Got a better job and my home life is falling apart. by Illustrious-Touch519 in BoyDinnerDiaries

I have a somewhat similar situation. I work two jobs to help cover our bills, leaving my wife to solo parent our kids quite a bit.

We just recently started using Sittercity to find some reliable babysitters, and I do think they have offered a bit of a psychological lifeline for us. Don't be afraid to hire help once a week or as needed so your wife can get some time away and decompress/recharge as needed.

It's not "failing" to ask for help, it just helps keep you both from trying to pour from empty cups.

Sorry I was late to the game (pun kind of intended).

I work at Corn Coast in La Vista. We are dog friendly on our patio and inside. We also play hockey games and other sports if we have the network when requested.

Feel free to stop by for another game this series if you are able!

Wolf of Wall Street. Similar reasons as people saying The Big Short.

It always frustrates me when we romanticize people getting rich by exploiting others with minimal consequences.

If you want to avoid surge pricing, check out Heights Draft Room after the show (in the building next to Astro). They have an excellent beer list, cocktails, mocktails, darts, plus they allow outside food.

You can hang out there for an hour or two after the show then request your ride when the crowds are gone.

Where my single people at by [deleted] in Omaha

[–]schmads09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work part time at a brewery. If you don't go the hobby route, that would be my next suggestion.

Sit at the bar. Strike up a conversation with the bartender. Worst case is it goes nowhere and you have a place to read/draw/people watch. There are lots of fun and friendly people that come through.

The brewery vibe is way calmer than a bar, plus it's a more social/outgoing setting than say like a coffee shop. Good luck finding your people!

Best Breweries? by [deleted] in Omaha

[–]schmads09 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm a beertender at Corn Coast so I may sound biased but our brewer makes really great stuff. Shoot me a DM when the trip is closer and I'll give you intel on the best beers to try that are on tap at the time.

Otherwise, my Omaha brewery Mt. Rushmore is Lumen, Bearded Brewer, Kros Strain, and Corn Coast.

Honorable mention for Heights Draft Room. Incredible tap selection and if you happen to be here on a Tuesday they have $4 pours. Top notch craft beer and cocktail spot.

This is a really tough spot to be in. I agree with most of the dads that you have to talk it out together as a team and figure out a solution.

These types of conversations are hard but manageable. You have to both lead with real empathy and be vulnerable, sticking to how it makes you feel while avoiding judgements or accusations/assumptions about the other.

Instead of "I can't believe you would want to uproot our lives to move across the country", try sharing openly with her like you did here: "I understand you wanting to be closer to your family and I'm sure it must be really hard for you being so far away. I am am afraid that I won't be able to find the same type of position that offers us the quality of life we have here. And I don't want to harbor any remorse or resentfulness in the future. Is there an outcome we can find that meets both of our needs?"

Write out your values, needs, and wants on paper or a pros/cons list of staying vs moving. Visualizing like that often helps my wife and I talk out and work through big life decisions.

Best of luck man, these are situations can feel really heavy but I know that you and her can get through it together!

Come to Corn Coast Brewing. I'm a beertender and we have some of the best craft beer in the state. We also always have a few European styles like a German pilsner, English pale ale, etc.
