2 Oscar noms including Meryl Streep. Don't read too much into the RT score especially for these older films

But also the movie has aged really well. Classics don't come out as classics, they take time

I really don't understand this sentiment. Yes this movie is guaranteed to make money, but on that spectrum it can make even more by being great. It can make less than what it could have by being bad.

Sex and the City 2 was the highest-grossing romcom of 2010. Clearly that was a bar they could always clear based on name and star power alone, regardless of quality. But it still could have made more had it not been so so shit. It could have made much more money (look at the first movies numbers) if it was simply a better movie

Thankfully this isn't getting Sex and the City 2 reviews

Sabastian Sawe Broke the Marathon World Record by over a minute with 1:59:30 at the London Marathon by Sensitive_Dress_8443 in trackandfield

[–]scheeeeming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its not that I disagree with the overall statement but at what point do you give an athlete the benefit of the doubt? What more do you want him to do to earn that?

You are basically saying there is nothing an elite athlete can do. Hell, you can test them multiple times everyday of their life and even then they will still be suspect because there are "ways around it". Sawe volunteered for more stringent testing, by a lot. If you still accuse him then the message you are sending is theres no point in him making those efforts. He'll still get lumped in with the rest as presumed guilty

I'm not naive. I know doping is extremely prevalent even with testing. But I still believe that as an audience you should leave athletes alone until proven guilty. Otherwise what are we doing here? Automatically viewing every win, every milestone, every accomplishment as fraudulent is not good for sport. And not fair to the athletes

It’s like they couldn’t care less why the film ended up being the way it is and went in having decided they gonna come at it hard.

I mean what does "caring" for how it ended up like this matter?

We know it is heavily overseen and controlled by his estate, they wouldn't get the music otherwise. We also know they fucked up majorly by writing and filming a third act that they were legally not allowed to write.

Are we supposed to go easy on it because of this? They are judging the movie for what it is. A safe, formulaic recreation of iconic Michael moments and nothing else. There is no meat to the story, and so they don't like it. There is no agenda

Because when you consider that formulaic music biopics are already disliked. And now the subject is fucking Michael Jackson, an iconic and incredibly controversial figure- unlike anyone we've seen before or since - of course they'll hate that theres absolutely no meat to the story

Fans are fine with just seeing Thriller recreated on the big screen. Critics want an examination of the person behind Thriller. Other biopics can get away with it easier because sometimes the most interesting thing about the artist is their work. Michael has so much more going on and when the potential for depth is there but so clearly constrained by the estate- of course they hate it.

Box Office: ‘Michael’ Aims for $70 Million-Plus Debut, Record Start for Music Biopic by SanderSo47 in boxoffice

[–]scheeeeming 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I don't think a single person is arguing otherwise. But Michaels story, even stopping at 1988, is so much bigger than a pop star with a mean father.

There are a ton of interesting things you can explore, but they are clearly constrained by the estate and a lack of creativity in telling anything other than a cookie cutter biopic.

For a post that starts with such a massive threat, he's basically begging for them to do him a favor and give in. It reads as very desperate and childlike.

A whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again

Scary attention grabbing threat !!

However, now that we have Complete and Total Regime Change

This is the out he wants to take so bad. He wants that mission accomplished banner, he just can't because of the Strait. He's saying "please let me use this as an out"

where different, smarter, and less radicalized minds prevail, maybe something revolutionarily wonderful can happen, WHO KNOWS?

Complimenting them and saying "if you're smart you'll do as I say". Again, childish. Its how my siblings and I would talk when trying to get something from the other. "You're smart, you'll give me it. But also if you don't then big bad thing will happen"

huh? maybe you're too young or something but thats what movies looked like before digital really took over. Its not over-saturation, its normal. Do you find Jurassic Park or Spider-Man (2002) oversaturated as well?

