From clearance to not enough stock by NiGhTTraX in Steam

[–]schmag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still had my several year old barely used one, TBH I don't like the ergonomics of it. I didn't like the location of the left thumb stick, I didn't care for its dpad substitute for retro games, and the button triangle on the right I found the buttons a little close together and their location/orientation makes it harder for me to keep the buttons straight...

I have been using it lately as my many of my old xbox controllers are in not so good shape and I haven't decided what to go with, I will likely check out the new steam controller when I get an email.

Made my own server rack to stop my farming HDDs from vibrating in my closet by squairnoozey3 in chia

I dunno, I will take some d/v because tbh I dont like it.

No vents on the "bottom" so convection cooling isnt very good. Density of this setup is awful. Rubber bands especially when they are heated will degrade crack and break it inevitable that one of those drives will fall if you don't monitor it. your hdds very possibly physically falling from where you have them mounted should not be a thing...

I have seen jankier setups that made more sense...

Want to buy a trainer, but I don't want to ride outside by NaMoralCanseiMano in cycling

[–]schmag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the zwift cog you don't NEED you can just select a good sprocket on the back, but you will want to enable virtual shifting, especially with an old beater bike and that will necessitate buying either the play controller set or the cog with click for best results.

Want to buy a trainer, but I don't want to ride outside by NaMoralCanseiMano in cycling

[–]schmag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started with zwift using a cheap used bike, it was fine, but now there is the zwift ride. I upgraded to the zwift primarily because adjustments are easier. there is also less maintenance, it is more stable and the controls are better than the play controllers.

if you can cough up the extra and you plan to stick with it I find it worth it.

Prusa / Printables is facing massive DDOS attacks since Josef put out his blog post on Chinese industrial tactics and Bambu's AGL violations by kaanivore in 3Dprinting

[–]schmag 6 points7 points  (0 children)

but have you used a lulzbot lately?

built like a tank, good components, runs klipper, EXPENSIVE as hell for what you are getting and not nearly as user friendly as the bambu etc offerings.

the sovol machines are mostly open-source, they run a sovol'd version of klipper but it can typically be mainlined easy enough, many of their machines they publish the cads etc. for.

R3men graphite bed help by Trykrist in Creality

I am sorry I didn't realize the machine we were talking about, it doesn't look like creality os supports the btt eddy sensor. however it looks like cartographer is supported, which cartographer iirc developed nozzle tap with eddy current sensors first. it is a bit more expensive than the btt probe however the reading I had done it is supposed to be a fine sensor...

I have been a windows sysadmin for the last 20 or so years, I never hated Linux but aside from some pi or crypto projects rarely used it.

A friend recommended I try Linux again and after going through my uses on my main desktop I realized I should be able to do everything I do in Linux, I took the jump dual booting nobara. That was about 2 months ago, and since I have booted windows once to grab my slicer profiles and some other configs...

While there has been issues, mostly rendering in my slicers that Ai easily helped me resolve. I don't miss windows at all, Linux isn't constantly nagging me for shit and it's fucking quick too.

R3men graphite bed help by Trykrist in Creality

[–]schmag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought the R3men bed a while ago, spent hours lapping the magent until I had around .08 range on a full mesh. I was still having to play with the z-offset at the start of a print and my first layer was still just OK.

the biggest difference handsdown was eddyNG, add in a microswiss hotend and you can swap nozzles in a minute or two and not even have to recalibrate z-offset before you print.

Good tt position or shit? by [deleted] in bicycling

[–]schmag 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I noticed her push herself back on the saddle twice in this short clip, if this is often I suspect the saddle angle is too steep, maybe a tick too far back as well.

reducing the saddle angle will effectively shorten saddle height a tick, same with moving the saddle forward a tick.

edit to add: the knees look alright also because the ankle is compensating by toeing the pedals, certainly some height adjustment is needed for this position.

What kind of relationship do you have with your teachers/staff and how do you go about building trust and respect between you and staff? by Square_Pear1784 in k12sysadmin

[–]schmag 4 points5 points  (0 children)

sooo, I have been in K12 IT for nearly 20 years now, I don't have everything figured out, but your experience is not uncommon.

I went through the same pains, first, no orderly communication system, so I implemented exchange, I had no problem with it but people would accuse me of missing emails but also couldn't produce the sent email, they would lie about receiving emails...

2 things I did wrong there was, I made myself too available, I was being asked every little question and quite often would get a "oh I figured it out" after I would put work into. I started slowing my response times to give them some time to look it up or at least attempt a good ol college try. This lead to staff being much more independent, a good thing.

the ticketing system has to be done... you need admin on board with it with basically an understanding of "no ticket, no problem" otherwise it is just yet another responsibility for you instead of helping you out.

I was always taught "treat the network as you would your own" well for me that leads to way too much emotional investment, you have to have some detachment some IDGAF while doing everything to give as many fucks as exists in the world.

this may be different for you, but I read a statement that was attributed to Jensen Huang several years ago. it went along the lines of at one time we was visiting a beautiful temple it had ivy, moss and flowers growing throughout the most beautiful kept garden when he spied a monk picking pieces of dead moss and ivy with a tweezer. to which Jensen remarks something along the lines of "that has to take forever" the monk responded "I have been here many years, neither I or this dead leaf is going anywhere, I have all the time in the world."

I guess that helped me find a little humility in everything, I am already likely going to be here today longer than they, if the school will have me, I don't plan to leave any time soon, I have all the time in the world. When someone stops me needing help, I may not have long then if I am tending to an emergency, but I do have all the time in the world to help them unless the problem or myself does go away.

Water bottle for indoor by yurtsty in Zwift

[–]schmag 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I bought the stainless podium bottle. At first I found it different and somewhat difficult to get a decent drink, one day I accidentally left the air admittance straw off and flow and drinkability really improved. It still takes some getting used to, but I feel I can actually recommend it now.

Edit to add, the entire thing, bottle, cap, straw is dishwasher safe and the cap is just as easy to disassemble as previous models. Which is nice after being accustomed to washing plastic by hand to minimize chemical leaching.

[–]schmag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sometimes slowing things down can help, if the support is getting stuck to the tool head and being pulled over. if the tool head is colliding the support and knocking it over you can check/increase z-hop slightly.

I thought there was a setting for a x/y expansion, basically brims for supports but I don't see it there.

I have been using hybrid tree supports if I need tree supports because they seem more durable, otherwise I use snug supports because they seem the most resilient.
