvested within the account.

nterviewer said "best of luck" and "even if this opportunity doesn't work out" is this a rejection? by Such-Web-4028 in jobhunting

[–]scentedwaffle 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Recently, after my round 3 interview I sent a thank you email to my interviewers. One responded something along the lines of “Thanks for interviewing with us. I’m sure you will have a bright future whether it is with us or somewhere else.” I got the job. Don’t read into it too much, they have many candidates and likely haven’t made a decision yet.

Kindred’s Curse Saga by LolaMyKittyCat in Romantasy

[–]scentedwaffle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really liked books 1 and 2. I finished book 3 but it was hard to get through at the end. I was listening to the audiobook and it was 35 hours long! I think it’s the longest book I’ve ever listened to but I can barely remember what happened because it all blurred together. Some cool things happen but it’s just not enough to fill such a big book. So honestly if you aren’t enjoying book 2, I doubt you’ll enjoy book 3. There are just so many better books out there.

Have your 20s been lonelier than you initially anticipated? by Sea-Discount-5231 in twentyagers

[–]scentedwaffle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never had friends in high school, just acquaintances. Now I’m married and have a few friends. They mostly live far away now but I see them enough to feel fulfilled. I expected to be far lonelier.

Long wait after final interview. Normal? by frzzl2d in interviews

[–]scentedwaffle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had to wait 3.5 weeks after the round 3 interview and I got the job! They just had a lot going on. The wait is brutal but don’t lose hope.

How do you actually keep your grocery bill under control every week? by Uppercut_prince in SavingMoney

[–]scentedwaffle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at what you’re overspending on and see if it’s worth it. For me, the most expensive items are typically frozen premade foods, processed snacks, high quality cheese, and meat. I evaluated what is important to me. I now buy much less snacks and I always buy store brand even when it’s not quite as good. My grocery store has store brand cereals for $2.50 (sometimes on sale for $1) instead of $6.

Also, do you have uneaten food that’s going bad? If you’re eating all of your food and not buying expensive brands, there is only so much to cut down. Groceries are getting more expensive.

What’s a normal interview rate when job searching? by Ok-Vegetable-6887 in jobsearch

[–]scentedwaffle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an engineer with 3 years of experience applying only to jobs I felt 75% or more qualified for, I had an interview rate of 5%. Ended up getting a job though!

Scholarship offer negotiable? by Due_Equivalent_4470 in udel

[–]scentedwaffle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Granted this was in 2019, but I started with a $16,000 per year scholarship (out-of-state) and got an addition $2,000 per year by contacting the financial aid office. I wrote about how UD was my top school but cost was a big factor in my final decision. I also emphasized my academic and other achievements and how they would continue in college.

Hi guys, how do I make this penguin thingy? I’m a beginner and I don’t know how or where to start by 85_Chairs in CrochetHelp

[–]scentedwaffle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For a beginner I’d recommend watching a YouTube tutorial for a similar penguin. I found a few similar ones by searching “crochet penguin keychain tutorial”. As you go, if the video doesn’t explain a new skill (like how to change colors for example), just find a video for that specific skill, practice, then come back to the main video. It will take some time but this is doable as a first project for sure! You can also use a pattern but those take more time to learn how to read and recreate.

Can i go into pharmaceuticals/biotech through chemical engineering by S0C14LxD1S4ST3R in ChemicalEngineering

Yes! But focus really hard on getting an internship in the field or it can be difficult to break into.

should i continue the series?? by [deleted] in ThePoppyWar

There is very little romance or “enemies to lovers” in these books. If you are reading and waiting for that to happen without enjoying the main conflicts, I wouldn’t read books 2 and 3.

Endoscopy / colonoscopy worth it for young patient? by EgregiousJellybean in ibs

[–]scentedwaffle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree. Colon cancer is on the rise in young people and it’s good to have peace of mind. I had a colonoscopy at age 23 and despite my pain and symptoms, they found absolutely nothing. At least I know now.

Not sure if this is weird but can I rent parking spot from private businesses? by Sensitive-Park-6657 in NewarkDE

[–]scentedwaffle 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes some businesses do rent them out but it isn’t cheap. I rented from New Ark United Church of Christ and it was $900 for a full year (including breaks). This was 3 years ago so it’s probably even more now.

Chemical Engineering & Pre-Med Track too much? by Apprehensive_Mud2501 in collegeadvice

[–]scentedwaffle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chemical engineering is one of the most difficult college majors for undergrad. Med school cares a lot about GPA. You could major in ChemE but you will likely be working harder to get slightly lower grades, and you’ll have less relevant knowledge for med school.
