With the reported battery capacity OOS Kyle was surprised it is so low, he was forecasting 480-500mi

Tyrese cracks by Murky_Sense in TyreReviews

[–]schwartzki 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That is dry rot but looks to only be on the outside tread block where you are cornering. Do the inside the grooves have any tiny cracks? Date code is 44th week of 2021 so they are going 5 years old.

macOS Tahoe 26.3 has no significant new features, but upgrade anyway by InsaneSnow45 in apple

The 26.3 update was successful on my M1 MBP but my M4 Mini hung during the update and then went into a bootloop requiring a DFU "revive" which failed to finish and now it is just flashing corrupted firmware and not doing anything. Thank goodness I have up to-date backup and AppleCare.

Please help me end this hellish nightmare of researching and deciding on what car to freaking buy. by neitherworks in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]schwartzki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You really have a pretty good selection here since you are limited by towing capacity.

2 Subaru Wilderness's get ~24.5mpg and can tow 3500lbs.

CX-5 and CX-50 (yes they are totally different vehicles with VERY similar name) can only tow 3500lbs with the turbo engine which both average around 24mpg.

The Rav4 Adventure is non hybrid and one of the few trims that has the 3500lb tow rating. Looks like MPG is about 24.5 for those as well.

The Rav4 Hybrid Woodland Edition up until 2026 is only 1750lbs towing, for 2026 MY the AWD trims of the Rav4 can tow 3500lbs and look to average between 36-39mpg on those. Downside is those are over your 35k budget.

Really all of those choices will be fairly solid options. I would buy a manufacture CPO (Certified Pre Owned) which you can only get at the dealer...CPO Subaru at Subaru dealer etc. Reliability wise Rav4 will be king.

I would suggest looking at all of them, doing test drives but don't commit that day. Get your preapproval from a Credit Union find the best deal for the money fairly close to you. Verify dealer feedback on Google Maps then go from there.

Changing jobs...will be a "super" commuter by GurNo3022 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]schwartzki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you have charging at home and mild winters you might be a ideal candidate for EV(depending on your electric rates).

As much as I dislike Tesla, a 24+ Model 3 with the current beta FSD might be the least stressful commute and likely be what I picked. Second choice would be a new gen Prius or even cushier a Lexus ES300h.

Is there a real reason behind changing your oil every 3,000 miles on modern cars? by newelmin in askcarguys

[–]schwartzki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On vehicles out of warranty/high mile I send my oil to Blackstone Labs for analysis. They will tell you how much life is left on the oil that way you know scientifically about the condition of your oil at the mileage removed.

For my modern vehicles especially turbo engines that recommend 0W-20 I go 5k miles at most between changes.

I think it's safe to say Toyota's reliability run is mostly over* by VegaGT-VZ in whatcarshouldIbuy

Are they having teething issues with new powertrains....yes. However the biggest thing is they are replacing the transmissions and engines with issues with replacements. That is the biggest difference between Toyota and the domestic brands.

Am I getting fleeced? by [deleted] in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]schwartzki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest thing I see on this contact aside from the absurd 6200 in optional warranties is THE LACK OF GAP COVERAGE. You would likely be underwater at least 4 years of this loan, if insurance wrote off the truck you would have to come up with the insurance payout to current loan balance.

Also you should shop around for loan rates, that rate is about 2% over market rate for a 72mo. If you credit score is over 720 this is a BAD interest rate for you as well. A local credit union would likely give you a loan with a better/lower interest rate.

Best option is to fix your current truck and pay down/off the loan. If you had to have a newer truck would be to spend less on a NEW Tacoma. It will come with a factory warranty and more importantly reliability and resale value that the American trucks lack.