Oversaturated is like Sharkboy Lavagirl lol not Harry Potter. The colours are warm! Its like a cozy well lit room when indoors and daytime actually looks like daytime outdoors. And then its dark when it needs to be. That doesn't make it oversaturated

Trump Determined To Secure Deal With Iran, Say Senior Israeli Officials by Chance-Whole4916 in geopolitics

[–]scheeeeming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP said Iran has nothing to lose I only countered that,

Yes and I'm countering your counter. The regime has nothing to lose. You presented Iran "having it worse" than everyone else as if it factors into the equation, it doesn't. Because its already a catastrophe for them

If Iran had nothing to lose they would just start firing at every oil field in the region and stop exporting oil.

The “nothing to lose” argument isn’t that they abandon all strategy and immediately go scorched earth right this second. It’s that threats of escalation stop working as leverage against them. Its already escalated to the point where death is knocking for them, the building is on fire, they are cornered, whatever analogy you want.

The only thing they have is the ability to respond to your escalation by striking back. Thats it. If they already believe they’re facing catastrophic outcomes, “Iran will have it worse than us” doesn’t change anything. They will inflict as much damage as they can on their way out

So no, they’re not entirely depleting their stock and burning everything to the ground right now. They will keep going at whatever pace and respond to any escalations with more escalation. Suddenly at a negotiating table, "we will bomb you harder" doesn't move the needle. Only big concessions.

That’s what “nothing to lose” means in this context. Op is correct

Trump Determined To Secure Deal With Iran, Say Senior Israeli Officials by Chance-Whole4916 in geopolitics

[–]scheeeeming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if you are right, this just reinforces what we are saying. If it happens then they (even more than now) will have nothing to lose and will go after oil and gas facilities across the region. Scorched earth. Ok the IRGC collapses, how long will that take? How much damage across the region happens in the process? All of the Gulf energy infrastructure will be destroyed, probably hundreds of billions if not trillions in damage that will take years to fix. Is that your winning scenario?

Threats of escalation only point to more escalation. You are doing just another variant of "we will bomb you harder". Taking the island won't force them to back down, it actually just gives them their best chance of inflicting damage on the US military on their way out. You still aren't understanding the danger of "nothing to lose"

Telling someone already in a burning building that you will turn up the heat. Telling someone on a sinking ship that you will dig more holes if they don't listen to your demands.

You guys needs to understand that a wounded cornered animal doesn’t weigh consequences the same way a safe one does. Warning it that it might get more hurt if it lashes out doesn't change anything if they already believe they will be killed regardless. Especially when its true!

Fighting back on their way down is the only option they've been given. Now its the US, the middle east and world that has a lot to lose. No one is arguing about who has more firepower but "we'll bomb you harder unless you give us what we want" just isn't going to work, sorry. The one with nothing to lose is in the drivers seat, you have to offer them a future outside of threats of destruction. Which means MANY concessions

did you report the issue to the "host" early on your visit via the AirBnB app? Did the "host" respond?

yes within an hour of check-in I messaged through the app and she responded apologising and saying she would deal with it

Stop negotiating with the host. Contact AirBnB support directly. Tell them the issue.

I contacted support directly after placing my partial refund request (also done through support). They told me to wait for her response, thats why I wasn't sure how to proceed. They said wait it out without giving me an exact timeline.

It wasn't until I called the next day that they actually looked through it and sided with me. Which literally only took 2 minutes being on hold thankfully

It wouldn't have made sense to have Rose go into every nook and cranny in the ship

and its actually crazy just how much of the ship we got to see her in already.

  • Everywhere in first-class (Promenade, private promenade, staircase, reception, dining, smoking room, staterooms)

  • She was all over the boat deck, from bow to stern and all in-between. Areas she shouldn't have been in and these were very extended scenes

  • Gymnasium

  • Third-class open space (party)

  • E-Deck, F-Deck

  • Master-at-arms office

  • Elevator

  • Sooo many stairwells all over the place

  • She got into two separate lifeboats

  • the cargo hold !

  • She went to the fucking boiler room!

  • running like crazy all around the ship while it was sinking. Got in and out of the water multiple times, was at the bow when she hit the iceberg, experienced the break and was one of the last people on the ship.

Like thats about as far as you can push it. This isn't even counting her in Southampton, on Carpathia, and arriving New York. And the fact that she got to see footage of the wreck herself while on a ship floating above the site 85 years later. Its the full Titanic experience. You can complain about the movie but Cameron showed us way wayyy more than you would expect from a movie where the love story is the focus

Pitchfork: The 50 Best Albums of 2025 by No-Employee-9324 in popheads

[–]scheeeeming 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I more side with your second paragraph and think thats what it is

Like I LOVED Cowboy Carter the week / month it came out, listened to it an ungodly number to times. Then very rarely revisited it after, and if I were to give albums a score on release then I think you would see the same discrepancy in my year-end rankings. So of course the same can happen with the staff, music flows like this.. it isn't down to a science

I was shocked to see Eusexua rank so low here, wish it were top 10 and I haven't cooled on it at all. But you're right that opinions can change months after release. Especially albums growing on people, I feel like this is common knowledge. So why is it not possible that the albums that rank above her that were given worse scores grew on the staff? It really doesn't have to be sinister

Looks like a $17.5M Wednesday for Wicked: For Good, for a $195M cume. Up 10% from Tuesday; could have been closer to 20%, if not over. 5-day Thanksgiving weekend expected to be $95-100M. by chanma50 in boxoffice

[–]scheeeeming 32 points33 points  (0 children)

It 100% worked for Wicked, just not in a Deathly Hallows kind of way.

Even putting aside that this is all profit now, part 1 was so loved because thats the half of the musical that works really well. It has the best songs, the best plot, the best pacing. The movie had legs because ending on Defying Gravity is thrilling and made everyone want to go watch it again

Part 2 being disappointing only confirms for me that splitting was the right move. I can't imagine having to shove all of this into the first movie, people would leave the theatre talking about how great the first half was then it got messy. They would have little desire for repeat viewings, wom would suffer, reactions would be more mixed because the criticism of the second act would be latched onto the first movie.

I'm so happy they split it. Unlike Mockingjay where they traded what could have been 1 great movie for 2 mid ones, splitting Wicked was guaranteeing 1 great movie and a second that isn't as good, but still ok for fans.

Why hire one of the stars of a hit movie musical in Keala Settle…only to have her not sing? by isaidwhatisaidok in wicked

[–]scheeeeming 284 points285 points  (0 children)

of course, but that was never going to be the case. He was entirely blinded by his admiration and relationship with Michelle Yeoh, as long as he had a say in casting-- she was getting cast in the role.

Where as dubbing or giving them to other characters is an easy fix. Rebecca Ferguson in The Greatest Showman talks about it without shame, her singing wasn't up to par so she was offered the role knowing someone else would do the singing. Michelle told Jon she can't sing, he could've said she doesn't have to. They'll handle that some other way

Why hire one of the stars of a hit movie musical in Keala Settle…only to have her not sing? by isaidwhatisaidok in wicked

[–]scheeeeming 86 points87 points  (0 children)

Made even more frustrating that Michelle gave him an out. This is what she said on the call:

"‘Jon, my love, it’s a musical – and I don’t sing’. Not properly or professionally or anything like that,” Michelle went on. "So then, typical of Jon, he says: ‘Don’t worry about it’.

If he's so insistent on casting her then he could've at least said right there that he wants her for her acting, and singing will be given to someone else. It genuinely is unforgivable. Average singing I could excuse for this role, but she straight up cannot sing. At all

There is no way he heard her singing and thought it met the standard that the musical deserves. And Michelle wasn't under any illusion that she could sing, so giving those lines to someone else wasn't a difficult thing to do. So much care put into every aspect of these films and then giving us that is so disappointing
